Things just got more complicated
Crimea Parliament “Accelerates Crisis”, Votes To Join Russia
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-03-06/crimea-parliament-accelerates-crisis-votes-join-russia
What this isn’t a movie? Someone needs to tell John Kerry that because he thinks he’s an actor and his big line is “Turtle turtle turtle”.
Khruschev’s 1954 “gift” of Crimea to the Ukraine during an alleged drunken stupor (according to Matthew Fisher in Thursday’s National Post) is now being taken back by the people who did not want to be given away.
Referendum to confirm will be held March 16.
Putin wins again while the west continues to bluster.
Economic sanctions? Sorry, comrade, about the natural gas taps being shut off.
“……that we are not seeking confrontation.”
Putin – “Yes, yes you said the same thing to Gaddaffi, I know, no confrontation, no Bootniks on the Ground”.
You’d think no Western leader would want to be pegged as another Chamberlain. My deepest regrets to the Ukrainians and even more for the world…the last time this happened (Sudetenland 1938) it was the prelude to WWII–and for all you Russian apologists…the Sudetenland was a part of Germany prior to WWI which they lost in the Treaty of Versailles. The only difference with the Crimea is that it was given to the Ukraine freely in 1954 by Russia.
Crimea River.
I had said this about a week ago, and I’m more confident about it.
There is no way that the Ukraine gets out of this with the Crimea. Whether the Crimea goes independent, or becomes part of Russia, it is leaving Ukraine.
If it comes to war, Russia beats Ukraine. Ukraine isn’t a part of NATO, so I would strongly resist any attempt to join/encourage any type of conflict.
And if I were in a position of authority in Ukraine, I’d write it off in the same way that the Czechs and Slovaks separated. Better to have a peaceful division than an acrimonious union.
And yes, Quebec, I’m looking at you.
It is getting really easy to figure out what the US is going to do. Take any announcement they make and expect the exact opposite of what they say. Therefore, Kerry saying that the US is not trying to start a conflict means they are actually doing all they can to spark one. It is to be expected really, as the US has been seriously and serially embarrassed by Russia and are itching to turn the tables and force Russia to go further than planned.
I’m sure they have focus grouped the blazes out of several possible actions and have settled on provoking Russia to commit some kind of atrocity. Barring that they will attempt some kind of false flag operation to achieve the same ends. But as witnessed in Syria they just do not have the assets available to pull that off without it looking transparently fake. It is extremely illustrative to watch this incompetent administration flounder around like this.
It’s at times like this that one can learn the most about a nation’s ability to fight and it is clear that the US has gone completely off the rails in a remarkably short time. Russia isn’t really being all that cunning nor very talented really. It’s just that the US has become spectacularly incompetent.
Sudetenland was not part of pre-WW1 Germany.
It was part of Bohemia owned by Austria-Hungary.
president obumbles.. charge of the light in the loafers brigade
Copied and pasted from the Canadian Landowner Alliance Blog:
A brave little lad called Obammy
Went exploring the world without Mammy
He ran into a ghost
On the Crimean Coast
And ran home with dirty peejammies.
Unlike the western Liberal public, Putin has probably figured out that Obamba LIES.

A clip of the real master of negotiated peace.
Crimea will join Russia or become a protectorate of them, that’s been obvious from the beginning. Putin will win another round, but he’s intelligent enough to still allow the Americans to claim they persuaded him to bend to their wishes.
Kerry will arrive home to a hero’s welcome, and Obama will proclaim victory, and the American people will agree and continue to worship at his feet.
And they’ll all thank God that Bush wasn’t in power “or we’d have had War!!!”.
Chris Mathews and the rest of the media love-in for Obama will be slobbering over how great Obama and Kerry functioned in this “time of crisis”.
Sometimes Putin must shake his head, sigh, and wish he had more capable opponents. Playing chess with the handicapped isn’t much fun after a while.
“President Obama and I want to make it clear to Russia and to everybody in the world, that we are not negotiating from a position of strength or expecting to get anything or …please don’t humiliate us in front of the world again, Vlad.”
FIFY
Fly sh*t and pepper.
Don Morris, very appropriate video…for a number of occasions in this presidency.
Are you really that naive?
Khruschev, the president of the USSR (not Russia), gifted Crimea to the Ukrainian Socialist Republic allegedly in a drunken stupor in 1954.
There must have been some guilt about the Holodomyr caused by Stalin (of Georgian ancestry), who died in 1953.
The Red Army suffered one-tenth of their WWII casualties defending Crimea from Hitler.
Ever heard of the Crimean War, in which the British were involved?
How close is Crimea to England? How close is Crimea to Russia?
Putin wins and the windbags continue to pass wind on this issue.
Just so you understand, favill, let me draw an equivalence.
Prime Minister Whoever of Canada gets hammered and decided on a whim to “gift” Saskatchewan to the United States.
Without consulting the local population or getting the approval of Parliament.
That, my friend, is what happened to the Russian population in Crimea just 60 years ago.
Capice?
Ah but Obama and Kerry would have been more upset if the were aware the Russians had high capacity magazines of a type that can be refilled over and over again- repeatedly
Khruschev was never President of the USSR(the position didn’t exist), he was 1st Secretary of the Communist Party.
And the USSR was Russia, not a different country.
The Russian Revolution led to the creation of the USSR entity when the Russian Red Army invaded several territories of the former Russian Empire(including Ukraine) and organized workers and peasants into soviets under Communist leadership.
These territories never had voluntary membership in Russia’s Revolution and, as such, were nations being used as little more than ‘human shields’ by Russia until Russia decided they were more costly than they were worth, at that time.
Putin has decided the equation has changed and he will be gathering all of his ‘human shields’ back to the bosom of Mother Russia.
The Prime Minister is saying he will reject the Crimean referendum as unlawful?
Quebec separatist can of worms about to open?
So when Obama whispered to Putin: “I’ll have more flexibility after my re-election”,
Putin thought to himself: “So will I”
98 lb. cowards say that all the time.
glasnost >
We’ll said.
I would imagine Obamba is utalizing his “flexability” as well.
Outside of the dog & pony show I have no doubts Obamba is for rent, and Russia has plenty for any low rent.
How can a snap referendum be recognized as lawful when the jurisdiction is freshly occupied by a foreign army(unidentified foreign troops) less than a week earlier?
This guy agree with you.

