  1. “A cartel is a group of like-minded producers, who act in concert – or collusion – to achieve a shared goal of increasing their profits by means of restricting supply, fixing prices, or destroying their completion by illegal means. ”
Oh hell, it’s oil he’s talking about. For a minute I thought he was investigating Canada’s supply-managed sectors.

  2. OPEC is a cartel of governments each trying to look out for their own country’s interest.
Our supply-managed sectors aren’t quite the same. That’s our government looking out for not the country’s interest, but betraying their duty to look out for the interests of many citizens in favour of the interests of a few. From our point of view I think you’ll agree that’s worse than OPEC, which doesn’t owe us anything.

  3. When you talk about oil pricing there is the Marc Rich price and the post Marc Rich….When Marc Rich died the cartel had a hole. Bill Clinton pardoned Marc Rich, but he was unable to master commodity trading

  4. I don’t put a ton of faith in the opeds from oilprice.com.
OPEC has been to the brink before and has been a very ragged cartel more than once. It’s interesting that the author overlooks the loss of price control in the late eighties.
I suspect it will limp on for quite some time yet – losing market strength all along the way. But they will still meet and still be able to impact pricing to some degree.

  5. the Canadian governments are only looking out for themselves. they will screw over the citizens and tax energy until we bleed. definitely no one in Canada is looking out for Canadians.
