Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Geez… this guy looks like he has one foot in the grave.
A glaring error in there; people on the unemployment and welfare rolls don’t stimulate the consumer economy. Also there is a half-truth; the Rand Formula states that no-one can be forced to join a union in a union shop but they have to pay union dues regardless of whether they join the union or not.
I got to the minute and a half mark before I started to bring back up my coffee. First the cops and now the press are striking out at the PCs. You have to wonder about the mindset of the entitlement electorate of Ontario. Yesterday I heard an attack ad from the lieberals about how way back when Tim Hudak actually met Mikey Harris, a name that is supposed to send shivers down our spines. Yet, Whynnie the Poo will say, often in the same breath, sorry about all those scandals but that was way back when Premier Dad was running things. Oh, and it was also the federal Conservatives fault.
Lord help us.
A real shit face that is, I’d have no trouble spitting on it. It’s bastards like that who will kill the province, we’re already on the verge of going over the cliff. Where these blockheads think the money is going to come from is in the realm unreality.
Paging Ezra Levant.
I’m a resident of Ontario, and I have to say, Tim Hudak is a moron. This election was easily winnable with all of the baggage the Liberals are carrying. His platform should have been:
1. no more increases in spending until the budget is balanced.
2. no job cuts, but any and all job vacancies will be considered for attrition.
3. 10% pay cut and %25 office budget cut for all MPP’s.
That’s it, that’s all. Had he gone with that, he’d be above 50% polling right now.
pete, you are 100% right.
Interesting how they post this using the medium that’s killing their industry. Wonder if they purchased any print ads anywhere.
How do you think the shrinking of the civil service by 100,000 is going to happen. It defintiely is not by firing 100,000 people. A reasonable chunk is retirement.
On the budget. He has said balanced within 2 years. Isnt that actually better.
So it sounds like your concerned he is too radical for the province. He tried the Liberal lite approach last time and lost a VERY winnable election. This time he will win question is minority or majority.
There was polling 2 years ago that said Ontarions were actually open to bad news as long as it was delivered in a straightforward manner. I believe that insight is still operative and you see it reflected in the ads.
Is Hudak the ideal leader, wasnt my choice, but thats not the question. Cons are nervous because they believe the line that at this time nobody will vote for a Con message. I think for this election that is about to be proven wrong.
If they had run this campaign last time they probably would have won.
The conditions here are very strange. The numbers point to minority, even Liberal minority. The Liberal vote is definitely demoralized, they know its time, Wynne blew the debate. She may recover some nervous nellies by scaring people on Hudak but there is a concerted effort to GOTV. You may very well be surprised, it comes down to vote splits, in my opinion this is either like Harris’ first win or its like the Bobby Rae election. One way or another there will be a result that is not like what the latest polls are showing.
Well at least they’ve come out and said it. The press is the enemy of conservatives we all know that but these guys have declared it as clear as day. They say there’s no bias but they’ve just declared their bias out in the open. Hudak should never answer a question from a journo again. There’s zero point in doing so.
“over the cliff. Where these blockheads think the money is going to come from is in the realm unreality”
They will get it from the same place Quebec has been getting their largess … From the much more productive private sector in WESTERN CANADA.
The vote buying feds will see to that.
The PC PARTY of Ontario AKA the stupid party, should have dumped ‘who dat’ from the leadership long ago … He is damaged goods.
The man to watch in the Ontario PC party now is Vic Fedeli. He will be the next leader and he is very smart. However, by then it may too late …
THAT’S VIC FEDELI … Write it down.
whodat should NEVER have been elected leader in the first place, nor should J Tory have been. It just shows that the P Cons are about the same as liberals. They try putting their version of acceptable to the ppl, rather than address the ppl’s version of acceptable. Both Tory anfd WhoDat may be nice ppl, just not smart leaders.
Watching this pumpkin head talk, I feel better about Hudak already. He’ll still lose, but at least I’ll feeeel better that his heart was in the right place.
What these union morons just can’t get through their fat heads is that the cow they are milking is DYING. Jobs and whole industries are fleeing Ontario because of the Ontario Government, plain and simple. I don’t see how anybody is going to pay this pumpkin head’s inflated salary when we all cut each other’s grass and paint each other’s houses for a living. Or sell each other imported goods from China.
