    ISIS militants have beheaded an 82-year-old archaeologist who had been in charge of overseeing the ancient site at Palmyra in Syria, a government official said Tuesday.
    Syrian state antiquities chief Maamoun Abdulkarim told Reuters that the family of Khaled Asaad had informed Abdulkarim that Asaad had been beheaded earlier in the day and his body hanged from a column in the town’s main square.
    Asaad’s death was also reported by the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The Observatory, which has a network of activists on the ground in Syria, said dozens of people gathered to witness the killing.
    Abdulkarim said that Asaad had been held and interrogated by members of the terror group for over a month before his death. The official said that Asaad’s captors had been looking for information about where the town’s treasures had been hidden to save them from ISIS, but they had no success getting the information from the scholar.
    ISIS seized Palmyra, whose Roman-era ruins attracted thousands of tourists prior to Syria’s civil war, from government forces in May. In the days and weeks before the city fell, Syrian officials said they had moved hundreds of statues out of concern that they would be destroyed by ISIS fighters.

    Lots of crap about corporate social responsibility and caring for creation (celebrating earth day), but nary a word of protest about the massacres of fellow Christians and other innocents. I suspect I’d find the same silence on the United Church’s site.

    Isis would be destroyed it would be an all out war for a few months until every nook and cranny was checked and every last memeber of isis was destroyed. How ever i just dont think it’s possible unless you simply declare war on islam and call it a holy war then you could really make some changes.

  20. Thanks Joel and JJM: The problem isn’t that the pope isn’t weighing in. It’s that the MSM won’t report it unless the pope’s weighing in on global warming. From another issue: this pope has said lots about upholding traditional Roman Catholic teaching on marriage and the family (ie, he’s no fan of same sex marriage). But what’s the quote the MSM keeps lifting up? The “Who am I to judge” comment — and at that they usually quote out of context so it sounds like he’s saying something rather different from what he actually said. The chair of St. Peter is most certainly not empty.

    You Damn right they are. Sick of this group of elitists left right and centre spending decades at the teat only to pass the torch on to friend,family,ect ect.
    If i was able too i would fire every single person in current gov in usa right now Every one , senators,house reps,allchiefsof this and that every single person every single one …then re hire GOWDY,CRUZ,WEST,PALIN, and start there i would go to the country side and do interviews with farmers, Iwould go to inner city homeless shelters and talk to the people who run it, i would let allen west pick and choose his military command, ect ect . then i would make a rule that no one who is related to in anyway going back at least 2-3 generation is allowed to run for office and or hold office for more than x amount of time. The scotus would be made up of conservative pastors that have imecable histories no contravercy at all.
    Anyway i cant remeber how it goes but this is all cyclical.i cant remeber how it goes but democracy cannot and will not last. it just won’t

    Cal2, I hope that you are right, but we will see after October 19 here in Canada. I know the MSM tries to brainwash us into thinking that Harper is going to lose, but as we saw in Alberta the Canadian population has been brainwashed enough to think that commie lites are a viable option. Canadians are not yet fed up enough with the Laurentian Elite grip on the scepter.
