My belief is that the Progressive Left deliberately pushes the most extreme version(s) of their agenda as a negotiating tactic; while at the same time as misdirection for their political opponents.
1) by pushing the extreme version of their so called ‘tolerance’ policy(for example, the now ACCEPTED theory in law and academia that there are not 2 genders, but multiple genders), they can move the ‘center’ of the discussion towards their real goal(ie gay marriage/ free tranny operations ect). This is standard negotiating practice, and good politics, as it puts their opponents (people who are in the ‘real center’) into the realm of ‘intolerant’ as the ‘center’ has passed them by to the left.
2) by pushing the extreme version(s) of their policy; they cause their political opposition to be ‘enraged’ and distracted from large issues such as the economy; which allows them to alienate themselves from the voters by being perceived as ‘intolerant'(see example 1); which is effective in moving potential economic issue voters out of the Right-wing tent which halts progress on the economic issues. The result, the Left wins.
You will see this same tactic used regarding abortion, where the Left will support the very extreme position on the issue, knowing full well their political opponents will drop everything else, and walk in single file to the proverbial political gas chamber. Once again, moderates who also abhor the extreme views on abortion are once again alienated from the sensible tent as those on the Right continue to take the bait, rekindling the non-issue of abortion. The result, the Left wins.
Until the Right realizes that the Left and the media in most cases are ‘Wagging the(political) Dog’; they are doomed to be perceived as everything they are not, and will likely not see a majority of voter support in either country for a very long time.JMO