Greeks and Italians have been doing business under the table in cash since 1945 to escape corruption and crushing taxes. To the point where their entire government structures have been 100% funded by borrowed money since the creation of Europe. Old Grandpa Luigi the paving guy walks around with $10k in his pocket because HE HAS TO, not because he wants to be an ethnic caricature.
The same thing WILL happen here, and d@mn soon too. When it costs $1,000 to have an electrician move a wall plug, because the electrician charges $100 an hour because he’s licensed, and the city charges $500 for the permit, and the engineer charges $400 for the engineered drawing of the wall plug you wanted moved, wall plugs will be moved secretly. And badly! They will be moved by people who don’t know what they’re doing, and they will do it -wrong-. A lot.
Then buildings will start burning down.
Coming soon to a city near you. Like, next year kinda soon.
A union guy who does not know what it is like to have job insecurity. What do you expect. He want to keep his cushy sinecure.
But he was wasting his time: the biggest spokesman for ‘Not the PC party’ is Tim Hudak. Clearly a genius of incompetence. Either that or he is secretly working for the Liberal party.
There can be no other explanation.
Normally the PCs should be at least 10 points ahead in the poles, competing as they are against a crowd of scoundrels that used $1 billion to buy votes in Ontario ($1 billion would buy an MRI machine for almost every hospital in the province).
But what does Tim – the man with the charisma of a three day old ham sandwich – do? He announces, not that he is going to balance the budget or that he is going to get some fiscal responsibility into Ontario. No, none of that complicated stuff.
The first thing he does is announce he is going to lay off thousands of workers. A sure vote getter in Ontario.
Having lived in Ontario for twenty years I am convinced that they are making politicians dumber and more corrupt than they used to. There can be no other explanation.
Truly Hudak is the dumbest; Wynne is the slimiest and McGuinty is the most crooked.
I guess we get what we deserve.
He forgets most of those unionized workers are government employees.
The unions were always going to do this, no matter what Hudak said or did.
Pete those three things you mention are all opposed by the unions.
Laughable ad. We’re not partisan because we’re telling you who NOT to vote for. Apparently poor shmucks without pension plans or inflated wages should continue to pay higher prices for goods and services, and crushing taxes and energy costs so the unions can enjoy their privileged lifestyle.
Two fallacies stand out in this election: Apparently Kathleen Wynne was not at the cabinet table or election trail or anywhere else when the myriad of disastrous decisions were made by this Liberal Party of Toronto (LPT)government. Second, Hudak will FIRE 100,000 civil servants, rather than let them retire, for instance. That’s right, thrown out in the streets, forced to subsist on their indexed pension plans.
The truth is Wynne was present, supportive and closely involved in all her government’s decisions from their ridiculous green policy to their possibly criminal behaviour in the gas plant scandal. As for Hudak’s cuts, reducing 20,000 civil servants each of the next five years is chicken feed notwithstanding the union fantasy retiring workers must ALL be replaced.
The ground is clear right now, as it was in the last US election. Vote for or against rising cost and intrusiveness of government with their union and watermelon buddies driving policies, doling out your hard earned dollars to their rent seeking supporters.
The truly scary part is Toronto voters could, again, push them over the top. I don’t think so, no matter what the latest EKOS/Graves push poll says. God help Ontario if that isn’t the case. God help Canada too – a decisive LPT win sets the stage also for a 2015 Obama clone tour from JT.
Not at all. The unions are showing who really runs the province and a Conservative government has to take democracy and liberty from their grasping hands. We need a Wisconsin moment, and this is the fear driving the Unions to hysterical levels. I hope it backfires, it is so overt.
If Hudak actually pulls this off (not likely), AND gets a majority, his first piece of legislation should be a blanket ban on all political involvement by all public service union organizations, just as exists for their members. They are not arms-length from their membership and their fortunes are seed by taxpayer’s dollars, and I’m saying this as a shop steward in a public sector union.
Won’t shut drones like this guy up, unfortunately. Something for consideration, is to ban ANY political advertising or messaging from ANY organization. Voting is a democratic process – one man, one vote. Let INDIVIDUALS do the talking, not shadow organizations and corporations.
He might be above 50%… considering the bang up job pollsters have done in recent elections.
Big problem is the Unions will be able to get almost 100% of their membership out to vote, and that’s a lot of political muscle.
