   I’ve never built or bought close to a lake, river, downstream of a dam, low point in the neighborhood, busy traffic, whatever. why people are agape at the ‘scenic beauty’ unawares they are gonna BECOME part of the ‘scenic booty’ is a function of the edjukashun cystem that has NEVER promoted *individual* thinking and strenuous examination of orthodoxy.

   Up north here in Notley’s Alberta…we have just started down that same old tired road…The Road that leads to nowhere worthwhile…as has Canada on the whole. Those of us that actually got a decent education, got a trade or are in the building things professions are far and few now and for the most part when we speak up around Millenials and Gen ‘X”rs…its like looking into the blank stare of Deer in the headlights – full of virtue signaling, diversity, and quick to berate anyone of us as racists – bigoted – old angry white men and so on…I just don’t bother anymore, its like trying to explain something to a door post.
   We should NEVER have let Public Service UNIONS Organize and Certify – it was the beginning of our dive into Marxism…if you think about it, it all stems from that. First Academia and then onto new Teachers and Media types….to where we are today
   Time to stock up on 7.62mm and clean my SKS…clearly the time is coming it will be of great use.

6. ALL of the NATURAL disasters can be summarily removed from the list as they are ALL easily canceled-out by the INCREDIBLE weather and shear VARIETY of eco-systems: Beach to Alpine that Californians get to enjoy. And the Fukishima fallout washing ashore is just nonsense.
   But every other manmade catastrophe is reason-enough to FLEE this Socialist economy. And Brown has been using smoke and mirrors to FALSELY proclaim CA is fiscally solvent. As soon as Gov. Global Warming leaves office … the economic REALITY is going to hit the fan … again … just like the FRAUD Obama … being GONE from office when all of the NASTY provisions of Obamakkare kicked-in.
   Socialists make massive $$$$$ messes … promising and handing-out buckets of $$$$$ … then LEAVE someone else to clean up their MESS. Usually the ADULTS in the room … like all us conservatives.

7. at the rate that “modern” buildings become obsolete and get replaced by newer better buildings, especially in the areas you don’t like, puts stupid to your post. Just down the road a house was sold for 1.2 mil, on 35 acres of spectacular view. It was bought 3 years ago , and is being completely RE & RE’d, that’s how this sort of thing goes, and so it does in much of SC
   And in 1980, just as Ronny R was starting I was offered job to help fix some of the “cliff” problems, soooooo, RR’s Term had very little, if anything to do with those problems. Now git a grip dummy

10. Californication is indeed a problem EVERYWHERE. At first it was JUST Oregon that was infected … then Seattle … now it’s a scourge everywhere.

11. Historybuff – geologists rarely get a look-in when it comes to this type of planning. Which is why geology students get several classes in “dumb things engineers have done” – from building a dam in the “mountains that move” (Italy) to putting subdivisions in on flood plains (everywhere) or even approving dwellings really close to a cliff from which rocks tumble at odd intervals (don’t remember where that particular example was located). Even the Trans Canada Highway through the Roger’s Pass is built on the wrong side of the valley; it should have been built on the south side where the rocks were sloping into the hill and, thus, would not tend to shed snow (and rocks) down onto the road. Where the road is built, the stratigraphy encourages slides of both rocks and snow.
