If the U.S. had not won World War 2, Midway would never have existed in Japanese history. The average man of course read nothing in the papers, heard nothing on the radio, saw nothing in the newsreel. But perceptive Japanese “felt” something momentous had happened though they could not identify its cause. It’s impact, though denied in the press, shuddered through the whole imperial fabric. From that day forward events seemed to take a downward trajectory. Only after the war did the Japanese know the root of their misfortunes.

Wow. The things poli-sci students will debate years down the road. Or won’t debate because the voice of freedom will have been stifled, thanks in no small part to weak administrations like Obama’s.
I think the Obama presidency was stillborn.
“The Day Obama’s Presidency Died”
Agree with steve,
You need to be legitimate first to be a real President.
From time to time Americans show the cold courage and determination which has made the US great. One thinks of Pickett’s
Charge at Gettysburg, Cold Harbor, and many others. And the attacks of the torpedo bombers at Midway is one of them. They were
not successful but drew off Japanese defensive forces and allowing a perfect bombing attack which won the battle.
Reportedly, the Japanese thought that the Americans were degenerate has-beens. Midway showed their senior commanders
quite the opposite, and given the much greater American resources the future became a little too clear to them.
Speaking of American courage, we should never forget Tarawa, Iwo Jima, Okinawa.
Brilliant Commentary! Truth to Power. IMO Hillary was betrayed, that is why she failed to go before America and explain (which was the Job of Sec of State) sending Rice instead. A turd that has no smell!
When I read assessments like this one, I realize I have no idea what is going on out there.
Reagan used jihad to bring down the Soviet Union? Cool. Putin does the same thing to the US? Wow, those guys play for keeps.
One thing for sure, the US has a president who is so far out of his depth that pretty much anything could turn into a catastrophe once he tries to put his stamp on it.
“we should never forget Tarawa, Iwo Jima, Okinawa”
Abysmal conditions and a suicidal, well-entrenched enemy who did not consider surrender to be an option despite the hopelessness of the situation. Truly, hell on earth for those Americans that had to hit those beaches.
Yet, sadly most people today, if asked, would identify Tarawa and Iwo Jima as pitchers for the New York Yankees and Okinawa as a lake in British Columbia.
Back on topic, I think Fernandez is right; Benghazi is where the Obama Presidency died. I think he’s giving them too much credit for being deep thinkers and planners. My impression was they were always more cheap opportunists with only a vague sense of direction where they were going, but we can leave that debate for the future decades to wrangle over.
However, there’s also a domestic aspect as well. All US regimes have both a domestic and an foreign dimension. Fernandez is right that Benghazi was the death of the Obama regime’s foreign agenda. But its domestic agenda died with Obamacare and Fast and Furious. The first poisoned the well so deeply, thanks to Nancy Pelosi’s ham-fisted approach to legislation, that any new legislation became essentially impossible, particularly once the Republicans gained control of the House. And Fast and Furious demonstrated that the regime would descend into outright criminality on home turf. No one could stomach the notion of the US government trafficking guns to druglords. The IRS affair simply confirmed what Eric Holder had already demonstrated. That the current US administration is essentially a criminal enterprise.
All that was left was for Obama to weakly wave around Executive Orders. He was never going to have a single piece of legislation passed ever again by Congress. It was over; turn out the lights and lock up when you leave.
Okinawa convinced Truman that the bomb had to be used on Japan. My military history prof way back in ’72 would go ballistic every time the suggestion was made that the bomb was used to send a message to the Russians. My prof was a ‘D-Day’ vet and told us that people who promoted the ‘message’ idea were those who never saw combat. The tremendous loss of life on Okinawa simply reinforced what was experienced on Iwo Jima.
The Soviets, who knew all about dying in WW II, backed down from confrontations with Eisenhower, Kennedy and Reagan.
The problem, is it just Obama’s presidency, or the US as a whole? Can anyone recover?
I concur….
Most underestimate the credibility impact, that invoking “executive privilege” to shut down scrutiny of “Fast and Furious”…..somewhat like invoking the 5th…..that was perceived as an admission of guilt….except by the MSM…..
It is left to poli-science types to debate in the future.
Right now it falls into the realm of prediction….
Greg….
That also fails into the realm of prediction…..however OBOZO getting elected twice means we gotta a problem….
Democracy depends upon a more or less astute citizenry…..1930’s Germany, muslim nations and early 21st century USA were not suited to democracy……see the results…..Nazi’s, Hamas and Obama…….
It’s not dead if we have to wait for the twisted little creep with the daddy issues who smiles too much to finish his term.
“..however OBOZO getting elected twice means we gotta a problem…”
Well, yes. The Euro nations have been here before us to show us what its like. The proportion of the workforce shrinks, and the welfare class grows until it constitutes a large voting block all on its own. And when it does so, it starts legislating against the interests of the taxypayer, those who pay all the bills. Voting patterns in Sweden in the ’80s and ’90s showed just how difficult this can become even in a state that was culturally unified even before Islamic immigration became a problem.
Obama is a symptom of a much larger disease. And there will be more like him in the future if the pattern doesn’t change.
Wonder when they’ll understand that an Affirmative Action lackey whose prior life experience was in urban community organizing, does not make a President of the United States.
Obamba couldn’t lead Acorn effectively, much less the world’s once largest economy and military. …..and NO, bowing and sucking up to the world’s totalitarians does not make it better.
Knight99 said: “Obamba couldn’t lead Acorn effectively,…”
Sir, I must respectfully disagree. Obama’s two election campaigns were -extremely- effective, and Acorn was out there getting it done for Big Barry the whole time.
Obama’s problem is not that he can’t run a community organizing outfit. Its that the rules are different out in the big wide world. Clever Chicago ward-heeler wheeling and dealing doesn’t work, and it took him this long to notice.
His other problem is that he sees literally everything in terms of American politics. DemocRats generally seem to have no appreciation of the fact that the rest of the world actually exists. They’re all worried about how things will play in Peoria, when they should be worried if there will even be a Peoria for it to play in.
The machine which is the US government is so huge they don’t think they can break it. But they’re wrong.

