Free Lorrie Steeves!

The Black Rod;

Gord Steeves has suddenly been propelled into being the frontrunner in Winnipeg’s mayoral race. And it’s not for something he said or did. He can thank his wife for the push.
What? What are you talking about? The MSM says his campaign is finished because of a four-year-old Facebook post by his wife complaining about being harrassed by “drunk native guys.”
Hardly.
Because EVERYBODY KNOWS IT’S TRUE!
[…]
The news media discovered through the various methods of instant feedback (Twitter, Internet comments, Facebook) that there was little sympathy for the drunk native guys in the story.
CBC, for example, had 311 comments on their Steeves story, ten-to-one in his favour, before they closed off comments.

  1. The local Winnipeg media instantly branded Lorrie Steeves’ comments “racist” even though her post merely describes the blunt reality of what too many Winnipegers face whenever they head downtown. Incidents like these are why I tread in that part of town only when I really, really have to. Race has nothing to do with it. I’d avoid the downtown if I were accosted by drunken white guys too.

  2. I had previously left a comment when this thread first appeared last week. I will elaborate – my sister worked for Manitoba museums in the 1980’s. They would regularly see “interesting” vignettes outside of their windows with the piece d’resistance being a drunk aboriginal man having sex with a woman -in broad daylight on a very public street. My sister was kind and suggested that she was perhaps his wife but that it was just a little TMI and therefore, windows were studiously avoided from thereon in.

  3. Gee, people don’t like being sworn at and the risk of getting thrown up upon? Who woulda thunk?

  4. Wetaskiwin used to have a problem with drunk natives coming from Hobbema, now they are coming from Maskwacis. Same old Wetaskiwin for decades and no fix yet.

  5. Perhaps it should be explained that Hobbema was renamed Maskwacis. Apparently renaming a festering shithole will solve all the social problems.

  6. Gotta love the Black Rod. Interesting that CBC closed off their comments, no? Do they do that with their Rob Ford stories or Mike Duffy stories?

  7. “Steeves has suddenly been propelled into being the frontrunner”
    I do so hope this is accurate. For so many reasons, not the least of which is that someone needs to push aside Judy Wash-a-load-of-laundry for the good of the city.

  8. tell-it-like-it-is……..
    the truth never hurt anybody
    you can’t handle the truth

  9. Yeah, this reminds me of a “Young Turks” video about a Lt Col teaching at a US Army staff college, advising that a “Hiroshima Solution” may be the only resolution to Islamic aggression. They muttered long and hard about how inappropriate and shocking it is that this professor has not been dismissed….
    The comments backed the forthright professor firmly….
    It seems the media party is more than a bit outa touch with public sentiment.

  10. That is sorta the joke.
    I said to my wife when the name change became official, Hobbema no longer had any crime problems.

  11. Curiously enough, Hobbema is Maskwacis according to the signs on Hwy. 2, but it is still Hobbema if you travel Hwy. 21. Guess there must be no “beautiful people” traveling Hwy. 21.

  12. It’s good that Lorrie Steeves is now Free. Was it very expensive before? We don’t get those southern craft beers out here in the hinterlands.

  13. Way to go CBC for finally bringing truth to your reporting. I also enjoy your marketing approach change, through continually advertising your documentaries on Fox News.
    Recognizing the thoughtful viewers, who enjoy the information provided in Documentaries, watch Fox News for unbiased reporting on American happenings. This as a safe approach which will not cannibalize your usual viewers as they “will never watch Fox News”. Cheers;
