h/t @jfgroves – “We elected a Prime Minister who literally believes the only legitimate system of voting is the one that elects him”
Ha, so it’s all Harper’s fault.
I give the Lil’ Turd full points for consistency.
Not surprising when you think about it. That phrase he used “our Canada” reflects the Liberals’ view that they are the owners and therefore everything in the country, including the people, are property that they are entitled to do with as they please.
Told yah.
Just another Libtard mouthing of empty words.
The potential political repercussions of changing our voting system, especially with their Iranian front person, are just too scary for the backroom boys.
Besides mission accomplished, Shiny Pony is PM.
The Hair Apparent rules.
Democracy with one party to vote for. That’s the goal.
That’s what he says – it wouldn’t be advantageous to the Liberals is what means !
But that nasty Harper that nobody liked got a higher percentage of the popular vote in 2011 than Turdeau got in 2015.
Yes, but the other half or third of the progressive left, the NDP, still wants it as they could bolster the progressives enough to shut out conservatives forever.
And it might allow for a quiet pullback of the current minister pushing the agenda…
I don’t think Conservatives should be breaking out the champagne glasses just yet. Liberals are obviously doing this because it’s in their own self-interest. Power is everything. Those “little changes” could have higher impact than you’d think. Mandatory voting means forcing young and uninterested people to vote – key demographic for progressives. Although it could also be a great opening for far right and far left populists to shit disturb and create support via emotional voters. Online voting would be a perfect scenario for fraud and hacking.
Reform or no reform, Liberals will still seek to manipulate the vote in their favor. It’ll backfire and makes things worse for everyone, as usual. Unintended consequences, etc. created by people who only expect things to play out like the pleasant dream scenario in their head. The world needs cynics to be more prominent.
Well Justine, I have the government I do not like but I like your electoral reform even less. So yeah on this point we agree, see you’re like a broken clock, truly useless but not always wrong.
Well duh. Even Pony can read the polls. His approval rating is somewhere in the 60s, and the Libs are in the 40s or so. They don’t need any electoral reform given those numbers. Those numbers put them in easy reelection win territory, possibly with an even larger majority.
The appetite is just not there for his brand of change. at least someone in the liberal party is smart enough to realize that.
We know which country Spud admires the most. We also know what form of government it has.
Let’s not forget that many former communist countries used to have the word “democratic” in their names, so that should tell us what Prime Minister Potato Head has in mind for us.
So when do we each get a copy of his portrait to hang in our homes just like what happened in China and the old Soviet Union?
Here’s what he’ll focus on.
Justine’s machine.

Right after he got elected he went on a spree handing money out like mad. I think in the 5 billion region. Is the thinking that this was like the sponsorship deal and the libs got a pile of money back in donations to help their bank balance after the expense of an election?
Trudeau is wrong about more people being satisfied with government. He got a smaller percentage the popular vote than Harper did in the last election. Conservatives and New Dems are not happy, BUT their dissatisfaction doesn’t seem to merit media coverage in the same way as when Liberals were unhappy. Having said that, I don’t want the system changed — and most certainly not without a referendum. Trudeau does not have a mandate to do this.
Just an arrogant prick mouthing his divisive talking points… “now that I’m in power everything is cool”… Just makes me wonder what plan Soros has for keeping the lispy dipshit and his Butts in power. Lispy J does have the Media to campaign and run PR for him, thats all it took to get the idiot elected last time and Canadians love being taxed into the poor house so Lispy J seems to have the “winning formula”, just gotta keep the unionistas and the mafia happy and voila another majority. Wonder when the Libranos are gonna reward the Iranian, the one that doesn’t know who she is.
I doubt Trudeau is telling the truth with his statement.
I think he’s doing this to take the heat off the current Minister that appears to not be legally in Canada.
I agree. He can’t be trusted on any issue.
Back in the 90’s I remember Conservatives being angry that Chretien kept winning false majorities because of all the vote splitting. “The system needs reforming!” was what I kept hearing in conservative circles.
Once Harper and MacKay brought the parties together the pressure was off. A united Conservative Party is at an advantage in our current system.
Justin would be smart to change the system to preferrential ballot. 1st choice, 2nd choice etc. until someone hits 50% of the popular vote. Liberals are a lot of people’s favourite second choice. I know I’d take a Liberal over a New Democrat any day of the week.
What’s happening here is that Justin is drinking his own bathwater. He doesn’t want to expend political capital fighting what meagre political opposition he has to face over this issue.
Why?
Because he thinks he’s got it in the bag. When Gord Downie said he looked forward to Justin Trudeau being Prime Minister for 12 years and a thousand people roared with approval…Justin Trudeau smiled and agreed. He believes his own hype and he’s surrounded by sychophants and agreeable handlers.
Most of the Liberals agree. They know the media is on their side and they think they can do no wrong.
As a result, they’ll probably capitulate on this issue and by the time the NDP and Conservatives have official leaders in place and Canadians have more Liberal scandals to sour them with…it’ll be too late to change the system. Our moribund economy is likely to get worse for a variety of reasons and the debt is going to explode more than it already has.
Pierre Trudeau barely won re-election in 1972 (if not for a right-wing vote split PC/Social Credit he probably would’ve lost)
Justin Trudeau is being set up for the same type of fall.
Just watch him!
Liberals might be a popular second choice in the current configuration. Non-progressives would of course want other choices. Another right of centre or libertarian type party would be certainly be created to fill that void.
You mean PM Hair-Boy couldn’t make a go of it?
And, no, I don’t believe the majority of Canadians are satisfied with Pierre’s boy or backers.
Trudeau is bad but his supporters are worse.
Remind them of how awful they are whenever you can.
Maybe they’re starting to realize that they can’t get away with not having a referendum?
Those of us of a certain age well recall Pierre Elliot Trudeau’s close relationship with a number of world leaders who led what were called, in the Newspeak of the time, “guided democracies”, one-party states with stage-managed elections. Liberals have a tradition to maintain.
Perhaps he should have said “now that the media is happy with the government”. That is certainly what accounts for current Liberal popularity. People have not been told to think otherwise, so isn’t everything just peachy.
The Spud has changed his mind…again. Funny how he was against so many of the Harper government policies and now is adopting them. He knows the Liberals wouldn’t ever have supreme power with a majority again either. He and his cabal have wakened up to that fact, it’s not looking so inviting, His friend Lizzy May was salivating at the possibility…she’s SOL on that one.
I really struggle to take anything the Prime Minister says to heart. There has been so much flip flopping on his campaign promises that it’s like listening to nails on a chalkboard now…
It’s tough to take anything this guy says seriously.