It’s not like we haven’t been warned before:
Two centuries ago, a somewhat obscure Scotsman named Tytler made this profound observation: “A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy.”

Obama’s junta Will not be properly Dead until incarcerated.
“It’s impact…”
If the writer doesn’t even know basic English punctuation, why should I have any respect for the analysis?
Let’s not be too hard on Germany. Hitler was an evil genius, and astute at political manoeuvre. His
party, the NSDAP, never won more than 40% of the vote.
As for Hillary Clinton, she was subjected to the whole force of an Obamite attack, including Randi Rhodes
calling her a “f**king whore.”

I have a low opinion of HIllary Clinton but she didn’t deserve that!
…. The current US administration is essentially a criminal enterprise.
An excellent observation.

True, I suppose I was referring to the ashes of the useful idiot organization that he left behind once he was finished with them.
Not allot of thoughts on recycling, or preservation for the future to be sure.
It was that failure to adjust to reality which doomed the empire.
That is written gold. We see it every day now in the West. From the infiltration of Islam into our politics & schools. Sharia law implemented, while people walk around like zombies not caring.Even a soldiers hacked off head could not awaken the truth of Islam to politicians.Thankfully we have the web today. Good article but I think he needs to understand Obama if any thing, is Muslim friendly.
The left we have seen have drunken from the river Lethe, than created a parallel World that has no chance of being a reality, as its based on faulty assumptions of human nature.
I am in agreement with most of the comments, but one thing that’s mentioned twice galls me enough to point out that the U.S. did NOT win world war 2. They certainly WERE an important factor on the winning side.
Nof60 @ 6:36, like Rome went, so shall we.
The Syrian conflict and now the takeover of Ukraine by Russia show that the Barbarians are no longer afraid of uncle Sam.
Yes that was a very excellent read.
Just goes to show a winner, who can’t learn from his mistakes, can still be a loser.
Len;
It might irk but for all intents the Americans did win WW II. Any suggestion that the Allies could have defeated the Axis without their enormous war machine is more than a stretch. I am not suggesting that USA military forces won more battles or even fought in the largest battles. Logistics won WW II.
It has been suggested that the USA let the Russians bleed themselves out fighting the Germans and then assumed a world Manifest Destiny with no opposition. I reject that idea.
Nor, indeed, should we forget the two ex-SEALs who died in Benghazi, even after being told to stay out of the fight.
Hillary Clinton is forever dishonoured by their sacrifice. Her boss is beyond dishonour.
Well, the Americans won the war in the Pacific, and the Russians the war on the Eastern Front. The British and the
Commonwealth didn’t win the war but we sure as Hell could have lost it, in the two years it took for the
Americans and the Russians to get in.
Approximately 2/3 of all German losses took place on the Eastern Front – men, planes, artillery, tanks.
Supposedly, at one point a member of the German General Staff remarked to an intelligence chief, “You predicted that the
Russians could field 190 divisions. We have now destroyed 190 divisions. The Russians are stronger than ever.”
witchywoman, did you know that A Einstein, S Hawking, Newton, A Grahambell, the Wright brothers…and many more well know intellects had trouble with their engerish, didn’t think so. Try some thing other than trying to loft yourself above others.
You got it right, Len.
People like CT need to read the statistics on how many T-34s Russia cranked out, even still cranking them out with shiny unpainted metal exposed while the Tractor Factory in Leningrad was surrounded with Wehrmacht troops. Yes the US helped, but the greatest commodity was Russian soldiers, of which the Red Army had no shortage.

She DOES deserve that. I’m thinking that what you meant to say was you have more class than to call her that in public.
