The smear campaign against Professor Richard Tol;
Prof Tol, from Sussex University, is a highly respected climate economist and one of two ‘co-ordinating lead authors’ of an important chapter in the 2,600-page report published last week by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
He has been widely criticised by green campaigners after he claimed that the much shorter ‘summary for policymakers’ – hammered out in all-night sessions between scientists and government officials over a week-long meeting in Yokohama, Japan – was overly ‘alarmist’.
In his view, the summary focused on ‘scare stories’ and suggestions the world faced ‘the four horsemen of the apocalypse’.
He said he did not want his name associated with it because he felt ‘uncomfortable’ with the way the summary exaggerated the economic impact of global warming.
At some point even the fabulous low information voter crowd is going to get wise to this smear business.
Probably shortly after professors and other professionals learn to tell the smearers to go pound salt instead of apologizing all over the place. Speed the day.
McCarthy was right. unfortunately these climate change, global warming nuts are dead wrong.
I’m not sure that the term McCarthyism applies. The Roosevelt and Truman Administrations were riddled with Communists and those sympathetic to it.
Worse yet, “The Roosevelt and Truman Administrations” were riddled with Soviet agents not just useful idiots.
The climate alarmists think that if they “pump up the volume” on alarmism they will succeed in convincing people. But when they attack their critics (e.g. Tol) and distort the real situation as the summary clearly does, they simply undermine their own credibility and set themselves up for ridicule. If they cannot present the case without gross exaggerations, it is not surprising that their support is waning. Someone (maybe Stern) was predicting fighting over food and water within the next 5 to 10 years EVEN THOUGH — we have not had much warming yet. Such claims simply make no sense. Even devoting time to counter these people is becoming a waste of time. They do not give up, but they are undermining their own cause. Let them sink themselves.
Hysteria pimping doesn’t usually involve much nuance. It defeats the purpose.
