Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Holy hell, woman. When you send someone traffic, you send someone TRAFFIC.My hosting provider thought I was being DDoSed. - Sean McCormick
"The New York Times link to me yesterday [...] generated one-fifth of the traffic I normally get from a link from Small Dead Animals." - Kathy Shaidle
"You may be a nasty right winger, but you're not nasty all the time!" - Warren Kinsella
"Go back to collecting your welfare livelihood." - Michael E. Zilkowsky
Agree 1000%,Kate. With all that EU hot air and sunshine coming out of their a**es,that thar renewable shud keep em plenty warm. And if not,why just have their wimmins throw another burghau on! And shouldn’t lesser Britain be tipping over and sinking soon anyways?
I also hope the Israeli offshore natural gas plans pan out quickly to boost Israel’s utility to Europe.
Can’t the Yer-oh-pee-ns just put up more wind mills and sunshine panels:-)))
I’m waiting for some European watermelons to be tarred, feathered and run out of town on a rail
Europe softens stance on Canada’s oil sands as relations with Russia sour
Next they won’t be calling Israel a NAZI state.
Likely though this may be the personage Europe has to treat with.
They wanted North America to be like them. They may get their wish with a war.

Well, well, well… Look who’s come crawling back.
Make. Them. Bleed.
Fair weather friends… so long as they realize the friendship’s as good as long as the cash keeps flowing.
it works both ways.
Of course we’re going to ship them oil and gas. Letting them freeze in the dark? Hardly. But we really need to bleed them for all the sanctimony over the past two decades. Now’s the time to build Northern Gateway and the eastern extension. And no one had ever best find Saudi petro-dollars or Russian rubles in 1st Nation bank accounts. They’ve taken enough payola from US ENGOs already.
Let them just build a few hundred thousand more bird blender windmills and a couple of million more land wrecking solar panels. In no time at all they will have enough energy to keep the lights on during windy days. Of course if they want to keep warm in the winter they will have to start burning those evil fossil fuels that they have whined about endlessly. It all seems like a form of poetic justice being visited on these euro-weenies.
I say get them to lift the moratorium on fur especially seal fur. For every tanker of oil they’ll have to buy 1 tonne of fur. Get the friggin’ Indians back to work…no more excuses.
They aren’t complaining too much about Canada sending its CF-18s to patrol their eastern frontier, either.
This pitch to Europe of securing a stable reliable Canadian energy supply and developing the infrastructure to do it is a brilliant political play by Harper. It opens up another potential market for our energy exports and puts more pressure on the Americans who want to keep exclusive control over our energy exports and the favourable price they get for it. Obama will be under more pressure to approve the Keystone pipeline once the Europeans embrace the oil sands.
They may even rethink their ban on seal skins. Cold weather does tend to focus the mind on the insulating quality of animal skins.
Nigeria has lots of oil.
Too soon ?
Give it a month or so. It ain’t their eco-aware kids being raped and beheaded.
We have our own fools that will weigh the benefits of employment, jobs, funded social programs etc, against the vicious slaughter of children .
They will opt to deny reality.
Won’t someone think about the(our)children, will be their cry.
But, they won’t think any further.
I have a hard time mustering sympathy for the euro trash. Their first instinct is to try and appease. The tyrant really can’t be that bad can he? They always expect the Americans to save their ass.
The euro banks are awash in stole Russian money. They took the cheap energy deals and now they ‘discover’ there are strings attached? C’mon.
We in this country have no lesson to learn from them. We learned our lesson’s between 1939 and fourty five .
When Charlemagne split his empire, between his three sons, it was a colossal mistake for mankind. The factions have been at war ever since. Fuc* the warmongering bastards.
It’s amusing how fast the AGW rhetoric settles down when cold hard reality comes along. Every barrel of oil Canada commits to the EU should come with a steaming mug of STFU.
Wow, can’t help but type all of the above.
Let the pantywaist bu**ers squirm a bit, and tell them to shove their seal ban where the sun don’t shine first.
How many times do we have to save the euro weenies from themselves and their nasty neighbours
Ww1, ww2′ Bosnia
Yerps retreat from Moscow while they “Mull” their advance eastward? Idiot socialist EUnuchs have never read/learned from Napoleon/Adolf’s retreats from Moscow?
Why are the Yerps provoking Ivan?