This ad is only a minor part of the program being advanced by shop stewards all over the Province right now, at every Union meeting, every lunch and coffee break. They will whip their members into a rage, propelled by fear of losing their fat cat status.
I’ve been there, seen it in action,Union members will believe the world is about to end if Hudak wins.
Hudak must have the worst advisers in political history, no pol in his right mind would state that he is going to CUT jobs, any type of jobs, but Hudak DID!
Haven’t Conservatives learned anything from “Da Little Guy from etc”, who told us what we wanted to hear, won every election, then did what he wanted?
The naivety of the Hudak campaign is SO discouraging, but we’re supposed to believe these people can turn the Ontario economy around!
Wynne is going to win, maybe a minority and a coalition with the NDP, as Horwath said was okay with her, but it looks like Hudak and the PC’s have as much chance to win this as the Leafs have of winning the Stanley Cup this season.
The sad reality for Ontario, is the onslaught of anti-PC ads from various rent seekers could have been largely avoided if Hudak hadn’t been so damn stupid out of the gate. Practically the first thing he said publicly was he was going to kill 100K jobs. Never should have said that – should have focused on his million job plan (again, an unrealistic number in people’s minds – would have been better with 500K or 750K, and gloat if he actually scored a million). His 100K public sector jobs negatively impacts 500,000 people. People don’t believe he’s smart enough to fix Ontario’s problems, and they’re probably right. I’ll be really happy to eat these words, but I don’t think so.
Look at BC. The polls were useless, was all about the swing ridings.
Funnier yet, it’s blockheads like the guy in this video that order and pay for the polling during the election. The polls couldn’t be anymore biased than the media is.
Where will the blockheads get the money? They will borrow more of it, in Euro bonds, like they did before, and that huge sucking sound you hear? Those are the tax dollars being sucked out of the average Joe and Jane’s pockets and into those of the bond lenders – the richest people on the planet.
That’s right, Ontario is floating Euro bonds – it did so in early May, and was so thrilled, it plans to float billions more.
Compounding interest used to be taught in school, while teachers were still required to have some math skills.
Another sad milestone reached in the ever more corrupt province of Ontario. First the OPP come out and publicly pick political sides, now virtually all the “journalists” in the province. All these union leaches are scared to death that they might have to sacrifice even the tiniest bit of money or benefits for the greater good of the province. They’ve been hand-fed by the Liberals for so many years now, that their numbers are huge enough to substantially sway elections. And if the conservatives lose this one, the next one will be that much harder because now the Liberals will have to reward all those unions that helped them retain power.
As much as people want to think this election should have been a cakewalk for Hudak, I beg to differ. He is fighting a HUGE union machine, province-wide that has unbelievable money and influence – a public service union representing 1.2 million people, the huge teachers union, the OPP union, and now the journalists union, just to name the bigger ones. And they have no limits on the amount of money they can spend, or the resources they can use in their quest to bring him down. And as someone else pointed out, Hudak tried the Lite approach last election and got hammered. So many conservatives came out afterwards and said he should have just been straight up with a real conservative approach. So this is what he’s doing this time. Badmouthing the only guy in this election that has a hope of stopping this province’s bankruptcy, and getting this province back to something more than the union controlled, economic basketcase that it’s become in the last 10 years is really not helpful at this point. Liking him should come a very distant second to wanting to save Ontario. Stop bellyaching and vote conservative.
I am somewhat puzzled by this perception that a leader has to have “charisma” in order to lead.By the same token, if they think Hudak is bad what do they think of Wynne? She comes across as someone who couldn’t lead a one politician run to a two hole outhouse. She thinks saying sorry about your one point one billion dollars will magically make everything better.
Every second TV commercial here in Toronto is an election add.
I get a phone call every night from one of the three parties.
My computer seems to always have Comrade Wynne in the sidebar somehow.
Where does all the money come from?
He’s about as objective as a vulture in a slaughter house. What a piece of lying crap this guy is.
This from a person who’s organizations force every one to pay the Union tax.
For that is what it is. Its not their for the workers but the Unions political agendas, which of course is Marxism.
It fill pockets with the sweat of others labour. These Union mandarins live next door to the Politicians in gated communities. Go to the same private schools & clubs. They wouldn’t know what beer is, only champagne for them.I almost vomited seeing him pretend to look like an average guy. Most union heads I’ve meet wear Italian silk suites
Rather funny since Slotek was (still is?) a writer for the Tranna Sun.
