Why Turkey Is Gone For Good

Caroline Glick;

As David Goldman explained last week in a financial analysis of Turkey’s incipient economic meltdown in The Asia Times, rather than raise consumer interests rates, Erdogan has blamed the Jews by railing against “the interest rate lobby.”
Indeed, since he first invoked the term during the anti-government demonstrations last August, Erdogan has taken to blaming the interest rate cabal for all of Turkey’s woes.
Goldman argues that part of Turkey’s credit crisis owes to its apparent reliance on interbank loans from Saudi Arabia. In part due to their anger at Erdogan for his support for the Muslim Brotherhood, the Saudis have apparently stopped loaning to Turkish banks.
The Saudis’ action has pushed Erdogan into the waiting arms of Iran’s ayatollahs. In an interview with Business Insider, Australia, terror financing expert Jonathan Schanzer said Turkey and Iran were able to minimize the impact of the international sanctions on Iran’s energy sector. Between June 2012 and June 2013, the Turkish-Iranian “gas for gold” sanctions-busting scheme brought Iran $13 billion in hard currency.
Erdogan’s hatred of Jews, his authoritarian mindset and his Islamist ideology informed his decision to transform Turkey into one of the leading sponsors of terrorism. In addition to its massive support for Hamas, beginning in the 2006 First Lebanon War Turkey began providing assistance to Hezbollah.
Then there is al-Qaida…

  1. To make greater sense of what is going on in Turkey (major target of Fed taper, having to raise bond %), Turkey is mediating non-USD petro purchases by India.

  2. Turkey and Iran are the two Islamic powerhouses in the ME. One Sunni the other Shia. I doubt there is any serious commonality of objectives. Financial distress does make odd bedfellows however. If Iran can neutralize Turkey’s potential military influence it secures their push against the Saudis.
The idea that Turkey is blaming the Jews for interest rates is getting about 2400 years to old. It seems to work no matter the era.

  3. The Gathering Storm…
No one would listen to Winston Churchill, if he was still around, this time either.

  4. Well fashion is coming around in tighter and shorter cycles, why not the madness of the herd?
As the fiscal system collapses, it is imperative the masses be provided with an alternate scapegoat.
    Oh look ; A Jew!.
In the age of this internet, will the old time misdirection and incitement work?
After all, if your stealing has drained the public treasury to the point beyond bankruptcy, you would not want the rubes looking at you.

  5. off topic but important
Do you want people who do not live in Canada voting? I do not.
    Many are Canadians of convenience.

  6. “The interest rate lobby”? oh, the guys caught gaming LIBOR, gold price, silver price, and God knows what else? I’m sure the Jerusalem Post is every bit as reliable as the NYT.

  7. Can Conservative governments quietly get through enough changes, and do they really want to, to protect Canada and those citizens truly loyal to Canada before the world falls apart in the Middle East and Europe ?

  8. I am not impressed by the quotes from Caroline Glick. As David Goldman has emphasized at length and in
detail elsewhere, a key problem with Turkey is demographics: the population of the interior is exploding
relative to that of the coastal population. The people in the interior are backward and tend to be fundamentalist
Moslem. The accommodations with the West, and with Turkey’s neighbours and indeed indigenous peoples,
were made largely by rulers coming from the coastal areas – sophisticated Levantines, one might say.
And that is why Turkey is lost.
In Voltaire’s day Turkey was regarded as particularly tolerant (so long as one stayed out of Turkish politics,
    which often has been murderous)!

  9. But I thought the saudis were the backers of a-q…per the putin saudi ambassador discussion re syria.
This is an internal fight for supremacy of the “arab” world. Alliances will shift. We just need to focus on our interests and cause mischief otherwise.

