Operation Empty Chair

Video:

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R., Calif.) had a simple question Wednesday for three of the Obama administration’s top Afghanistan specialists: How many American troops have been killed in Afghanistan this year? None of the witnesses at the House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on Afghanistan had an answer.

  1. Politicians’ interest in war dissipates rapidly after the largess of the military contractors’ lobbyists is distributed.
Actual casualties are just a row in a spreadsheet, along with lost canteens and rucksacks.

  2. That’s what you get when Kings no longer lead their armies into battle. (I’m using that as a figure of speech.)

  3. Your classic Paper Tigers. They just look like tigers, but really they are just one dimensional images.

  4. To be fair to the witnesses the MSM hasn’t been reporting on American casualties and KIAs since Obama became president (no more “grim milestones”) so how would they know? /sarc

  5. Just like the NYT stops reporting on the plight of the homeless in New York as soon as a Dem is elected POTUS, and starts up again when a Republican is elected.

  6. As peterj points out, casualty numbers are easy to find. This seems more a case of politicians not wanting to be captured on TV saying those numbers.
Seems like a lot of trouble to go to, just to avoid being linked to your own policy. But I guess that’s modern politics.
Or they could really be that clueless, I suppose. Troubling thought.

  7. Maybe they can also ask how many of the overseas soldiers’ votes were counted before the last coronation. If I was a US soldier I’d be some pissed at that chimp in the White House and his henchmen.

  8. I’m surprised they didn’t immediately report the highest estimate of Afghanis that have been killed by the US. Maybe they’re not sure which side they support anymore.

  9. Answering the question might lead to the facts that the majority of those killed and wounded have been during the Obumble’s administration’s reign and then, Horrors of Horrors, the Rules of Engagement changes made by Obumbles & Co. might get discussed IN FRONT OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE THAT SEEM TO KNOW VERY LITTLE OF WHAT IS GOING ON IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY. Can’t have that, so give the Democrat answers 1. I don’t know. 2. What difference does it make now.

  10. I must be the only one shocked to find out there is actually Republican elected in California.