Russia may be legally allowed to have the troops there. They have a leased until 2017.

The same way that some people can claim they’re now running the Ukraine by running off a democratically-elected president. That president should be made accountable, of course, for the money he was entrusted with was stolen and used to enrich himself.
What authority does the current Ukrainian parliament have to take the actions they’re taking now without putting it to a vote?
Nobody really knows who the money men behind the takeover are. If you have any information, please enlighten us.
What authority, for example, does the current parliament have to appoint oligarch state governors, one of which now resides in Switzerland?
There’s been reports that one of the leaders vows to fight Communists, Jews and Russians. So, Khruschev being both a Communist and a Russian, does that mean he should return the 1954 gift of Crimea?
Way to go Obama. First you allow the Ukraine to be despoiled.
Your daring leadership will be seen by China which is increasing its army with American taxes.
As an excuse to invade Taiwan. North Korea now sees an invasion of South Korea is possible under this giant of cotton candy diplomacy.
Iran will be chomping on the bit feeling free now to go after Israel. Most of Americas ex allies are either going the nuke route, or distancing themselves from USA policy.
You can’t trust America under Obama. He will always put you under his bus with a roller.
Besides he’s to busy with the USA destroying its Republic to give a hoot about any thing but his plans to socialise her , while making the US a Nation of no account.
Russia Today anchor quits on the air.

“Besides he’s to busy with the USA destroying its Republic to give a hoot about any thing but his plans to socialise her……”
I don’t know if he’s ever said or done anything to the contrary.
He’s either really stupid as the Republicans claim, or really smart as the Liberals claim.
Any which way the results are the same.
Lame argument. The kind an Russian stooge would make.
I’m sure the lease does not allow for Russian troops, armed with loaded weapons and equipped with combat kit, to occupy: the legislature, communications hubs, airports, and surround Ukrainian military bases plus set up check points throughout the Crimea.
It’s one thing to recognize that Russia has a major naval base in Sebastopol and that it will be a trans-shipment point for their troops too, it’s another altogether to pretend the lease allows for the invasion and occupation of the entire Crimean peninsula.
If it did, the Russian troops would be wearing their identification patches.
“The same way that some people can claim they’re now running the Ukraine by running off a democratically-elected president.”
Again, I’ll make the point that this so-called democratically elected president was credibly accused of voted rigging the election that put him in office. Canada and a slew of other nations were sending election observers to oversee the next election which was scheduled to take place quite soon.
The interim government was going to allow these neutral 3rd part observers to be present at the election which was to be soon.
(I don’t have the exact date, but this spring)
What neutral 3rd party was present to observe this referendum in the Crimean parliament?
I mean, other than the ‘unidentified gunmen’ whom everyone except the Russian government and it’s agents recognize to be Russian soldiers.
What neutral international observers where there when drunken dictator Khruschev gave Crimea to Ukraine in 1954?
What say did the population of Crimea have in that instance?
Not a Russian stooge or an American one. I seek the truth and will stay above the name calling as that just weakens your argument. If you have the whole truth and have thus decided who is just and who is not then good for you. I however know that the first casualty of war is the truth and there is far more to this story than we know. As the stakes are as high as they are and the US track record is abysmal I think we need to root out the whole truth before taking sides.

“What say did the population of Crimea have in that instance?”
None, but then that was because of Russia, whose side you are taking here today.
I’m all for a referendum on Crimean independence, with 3rd party foreign observers.
Joining with Russia in a referendum while Russian troops are in the legislature less than a week after an illegal incursion is illegitimate.
No one has to go to war with Russia. They just have to expel it from the G8 and withdraw from the UN. If principled leadership is too much to ask for, then Kerry and Obama are perfect for this situation. They are lesser than Neville Chamberlain. His colossal mistake overshadowed a life of otherwise good service. Kerry and Obama have NONE of that. They are willing to screw over innocent people. The are evil.
I await Winston Churchill.
Way to go Obama. First you allow the Ukraine to be despoiled.
That’s funny. Mr. Zero doesn’t have the power to allow [or disallow] anything, even at home. Michelle wears the pants in that family. Zero is her ‘trophy husband’.
