Remember that Crystia Freeland was one of Trudeau’s star candidates, considered a real catch: Rhodes Scholar, journalist with a profile on US tv, knew something about economic systems. Now that we’ve had a chance to see her, it turns out that she’s an ideologue on economics, she comes off as a naive fool in front of the camera (with a shrill voice to boot — am I allowed to say that?), and lacks a basic grasp of logic. I suppose we shouldn’t expect the media to call out one of their own, but even they’ll only be able to take so much.
Unlike Freeland and Trudeau Maher has approached this issue using some logic. He is going to learn quickly about trying to use logical reasoning with a progressive and where it will take you. I will be very surprised to see him remain on the teevee.
Freeland, since coming into the spotlight about two years ago has clearly, and always been a naive shrill, ideological twit.

As arrogant and condescending as Chrystia Freeland may be, she can point to a record of achievement outside politics of some sort. So can everyone else in Trudeau’s cabinet–except Trudeau.
Yet they wouldn’t be where they are politically without his charm and timing, and behind the public facade of party unity and cabinet solidarity is a galling resentment of that sad fact. Not only do they all think they can do his job better, but all of them also arguably could.
His only real hold is the power to fire them at any time for any cause, good, bad, or no. The moment he is successfully challenged on a matter of importance, even that hold will be weakened.
If Trudeau cannot man up and take charge of his own cabinet, his own cabinet will simply run itself and sideline him as a figurehead necessary to sign the papers and win the votes they themselves cannot, while they take over the rest of his responsibilities.
So we will have Trudeau’s promised “Cabinet government,” without Trudeau actually governing it.
Liberals constantly use straw man arguments because they know in their heart of hearts they can’t really criticize what their opponents are saying and straw man arguments are the only ones they can win. Maher is perfectly correct in what he’s saying and there are many muslims who agree with him e.g. Irshad Manji.
The idea that all cultures are equal is absurd on its face. If all cultures were equal they would be virtually indistinguishable and would produce virtually identical outcomes according to whatever metric one were to chose e.g. size of families, scholastic achievement, income, levels of crime and violence. The very fact that any “root causes” would have to be addressed at all is, in itself, strong evidence that all cultures plainly are not equal. Cultures are, for all intents and purposes, behavioural tools which allow humans to optimize their position in whichever environment they find themselves. The culture optimally suited to success and fulfilment in a modern industrial society is ill-suited to success in an atavistic hunter-gatherer society, or desert nomadic environment and vice versa. My ancestors had a cultural tradition of raiding coastal settlements killing the men, plundering and burning the town, and carrying off the women and children to be used or sold into slavery. At some point they changed — a good thing for all concerned.
I just spoke with a Lib voter who lives in Toronto about this clip. She has never heard of Chystia Freehand….

We have probably the worst crop of Cabinet Ministers and Prime Minister we’ve had in memory at the worst possible time.

If you look at the c.v. of a lot of the younger cabinet ministers or ministers of state the women especially seem to used as stepping stones participation in some activist environmental group. So, by definition either stupid or with blinkers on.
Chrystia was out of her depth. She came off as being thick. Bet she won’t accept too many more invitations to do the Maher show. She is in over her head as a cabinet minister.
There were a coupla press photos circulating around this week from the Prime Minister’s tour. Chrystia was hugging Bongo in one of them – she was beaming. Her excitement was obvious. In another – looked like a morning meeting she was sitting beside Bongo – same pose. Musta had a good evening…..

Conspicuously absent from the new cabinet was Anthony Rota, recently re-elected in my riding, Nipissing Temiscaming. He had MP experience ( lost his seat to the CPC in 2011) was once considered a candidate for leadership of the Libs. a very intelligent man, well respected by all in our area.
IMHO opinion Trudeau did not want him too close. Trudeau (with direction from Butts and others) has surrounded himself with a team that does not shine any brighter than him. (or doesn’t make him look any dummer?)

In the abstract, our parliamentary system works best if there are strong Cabinet ministers and if MPs are more than just show-up-and-say-yes flunkeys.
