Obama granted absolution in paragraph 4 of the official transcript. Military tradition includes amnesty, not absolution. The tradition of granting amnesty at an academy is reserved for a short list of visiting dignitaries. It releases cadets from punitive requirements (barracks confinement, penalty tours, etc.) associated with misdeeds. It does not erase associated demerits or the cumulative record.
The president has intentionally deified himself. I am curious to know if the penalized cadets will be marching up and down the square and confined to quarters this Friday evening. If so, that would be a true lesson on the value of this president’s word.
