Coddled millennial law student William Desmond, on coddled millennial law students;
Speaking as one of those law students, I can say that this response is misguided: Our request for exam extensions is not being made from a position of weakness, but rather from one of strength and critical awareness.
Although over the last few weeks many law students have experienced moments of total despair, minutes of inconsolable tears and hours of utter confusion, many of these same students have also spent days in action–days of protesting, of organizing meetings, of drafting emails and letters, and of starting conversations long overdue. We have been synthesizing decades of police interactions, dissecting problems centuries old, and exposing the hypocrisy of silence.

I am reading this thinking, OMG. What an idiot. Rather than “over the last few weeks many law students have experienced moments of total despair, minutes of inconsolable tears and hours of utter confusion, many of these same students have also spent days in action—days of protesting, of organizing meetings, of drafting emails and letters,”, why weren’t these budding lawyers reviewing the evidence to see if the evidence presented supported the finding or if there was mis- or mal-feasance.
We are so, so screwed.
Of course, my second thought is, they are in law school. That is what they are doing. If they chose a course of action other than studying, then they deserve the consequences.
Boy, anyone would be lucky to have that guy as an attorney. He will serve his clients well, once he gets his white privilege stuff straightened out.
You don’t suppose the moments of total despair were occasioned by the realization that the time they wasted emoting over worthless thugs could have been better spent studying?
Yeah, I didn’t think so, either.
Deadlines are racist.
can you say moron, i can’t stop laughing
No mention of the 109 police officers killed in 2014 . No trauma there I guess, but a couple of black thugs eliminated and suddenly law students can’t cope. They always warned us about too much estrogen winding up in the drinking water. Or maybe there are no real men or women left in the urban education system. No role models left in the urban culture. Swamped with pajama boys and the female equivalent. It’s like the entire gay culture’s gone out of control and infected all urban centers. In hindsight, …. it has.
Then we send the kids to some leftists run schools to be brainwashed into being obediant servants for Big Brother
My father had to transit through Nazi Germany to take his law exam in France, having come from an area liberated from the Axis a few months earlier. Taking that exam in that location was the only way he could become a lawyer, and he did it.
This kid is a punk and a douchebag.
Hey peterj; I just returned from a drive along several paved roads in southern Ontario. Nothing but potholes normally only seen in the rural roads when they have reached their “best before” spring stage of road repair. However the Ontario educated legal whizzes have come developed a new system.
Now a sign is put in place reading; “Rural Road Access”. So rather than repave the roads the new approach appears to be let the decades of upgrade to at least a “High-Float” road repair disappear. The intent is to revert to the old spreading of calcium on the unlooked after areas which runs into the road ditches then on to drainage ditches and into the Great Lakes.
Anyone can point to the Librano Insider people in rural areas, they have solar panels providing personal income subsidies. We will watch their Rural Roads being re-paved because there needs to be a Provincial Librano Government access to this special places.
“We have been synthesizing decades of police interactions, dissecting problems centuries old, and exposing the hypocrisy of silence…”
He means they’ve been screwing around instead of studying, and now the exams are going to frig up their GPAs so they won’t get the juicy jobs and internships at huge firms they were counting on to pay off their massive, gigantic hugenormous student loans. So now they’re all sh1tting bricks.
Just have to translate from the Leftspeak, then it makes perfect sense.
Amen. Just Amen
“and of starting conversations long overdue.”
Here is the conversation that is long overdue.
America does not need more lawyers, and professional protestors don’t have to spend several hundred thousand dollars going to law school.
Over to you, Skippy.
“…many of these same students have also spent days in action–days of protesting, of organizing meetings, of drafting emails and letters, and of starting conversations long overdue.”
In other words, they decided this was more important than studying. Which is their prerogative. But if you want to call the tune you’ve got to pay the piper.
Maybe it’s the overall prospect of graduating and then facing the real possibility of working at Walmart or McDonald’s while facing a $100,000 debt that’s behind the reluctance to write exams. The comfort and safety of the nest before being turfed out, so to speak. Any excuse to delay before facing the real world. Any port in a storm. Just tossing it out there. Or maybe it’s all part of the new, enlightened, politically correct weenie generation. Pick one.

A>”Or maybe it’s all part of the new, enlightened, politically correct weenie generation. Pick one.”
