  1. Actually it’s 3 caskets… one for the wife as well. The whole thing doesn’t make sense… the boat capsized on the way from Turkey to Greece, how far did they get? If they got into the sea (Aegean or Mediterranean) then how did they find all the bodies so quickly? If progress was so minuscule that all the bodies were immediately recovered (and in pretty decent shape from what I’ve seen of drowning victims), how did the boat capsize in pretty stable coastal waters? How come the father couldn’t at least save one child while saving himself. I’m not sure if there are any search and rescue experts on here but does this whole scene make sense to anyone?

    Whats surprising there is that refugee children are like GOLD in any European or North American country. The welfare payments go up exponentially for each one.
    I couldn’t imagine any Third World migrants especially Islamic migrants passing up those force multipliers.
    Maybe the kids weren’t his, just say’n we’d need a DNA test.

  6. The Canadian Family was asked for 14K intended for his teeth, and a third party was involved in the money transfers. Was that third party the UN.. a lot of money for teeth.. Everything is wrong.

  7. Also, shouldn’t there be blowback for the NDP MP that swore up and down that they ‘hand delivered’ the Kurdi’s file to the immigration minister himself? Were they lying or was it such a minor routine thing that they didn’t even realize that the file was for the older brother? Why isn’t the media hounding Fin Donnelly about this? btw, you really don’t have to answer that question, we all know why.

Of course, the media don’t wish to embarrass Mulcair or Donnelly so they’ll just let it blow over and anyone with the obvious shortage of ethics that Donnelly has displayed probably won’t be bothered in the least by criticism of his actions. Besides, there might be some new Mike Duffy developments to follow and embellish.

Why would someone stay in a crappy place when they could go to Europe or Canada, or any western nation, and get free benefits beyond anything they would receive in their home country.

  40. Nicola, I neglected to save a link, but one of the news article wrote that this family were some sort of Christian Orthodox, the name of which I had never heard of, and it was not the Chaldean Christian.

  42. An abortion is some one making a personal choice, I rather doubt that any one made a personal choice in the drowning. I though the religious wack-jobs had found a new hobby and that dragging abortion and gay issues into every discussion had subsided, guess I was wrong!!!

  43. CKNW hosts were particularly egregious today. One saying that despite both reports – the refugee application and the offer of citizenship – being ‘erroneous’, that they had damaged the Conservative election campaign. And this from a guy who writes a column in the Province newspaper, as well as occasional host for that once quality radio station.
    No mention of damage to journalism. Nothing about the basics of fact checking, cross referencing sources or even calling the sister of the surviving father for confirmation. Nope, just parrot the report as received. Then they have the temerity to counsel us against ‘believing everything you hear on the internet’ ala’ the campaign by JournalISm as sponsored by Canada’s largest union, Unifor.
    The afternoon host took care to define ‘refugee’ as those fleeing political persecution and threat of deadly violence. She said that in her estimation, this family qualified as refugee. Hmmm. Nothing about the fact they were already in another country and no longer in danger of political persecution or violence, but unwilling to remain there. They admittedly were on their way to Europe in order to better their economic potential.
    Can’t blame the family for that, but they knowingly and willingly put their children into a highly dangerous situation. To say they are refugees rather than economic migrants is just beyond stupidity. I thought our media betters had all graduated from journalism school where they were taught to ask probing questions and get the facts.

    To report on this story would only serve the interests of the CPC and it is not our job to serve any of the parties. We have a duty and responsibility to our loyal audience to be objective and impartial and to project such. We are professional journalists and will not take sides in this election, especially if it were to disadvantage either of the two opposition parties. Bias is always to be avoided in our industry.

  50. We do not, nor have we ever, acted as shills for the Libs or the NDP. This has been a claim made and perpetuated by some that is simply not supported by both the facts and our quality reporting. We do not have a bias and, in fact, we reflect the public in terms of the breakdown of the numbers on election night. For example, in the 2011 federal election, the CPC received approx. 40% of the pupular vote from Canadians. Our members — specifically those who comprise the PPG, who are also voting Canadians it should be noted — voted for the CPC with approx 40% of the vote as well, proving definatively once and for all that any claims of a bias we harbor baseless and without foundation.
    You will disagree of course and probably provide me with a list of journalists who you suspect do not for the the CPC. Unfortunately, I cannot provide you with the list of the 40% who do for reasons of confidentiality.