Wtf is this Toronto chick talking about?
You are absolutely correct. It’s a much bigger fight against the big red machine and it’s many co-conspirators.
Wynne, the Liberals and the unions really have no scruples. Apparently what’s mine is theirs.
Sigh…..
And does anyone know who is behind this Project Ontario?
This guy is a spokesman for the thugs who racketeer for the cheerleaders of ponzi-statism (deferred reality). He carries as much moral suasion as a common thief.
Tim Hudak attracts much criticism. To the victor of politics (and war) go the spoils. Such a “winner” in Ontario will inherit massive debt, economic stasis, green theocracy, a militantly entrenched unionized public sector akin to spoiled infants, and culturally widespread presupposition of a continued progressive disposition from whomever “wins”. Any “conservative victory” would likely reflect a minority of the popular vote. Who but someone with questionable character aberrations would sign up for the task. I won’t criticize him but Hudak must be a masochist.
Ontario’s (Canada’s) terminal decline into serfdom will only be arrested if or when reality smacks the electorate squarely in the pocketbook or the kitchen table and a popular majority cries out for a return to reason.
Count your fingers? Oooh, such hazardous conditions typing away all day long.
The only way Mr. Michelin Man is going to lose his fingers is if someone kicks him in the a$$.
SKIP..How utterly refrreshing to hread your comments. I could not agree more.
No organization should be allowed to make ads, contirubute monies to any political organization.
PERIOD..This should be a Federal Law applicable to any Election beit Municipal, Provincial or Fedeal.
Ontario is Screwed…the minute you get more than 50% of the populace involved in unions, you are essentially hooped. And Hooped Ontario surely is.
As a potential investor looking for a jurisdiction within which to set up a business – that Province is the last place in Canada I would look to. Where is the incentive..??
High business taxes
Extremely high and climbing energy costs
a Workforce that will dwindle due to: HIGH Taxes, HIgh Energy costs and basically tired of being boned up the (_i_) by successive governments due to ever increasing and new levels of taxation.
Nope.
I recall quite clearly the costs while on a 3 yr contract there: 2008-2010 (Barrie)
Land transfer tax of 1.3% (on the sale price of your home) thank you very much.
Property taxes of $400+/month,
Vehicle insurance costs of $430+/month (a truck and a Corolla)
(Complete and utter Morons working at Ontario’s version of a Registry btw)
Home insurance of ~$600/Year
HST on freaking EVERYTHING…everything.!!
Exo Tax
An annual BS emissions test that a 1962 Rambler could pass at $29.95 per vehicle per year.
Smart meters that are smart alright…for the utility.
Electricity prices on the rise.
Rental Water Heaters…huh.??
…and wages that barely rose 1% per year…while paying $29.95 for a 12 of beer from some useless Unionized mule at a Govt Beer store.
Ater 3 yrs of that crap and reading Parker Gallants excellent series titled “Ontario’s Power Trip” I saw the writing on the wall. It cost me $75,000 all told…but I do not regret leaving that sorry mess 1 iota. It was a blessing in disguise.!
If Wynne gets in again…Ontario = Detroit. A DEAD Province.
A word to you Mr Harper. Dont even think about bailing that disgusting nest of Unionized useless ***** with Western Cash. We may well end up saying “up yours and go it alone”.
The Republic of Western Canada..works for me quite nicely Sir.
no joke.
Loved the Doctor Evil air quotations.
What can you say to this guy? He’s getting lots of free stuff for little output and see’s it as winning.
A country thats 100% Union would be, well, like the Soviet Union, and that didn’t work out so well for most people living through it.
“There is a point where objectivity and reality collide.”
ummmmmm …… HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!
I hope Wynne destroys Hudak. We could use a big influx of decent, hardworking, skilled labour here in Saskatchewan.
You can’t compare the BC campaign with the Ontario. Christy Clark is a very attractive cheerleader, and a first rate campaigner.
Her political enemies kept pounding away on her lack of formal education, while she paraded about the Province charming the hell out of everyone, young and old, male and female.
She was pitted against a sour faced guy who could have played “Scrooge” in Dickens play.
Hudak is no charmer,he may be way more competent than either Wynne or Clark, but politics today is about image, and Hudak hasn’t established that.