B>”…many of these same students have also spent days in action–days of protesting, of organizing meetings, of drafting emails and letters, and of starting conversations long overdue.”*
Option ‘B’ is the road that Barack Obama took to become an Illinois state senator, then U.S. senator, then POTUS. Just tossing it out there.
*of course his melanin content was an essential ingredient
Yup, he’s certainly a role model, and what a role model he is. A sad symbol of what the nation considers to be a real man. And the first lady ? I wont even go there.
“I have seen the psychological trauma brought on by disillusionment with our justice system send some law students into a period of depression. After all, every death of an unarmed youth at the hands of law enforcement is a tragedy.”
The younger generation has become a bunch of goddamned sissies!
Allah almighty! I grew up working with a group of WW2 veterans and Great Depression survivors, one thing I always admired about them was their toughness, emotionally and physically, and how, no matter what crisis came up, they simply determined how to deal with it.
These metrosexual f***ing pansies that seem to have taken over nauseate me with their pretense of “caring” about every episode that makes the nightly news, yet are so totally self-centered when it counts.
If these law students are so bloody traumatized by an event that didn’t affect them in any way, they should go make one of those ubiquitous “memorials” near their campus pub,so cynics can pi** on it after tanking up.
“But I don’t want any of that … I’d rather just sing!”
“… metrosexual f***ing pansies …”
About a year ago my wife and I went to an East Indian restaurant in Ottawa. Four young adults came along – 2 males, 2 females – and sat at the next table. I’d be hard-pressed to recall ever listening to a more sickening conversation. They were law students from the U of O. Not an ounce of testosterone at that table. Pathetic.
” …many law students have experienced moments of total despair, minutes of inconsolable tears…”
If those useful idiots only knew that they are crying for something no more real than the tooth fairy.
there is NO epidemy of white cops shooting blacks as the main stream media pretends there is and the left pretends there is, NO!!!
but there is a serious epidemy of black crime, in large cities they commit up to 90% of violent crimes.
and over 90% of blacks die at the hands of other blacks
where are the protests for that???
well said Don, and in the nodick (Nordic) countries it’s even worst. We could be heading down that road if the infidel slayers don’t have their way first. I see this male pussy st1t just about every day and I don’t live in urbanville. Pathetic and sad at the same time, were will it end?
“We have been synthesizing decades of police interactions…”
Establishing a new nadir in gobbledygook English more likely.
The grandiosity and verbosity are absolutely stunning.
Here’s a dose of critical awareness: In life, you choose your priorities. William Desmond decided that his education came second to his emailing and starting overdue conversations.
I AM a lawyer. And there are lots of worthy projects I’d love to work on instead of prepping for trials or meeting with clients. Guess what? I’m a big girl and realize that if I’m self-indulgent, I’ll be disbarred. Consequences flow from your choices. This is mind-bogglingly basic stuff for most adults – even Millennial lawyers like me.
Calling John Houseman! Calling John Houseman!
Or should I say Professor Kingsfield!
I can see it now… The defence attorney, after the opening argument by the prosecutor, tearfully asks the Judge for a recess of several days. The Defence argument is that the terrible things that Prosecution has alleged are so horrible that the Defence Team must take time to gather it’s strength and to organize a community consensus in order to properly respond to the opening statement.
I pray, with all my soul, that I never have to rely on someone like this to represent me.
“…I’m a big girl and realize that if I’m self-indulgent, I’ll be disbarred…”
Holy mackererl! Was I ever wrong.
Here I was, thinking all along that self-indulgence got you a “yes, yer honour” title.
Hmm… no wonder I’m still on contract!!! Maybe I should join the Libs so I can practice my bullshittese…
I wonder if Desmond realizes that no serious person or firm would ever hire him after reading that hilarious garbage.
“…Maybe I should join the Libs…”
Oh, c’mon now. Pretending that lawyers aren’t Liberals.
That’s not nice – trying to fool us twice in one night.
As someone studying to be a professional, they should realise they do not have peers in the ranks of professionals. That article was the worst indictment of kindergarten I have yet to see. They used their nap time for something other than napping, they don’t get a do over.
Law students? Exams? Hmmmm….One would think that if they’re about to write exams they should know about law and rules of evidence. And one would think they’d use all that learning to examine said evidence and reach the obvious conclusion – the grand juries were right.
Seems apparent to me that all that schooling didn’t sink in.
And remember, America. Those are your future judges…
If you don’t want to live lke that, you better prepare to get stuck in.
