Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

That’s Loch Louise, isn’t it?
That reminds me of the movie Silver Streak, which I saw while I was an undergrad in Edmonton.
Clearly, much of it was shot in western Canada and provided some unintended entertainment. For example, Calgary was passed off as Kansas City. When a shot of “KC” was shown, the Calgary Tower stuck out like a sore thumb and the audience roared with laughter.
Later in the movie, there’s a high-speed police chase and many of us who were familiar with Edmonton’s geography recognized a specific landmark: the north end of the High Level Bridge. Because of how that part of the structure was built, the road divides and each lane goes around it on its respective side.
No, no. This is Loch Louise.
Scotland is the new Canada……or is that Canada is the new Scotland ?
The view is Loch Moraine near Louise. Photo is taken from the large pile of rocks that lies at the foot of the lake. It’s the scene that used to appear on the $20 bill many years back.
If that’s Scotland, I’m William Wallace.
It’s almost as if there isn’t any their, there …
Scrolling down a bit on Paul Fairie’s Twitter, you’ll see how Edinburgh Castle was obviously copied from the Calgary Mewata Armouries design. So obvious. Scottish wankers.

My daughters have posted many photos of them in Scotland. I had no idea they’d travelled so far some afternoons.
also, Calgary has a monument to the failed Scot revolutionary Wallace too, just north of 17th Ave. SE and Deerfoot.
… waiting for the purple mayor to announce that it’s another bit of his recent art projects.
If you look carefully you can see Louisie’s tail poking out of the Loch.
I was looking for men in skirts.
Ah, Morraine Lake and the Valley of the Ten Peaks — I’ve hiked it many a time . . . without even leaving Alberta! Funny that.
“Scotland is the new Canada”
Given the latest attempt by “progressives” to erase the name Macdonald from our heritage and institutions, perhaps it ought to be.
Some one must have missed the caption under the photo:
“Canada also featured in the Rough Guide list. Pictured is Moraine Lake in the country’s Banff National Park”

Is this payback for the time Travel Alberta used an English beach in its promotions?
Though nothing seems to be certain any more, I believe the caption you refer to was added later….. after much ridicule. Face saving, etc.
The school of journalism will immediately be adding a Google Earth course requirement to the first year schedule possibly bumping popular classes like Poignant Spirit Cooking with Babs and Big Al’s Making Science Business Less Boring and More Funny…
…the english never cared for scotland, it’s as far away
and foreign as canada!
Hardly even worth conquering Scotland.
they’re submissive actually, like something out of Craigslist.
😉
A seriously, if Your metric is the most godforsaken place on earth then perhaps Scotland is number one. But the boroughs of Glasgow and Edinburgh aren’t beautiful to most eyes.
That is Lock Coruisk and the Cullin Ridge on the Isle of Skye

The tv series Fargo (not the movie) is set in a few communities in Minnesota as well as Fargo,ND, but is shot in Calgary. Its pretty hilarious to see the towering skylines of St. Cloud and Duluth, Minnesota.
There are a lot of beautiful places all over North America. For Scotland, a Scottish friend recommended Trainspotting. Pay attention to the scene with the “The worst toilet in Scotland.”
I have been there and I was never in Scotland.
