  1. Just so you know, I have never set foot in Russia and neither of my parents are ethnic Russian, so there’s really no reward in immature name-calling.
As a kid, I was called a fing DP. One of my bosses once called me a f’kng Russia. I forgave them all.
All I know is that tribal mythology can be a dangerous thing, especially concerning a kneejerk reaction by a Canadian cabinet minister about her verifiably true bit of family history that surfaced in Poland two months ago.
Her grandfather did not throw what he did on a bonfire. Otherwise, how would her retired U of Alberta history professor uncle have been able to write in detail grandpas role as editor of anto-Semitic newspaper in Krakow, Poland?
There were many non-Germans from many European tribal groups who were convinced to join Waffen units on the promise they could be free of the Soviet yoke. Tempting and admirable choice, but they all ended up on the wrong side of history and many of those who survived ended up in Canada.
Not much any of us can do to Chang what happened more than 70 years ago.
A former Canadian vet I spoke with today knew a 92-year old man who died earlier this week. His friend fought in the German army and was a POW at Wainwright. He was treated so well that he decided to come back and live out his days in Canada.

  2. Freeland is a liar and thank you for the history lesson one and all.
    Really amazing read.

  3. Whether you’re russian by blood or just a russian fellator makes no difference. You continue drawing the false distinction between soviet union and russia. You continue dismissing the sins of centuries of russian imperial past and present. You continue presenting NATO expansion as aggression towards russia, ignoring that all who join do so with an overwhelming popular support and out of fear of russia. You keep dismissing these wholly justified fears and concerns of russia’s neighbours, indeed you wouldn’t raise an eyebrow if the siberian horde expanded its influence further, into Baltics, Poland, Romania, Georgia etc. You’d always find justification, you have a track record of that. As I have said, you’re a vile demagogue and if you are not russian you are also a traitor to your people.

  4. Not sure what went wrong with this thread? I thought it was about our Minister of Foreign Affairs covering up the fact that her grandfather was a Nazi collaborator. That is the issue here. Chrystia Freedland deliberately lied about her grandpa’s complicity with the Nazis. Nobody is suggesting that she is a Nazi sympathizer although she may be.
We have a foreign affairs minister who is banned from entering one of the most important countries on the planet? One that we have jurisdictional issues with and could crush us militarily. Our negotiator can’t even go to Russia? How in the hell could she properly represent Canada being in a position like that? She needs to be immediately removed and replaced.
Freeland doesn’t have the temperament to be a cabinet minister representing Canadian interest. Her performance on the trade file was pathetic. Foreign affairs is an even bigger portfolio. Get her out of there. She has zero credibility.

  5. Even though many Germans did not agree with why their country went to war, they still served honourably for Germany.
Those who did disagreed with the Fuhrer did not put on an Allied uniform, then go slaughter other people in another German provinces.
Tell me, o wise one, what justification was there for young Ukrainian boys whose argument was against the Soviet Union, to put on German uniforms and slaughter 2 million innocent Belarussians? Those people were not ethnic Russian. They were similarily opressed by the Soviet state.
Would you be OK with Quebec, who has articulated their desire of independence from Canada, to put on a foreign country’s uniform and go slaughter a large portion of the New Brunswick population?
Many here do not like Trudeau. Many then, including my parents, did not like Stalin. But that’s no justification to go kill human beings who were living in the same political construct (country would be too narrow) as you. Maybe it is. Neither you or I lived during those time.
It’s one thing to hate and kill an opposition tribe, in this case Russians. But what kind of hero are you when you kill members of another tribe that had nothing to do with the Russian tribe (Belarussians)? Is it because that tribe had the indecency to have somebody identify them with the word Russian in their description.
Koni? WTF exactly does that mean. Vile demagogue? Nope. Just trying to shine a light on historical facts. Name-calling may make you believe you’ve won the factual argument, but in fact if that’s all you have it proves you’ve lost the argument.
All sides do terrible things during a time of war. That time of war was 70 years ago. Let it go, if for no other reason than for your own peace of mind.
Today’s Russia may well be over-reacting in banning Freeland, attributing to her the sins of her grandfather. But Russia knows those hostilities about what happened 70 years ago still exist. All they’d have to do is look at the way you see things.

  6. “Even though many Germans did not agree….”
Oh shut up already, Russians loved their tyrants, still love them and they loved and still love invading their neighbours; they will accept any humiliation from their tyrants and will eagerly lick the tyrant’s boot for the mere promise to subjugate others.
“Tell me, o wise one, what justification was there for young Ukrainian…”
Straw man argument remains a straw man argument no matter how many times you repeat it.
“Koni? WTF exactly does that mean. “
Not the fastest bunny in the forest, are you? I let you ponder that some more. Hint sometimes spelled Konni. Go sniff Pootin’s crotch maybe the realization will come.
    “Vile demagogue? Nope.”
Yes absolutely. Explained why several times already, you jumped over it and go back to murdered Belarusians by Ukrainians.
“But Russia knows those hostilities about what happened 70 years ago still exist. All they’d have to do is look at the way you see things.”
You mean when russia together with Germany started WWII? When in the first two years they invaded and brutalized six countries (some of them the same countries they are threatening today)? You mean when they were Hitler’s most loyal ally? When they kept sending supplies of raw materials and grain west up to the last minute before the panzers rolled east? Or is that part of history to be ignored? It is not russia that has a reason to fear others. Others have every reason to fear and hate russia. And hate russians too, the ordinary average on the street russians that love Pootin today just like they loved Stalin before or Catherine the whore, or every other tyrant they had before. The ordinary on the street russians that supported the rape of Georgia and Ukraine and would love to see more.

  7. First Japan goes to war against China, Italy invades Eritrea and Ethiopia, Hitler helps Franco win the Spanish civil war, Germany retakes Alsace, annexes Czechoslovakia and Austria (they were quite happy after all Hitler was one of them), Germany then Russia invade Poland, Germany invades Denmark, Norway, the low countries and France and starts bombing England, then invades Russia and the Japanese attack the US at Pearl Harbor and most of the other countries in South-east Asia. So Trudeau’s reason for being a Zombie – “I won’t fight in a war for British Imperialsim.”

  8. “Germany then Russia invade Poland, Germany invades Denmark, Norway, the low countries and France and starts bombing England… ”
… meanwhile russaia invades Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Romania. There FTFY.

  9. I knew that I’d be forgetting some fighting somewhere. Ivan got a bloodied badly at first in Finland. Once Germans invaded Russia, Finland recaptured all their lost territory. More British Imperialism is Trudeau’s view!
