1. 20 years ago my common Samsung smartphone (no longer on Telus) would have been a dream at $20K. 10 years from now this designer phone will be an exquisite paperweight valued according to how much the gold weighs.
   Anybody with a smartphone today is wealthier than anyone a hundred years ago.

2. Every smartphone is a custom tooling job for the factory, where economies of scale are king. Most of that $20,000 price tag is just due to the low manufacturing volume.