  10. A true societal changer in North America; the Middle East and will not add to the increasing anti-Semitism of Europe is for Canada to offer dual-citizenship to all citizens of Israel. Both Jew and Arab.
    This would erase the stain on Canada’s history regarding ant-Semitism. This occurred when the Canadian Federal Cabinet, in place when Jews were trying to escape Nazi Europe, said to the media, when asked “how many Jews should be allowed to emigrate to Canada”, received the Federal Cabinet’s position with “one is too many”. not to cheerful;

  11. “This would erase the stain on Canada’s history regarding ant-Semitism.”
Offering all citizens of Israel Canadian citizenship makes no sense.
I don’t give a fig what past generations did. I don’t owe anybody anything for something someone else did to some foreigner before I was born. Swap out Black for Jew and you’re reasoning social justice like Barack Obama.
The Jews who survived the Holocaust were saved by the force of Canadian arms, blood, and treasure.
That was stain remover enough for my Dad(417 Squadron RCAF) and it’s stain remover enough for me.

  12. Happy you are able to have comfort from your Father’s service. I spent five years in the R.C.N. during the cold war. Did not feel I was atoning for any evils. However, did recognize at 18 years of age that having a Communist government in Cuba was probably not good.
Also at 18 years when witnessing for first time absolute poverty as existed in Trinidad, I recognized even though being raised by a single parent prior to the present welfare support systems, that Canada was a good place to have been born in.
    The shame I referred to was Federal Cabinet decision that was politically motivated to enable the Liberal Party to gain votes from their brokerage politics. The shame is only for the easily bought votes and their enablers. I did not think this applied to you Oz from the emails I have read from you here. Not sure where I offended but apologize regardless. Cheers;

  13. I bet the Turkish people are cursing the day they ever got involved with the EU baking cartel, that is if they even aware of the damage done – that is the financial cabal who hollowed out Turkey’s economic independence – these vultures and their credit schemes which amounts to loan shark racketeering did it with bogus promises of trade with the EU with establishing proper line of credit with the “right” capital interests – but they took the credit line bait and maxed the card – now a big chunk of either the country or its productivity is owned by foreign creditors or Turk currency craters.
This has nothing to do with “jews” and obviously the squanderers in Turkish government are looking for a scape goat to pin the credit default/melt down on hoping Turks are stupid/bigoted enough to buy this BS and save themselves from a well-deserved lynching. There are high level credit vultures circling everywhere looking for weak national leadership to entice with unrepayable loans – Turkey was unfortunate enough to have a leadership with SXXt for brains and an addiction for easy credit and lush living – a loan sharks wet dream.
Now they share the fate of a lot of African nations.

  15. “Then there is al-Qaida…” – not a problem, I would say, for the Turks. Not for nothing were they the masters of the
Middle East for centuries. Arabs fear and respect Turks; not the other way round. And al Quaida will not be
    any different.

  16. Oh look ; A Jew!.
Fearless Leaders law (also known as Fearless Leaders Rule of Financial Analogies,
or Fearless Law of World Financial Problems) is a humorous observation made by Fearless Leader in 2014 which has become an Internet adage.
It states: “As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Jews and the Worlds Financial Problems approaches.”
In other words, Fearless Leader put forth the sarcastic observation that, given enough time,
all financial online discussions—regardless of topic or scope—inevitably end up being about Jews and the Worlds Financial Problems.

Just for you North of 60

  17. “Happy you are able to have comfort from your Father’s service.”
Not at all. As I said, it was his service and it was his stain(as you put it and he did vote for Mackenzie King)
Well MikeSr, as I said earlier, I was not even born when McKenzie King’s government rejected Jewish immigration.
I don’t owe anybody anything for something someone else did to some foreigner before I was born.
Giving ALL Jewish and Arab Israeli citizens Canadian citizenship just because they are Israelis(as if none of them are bad citizens in Israel) makes no sense.
Such an idea smacks of racism*.
*(for want of a better term)
Anyhow, what this thread is about is Turkey and how Turkish society has changed for the worse because of Erdogan, Jews being but the canary-in-the-coal-mine.
What can I say about that except that Turks elected Erdogan and I have little doubt that the Turkish mosks with their Saudi trained Imams are the reason for such a change in Turkish society.