You guys are being too harsh on Mr. Slotek. He clearly states at the beginning of his piece that his union members work in a field committed to objectivity, are loathe to engage in politics, and do not endorse candidates or contribute to political parties. Near the end of his talk, he says he has no agenda. That’s why we can be confident that what he says is true and should be accepted by all Canadians committed to fairness and good government. Only by returning premier Wynne to office can our highest values be preserved. What do we really know about this Hudak guy, anyway? His name sounds like someone who was a guard at a Nazi prison camp. Do we really want to elect someone who may have been a guard at a Nazi prison camp?
Ontarians, do your duty!
Jim’s getting hammered in the Youtube comments..
It is long past the time for unions to be taxed as corporations. If they are going to meddle in the electoral process then they should be paying for the privilege. And I won’t bother to rip his fallacious arguments apart as others seem to have that well in hand.
Most of the comments lean towards the rational.
But then you get this from Karen Cooling: “ The labour movement raises standards for all workers. Union members spend their money in the communities in which they live and this is good for the economy. Hudak is wrong and his neanderthal policies are being dis-proven all around the world. Ontario deserves better – don’t vote PC!
Gee, you’d think she was just another YouTube commenter voicing an opinion. She neglects to let to others know that she is the National Staff Representative at Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada – one of the more ideologically driven, activist unions in Canada and one representing a LOT of government workers,
It’s stealth interference in the political process.
You are right Texas Canuk. what’s this with the charisma complaint about Hudak. When McGuinty was first running, everyone I knew referred to him as Norman Bates and I thought that was a low blow to poor old Normy. Dalton never had any charisma. None. He also lied from day two in office again and again. He had bad policies and even worse corruption.
Mike Harris had more charisma than Dalton, but not much. He came across as the affable small town golf pro he was, but nothing spectacular. Harris did what he said he would do and attracted much scorn from the left.
Hudak is more like Harper; a little stiff, but has a reasonable platform. Look, nobody is perfect. Hey, even if my wife was head of the PC party I would probably have some reservations about her even though she is quite conservative. I don’t agree with her all the time! Why do conservatives always look for perfection. From talking to him, I would say he is definitely a conservative and not a CINO like John Tory. Be happy and vote.
It’s getting ugly in some of the comments..
Yeah well I don’t get around like I use’ta….declining health and a worn back tire will do that…..at least I got a new back tire.
I have occasion to take a run from here in Norwich up to Wiidstock and see lotsa Hardemen (PC) signs about and a few NDP….it’s like the LIBRANOs have conceded.
Was talkin’ with a fella, new acquaintance when he made a quip about Bush…..I didn’t get excited but simply asked “why”….what problem he had with Bush…..just a bit of stammering.
Then I asked if he had an opinion of Hudak….”not a leader”….why?…more stammering….
Opinions with no basis….other than perhaps “they say”.
Just met the guy…don’t think I’ll seek him out…
I am constantly amazed at the effectiveness of media……or is it that leftism is a health issue?
Interesting that…I noticed Wynne was getting ‘hammered’ on her Facebook page tonight…?
I just might get my hopes up.
I feel you have overlooked the craven and total morons present in the Ontario electorate. Had anyone in this province had their heads screwed on straight, McGuinty would be in prison, Wynne would be somebody’s secretary and Premier Hudak would be going about his business. Look at the anti-Hudak ads. Obscene is hardly the word for them.
The man is a shop steward.
That means he took a three day course, didn’t foul his pants every day, so he was given a title.
This is entry level on the union totem pole. His credibility must be looked at with that in mind. He is a human decoy. He was put out to see how many people are shooting.
The media union went from being important potatoes in a small pot to being small potatoes in a large pot. They are out to prove themselves. This election is a test. It is very important.
I’m not saying that the media were not questionable before the merger, heck no, a thousand times no. But today they are flexing their muscle to show that they are not to be ignored by the rest of the new family. Their dedication to the profession is diminishing as it changes to the more noble ‘looking out for each other’. There is a reason why union members call each other brother and sister. It fosters the ‘them against us’ mentality.
The media have traded their last bit of decency in an attempt to prove that they are a force to be respected. They are the ‘strikers’ of the Unifor gang.
If Wynne and her people pull off a win, Ontario will be the first domino in the new display.
” Hope you got your things together.
Hope you are quite prepared to die.
Looks like we’re in for nasty weather …
There is a bad moon on the rise.”
