ALison’s SkyPalace not alone….
The Sask Party has been doing a pretty fair job of running the province up to this point. Although, in all honesty, they did not have a tough act to follow since the NDP administrations were nothing more than sh*t shows.
I for one am not about to condemn Premier Wall for this fiasco since his administration’s missteps have been few and far between. I don’t think that this government has a hope of falling into a huge pit of stupid where the socialists languished for years.
Paper pushers need to be pampered don’t you know
because, well just because.
Wall is high on his own press and polls. This government reminds me of the Devine government around 1988, but with less desperation and creeps.
with a clear-eyed assessment, I think the Sask Party won at a time when Saskatchewan was turning around anyway. Commodity boom and business friendly faces were the basics of Saskatchewan’s resurgence. As I have heard from others…What’s the Sask Party actually done other than “not be the NDP”? I know for many, not being the NDP is enough…but Cam Broten is a massive threat. The guy is targeting the right problems, (senior care, health care) and they’ve now had enough time in the wilderness to start the grassroots re-build.
Wall will surely win a reduced third majority, but the Sask Party needs a second wind. They’re getting lazy and fat.

i guess that’s a glimpse of the future.
a buddy of mine was at a government run facility and on a visit to the washroom he was suddenly swamped by a mob who bumrushed the sinks and proceeded to wash their feet and (he claimed) genitals. don’t know if that’s a particular sect.
he was pretty freaked out by the whole thing. the thing is, these guys aren’t shy. and if they keep on having seven kids to the average canadian’s 1.2… you best get used to the idea of living in the new caliphate.

The solution is, as it has been for centuries, a Social Contract to break the vested interest of religious elite. This will take adjusting the immigration process to acceptance of Canadian culture as it stands.
In turn with the fear of destitution in old age diminished and the ability for sex without imminent fear of pregnancy will reduce the need for total domination of women by cultural norms. The aging of the children of the oppressed will loosen the continuing generational domination.
However reducing the pressure for cultural separation of immigrants is the starting place.
Saskpower has always been a fiefdom unto itself, insular and secure. When a free-enterprise premier Ross Thatcher came to power in 1964 one of his first moves was to fire Saskpower head David Cass-Beggs. David Cass-Beggs had overseen the construction of Saskpower’s head office in Regina, an oppulent curved structure that was wildly extravagant for its day.
What, no cots for napping during Ramadan?
Sharia Law, a few years ago when I raised the issue of Sharia Law being imposed in Saskatchewan. He, a Saskatchewan M.L.A. assured me that would never happen here.
There are a growing number of instances of Sharia Law being imposed in violation of Saskatchewan and Canadian Law.
Having Saskatchewan government institutions submit to Sharia Law indicates infiltration by the Muslim Brotherhood. It’s not an “accident” it’s part of strategy.
They’re attracted here due to the “boom”.
If they can worm their way into parts of the RCMP, they can worm their way into anywhere.
The Saskatchewan Legislature needs to formally reject Sharia Law and affirm that only Canadian law will be recognized here. Which means a public discussion of what Sharia Law is needed and quickly.
This is a bit of pickle – on the one hand the government is ultimately responsible for SaskPower as it is for any crown, but SaskPower is a crown corporation and any meddling by a government of the day will bring down more wrath by the NDP.
Having said that I think SaskPower and many crowns have not been telling the truth about a lot of things and have been running a little close to the line in what they share with even their political masters. But again, how far in does any government of the day want to get into micromanaging the affairs of a crown.
Clearly there has to be a better way for governments to do their job at an arms length in overseeing the crowns, but getting the crowns to be more up front in what they heck they are doing.
You are absolutely right Larry but your proposals are politically toxic and therefore won’t be instituted.
The genie is out of the bottle; the toothpaste’s outa the tube; the train has left the station.
There are big vote blocks in dem thair foot basins.
its very simple.
put the footwash station at the front entrance , can be used as a boot wash to take off the Saskatchewan gumbo or salt when you come in the front door. everyone can be happy. everyone.
Yes, would be great peace of mind knowing that my hog farming boots are clean.
Maureen, I agree, especially since there does not seem to be any plans of reducing the number of crowns. Although there appears to be some movement toward private medical clinics and private alcohol outlets.
Manitoba and Alberta both privatized the telephone utilities.
I have often wondered whether the bird wackers being put up in various places are solely Sask Power’s idea or is this government behind this?
ao515 asked, ‘What’s the Sask Party actually done other than “not be the NDP”?’
Good question, as in social issues the party is just as PC as the NDP were.
I support the party but socially it is a liberal party.
Exactly why government oversight is as important as ever through the vigilance of the citizenry. I prefer to starve the beast, or better yet freeze all funding levels and wages till inflation does the reductions for us.
Brad Wall is ndp lite. He doesn’t have the will to tackle any of the 80 or so ‘crowns’ for fear of the unions.
Every few years Sask power finds itself in some trouble and the CEO has to take the high jump. The boot mark squarely in the back of the CEO is always that of the premier of the time. A soft landing though is usually the norm.
and when these people, bureaukraps, gov’t employees (elected officials), and the electorate themselves, understand they are accountable to the electorate maybe they will open the “books” to the electorate. I know that isn’t all that popular with some in here, butt……………………
Brad Wall doesn’t fear the power of the unions more than he fears the voters. The Saskatchewan electorate isn’t conservative. When the economy has been strong for long enough to be taken for granted by the majority they’ll vote for whoever promises to turn this place into another Ontario.
I think you meant to write “another Ontarible”.
What’s wrong with a foot wash? Didn’t we used to call them bidets? Very continental you know.
Well, Sask Party is Lib and PC combination after all. Thoughts are that Lib Faction is in charge, excepting balanced budget mantra.
Governance, accountability, no one at fault, simple fact. Errors always some outside factor.
NDP causing waves, health, education, crowns etc. By and large, system they put in place, essentially, no accountability. Boards, false empowerment (perceived not actual),in essence insulation from chaos and criticism, the goal. Witness SGI, new spokesfolk for justice, policing, insurance, safety etc, etc.
Deal the taxpayer and public have proper expectation, we pay, you agree to provide equitably, province wide.
They rose from rural dissatisfaction and urban distrust of NDP. NDP came out of Liberal and PC mistrust.
Sask Party will unfortunately suffer same fate if they don’t treat all areas of Sask equitably. Be accountable.
Taking seats and ridings for granted is first step in the demise of any party and Gov.
Today, no one’s fault, no MLA, board or Minister in charge. The Phoenix Party will appear, Sask Party will have trouble.
Don’t know if you’ve noticed but the Tommy pic over your bed is gathering quite a bit of dust.
“Cam Broten is a massive threat”
It’s easy to talk the talk when one is sitting on the opposition side of the legislature. In order to clean up health care and senior care, a confrontation with the big unions is inevitable. Broten will never go there. As with any socialist, his answer will be to throw more money at the problem. And where does any good socialist come up with more money? We all know the answer to that one.