I utterly disagree.
We should be ready to extract every last euro we can from Europe.
The best way to get our own back on the smug old EU is have them finance our own prosperity here and rub it in their faces.
Works for the Chinese!
Last time I read Euro history the Nazi were not running Germany in 1914. WW I was a fight over colonial assets and a Euro attempt to contain Germany’s growing economic
power. Germany was becoming a world power and no one liked that. If Canada and the USA had stayed out of that conflict the Euros would have had to come to an agreement that might have avoided 1939.
IMHO the Ukraine will only receive lip service from the Euros. They will put nothing on the line other than pleas for help from the Americans. The Euros will allow the Russians to reassert their buffer and in that process undermine any
‘moral authority’ that the EU ever thought they might have built. The EU economic authority has been crumbling for years now and now the pretense of political authority is doing the same.
I can only hope that Harper’s deployment of a few fighter jets and a ship to Euroland is more a ploy to sell oil there but history is not on my side.
Your first paragraph is right. The seeds for that war were planted when Bismarck united Germany in the 1860s. France and Britain did not want a third major power in Europe were not happy about German unification. France was still smarting from being defeated in the 1871 Franco-Prussian war which Napoleon III (?) started.
Let us hope that the Europeans move away from the so-called Green scam and start serious fracking, particularly in Poland, and going back to nuclear. That the US now passes Keystone. That we pass Gateway and quickly follow through with reversing the pipeline to eastern Canada.
Ditto.
BTW The anti-human greens are doing national demonstrations against clean pipelines Saturday May 10

Get out with those satirical placards!
From the “Defend Our Climate” link:
“Around the world, more money is being invested in creating electricity with renewable energy than all fossil fuels combined…”
Precious.
Speaking of buffer zones … any opinion on whether Israel should be allowed a buffer zone?
Saw an interesting poster on a map that shows where the NATO bases surrounding the east and south of Russia are located:
Russia wants war
Look how close they are to our bases.
New York Times may have to change its editorial position re: situation in Ukraine.
A reporter in Slovyensk, after interviewing militia members and local citizens, discovered the militia was considered themselves Ukrainian.
“We have no Muscovites among us,” said one, who considers himself Ukrainian but does not like what’s happening in Kiev.

Hmmm. You mean Putin’s not involved?
As I’ve been trying to say, this is a complicated situation that goes beyond the knee-jerk “Putin is an evil exansionist” baloney we’re being fed here.
Mansbridge was trying the same blame game on CBC Tuesday night, but the panel contradicted him, rightly pointing out it’s militias and, in the case of Odessa, an out-of-control mob.
Back in the day we said:
When ya got ’em by the shorts…..their hearts and minds will follow.
They may be right, Tim, in their statement “Around the world, more money is being invested in creating electricity with renewable energy than all fossil fuels combined…”
But that’s not the issue, really. The statement would likely be far more accurate if it were to say “Around the world, more money is being invested in creating electricity with renewable energy than all fossil fuels combined HOWEVER the AMOUNT OF electricity created with renewable energy is imperceptible compared to the energy created by fossil fuels”
Ken;
I am reading more comment about Putin’s personal net worth at $100 to $150 billion. Much of his wealth is held by second parties he controls. Heavily weighted to energy wealth. Communism is long dead and serves as a tool on the naïve. Russia is all about oligarchies controlled like a Mafia. It is dangerous but, at the same time, possibly positive in the assumption that enlightened self interest will prevail.
Also hearing a rationale that Putin is reasserting his ‘buffer’ to recover Russian populations to counter his declining ‘Russian’ demographic. Prediction that Russia’s population could be over 50% Islamic by 2050.
“If Canada and the USA had stayed out of that conflict the Euros would have had to come to an agreement that might have avoided 1939.”
Faulty history alert!
You are guilty of imposing your view of 2014 Canada on 1914 Canada.
This is actually a great opportunity. We can sell oil to Europe and truly rattle the U.S. at the same time. Currently the world buys and sells oil in U.S. dollars. If we were to sell to the EU and accept Euros the Americans would panic as it is the trade in oil that fuels the demand for U.S. currency. A couple of super-tankers paid for in Euros and the Keystone would be approved overnight.
Ralph;
No matter whether in US$ or Euros. Key point is that Canada sells crude to Euroland or China or India etc. Critical Canada gets world crude price rather than some factor of WTI. Currently Canada loses est $15 billion a year.
Big threat to Canada’s ambitions will be foreign money from the USA coming into the country to influence the outcome of the next federal election. I highly doubt that money will be going to the CPC. A weak, malleable, leftist government will be ideal for thwarting any Canadian ambitions of becoming a energy super star.
“Big threat to Canada’s ambitions will be foreign money from the USA coming into the country to influence the outcome of the next federal election.”
CT, this has been happening for quite some time already. Google Vivian Krause.
