Too little, too late.
That’s how Alex Vasni and his wife, Anar, felt, as they stood on their Kenworthy Ave. porch Monday morning and watched Premier Kathleen Wynne hand out food hampers to select neighbours on the street while the media followed her.[…]
“Someone came around and pre-interviewed us for this (photo opportunity),” said Anar, 55. “My husband was venting away and so now, they just bypassed us. Even if they brought the food basket to us, we would’ve told them to give it to the people that really need it — the ones without power, still.”

Food spoiled by the storm? When the outdoors is one giant freezer and the temperature inside the house is just above freezing?
City slickers.
Please, please call an election this spring, Ms. Wynne. The sooner we can boot you Lieberals out of office the better.
Wynnemill Milly has found another way to win the hearts and votes of Toronto, run around with baskets of food and offers of $100 dollar vouchers, taking advantage of the ice storm to play politics.
I’m sure there are agencies in that large city who help those who need it in such a situation. She sure as hell didn’t get around to all of them, just enough to get publicity at our expense.
Ontario’s power grid.. Infrastructure maintenance and upgrades, zero.. Windmills and solar panels, 20 billion dollars..
Its just obscene, absolutely negligent to overspend on a non existent global warming while you toss young families and seniors under the bus so they can freeze in the cold..
People have died!
I was stunned that the food baskets weren’t halal! Wynne is so politically incorrect! She might even lose my vote!
Yeah well, mosta these outages could been prevented easily…trim the damn trees…..cut down the old ones.
Like the New England ice-storm outages a while back…..the place wuz overgrown.
Does the gay Miss Hathaway think we are the Beverly Hillbillies?
Well good luck with cutting down trees in Toronto where common sense is long lost. Their brains have gone to green mush, they’re counting on global warming saving them from ice storm disasters.
Mother nature hit them on the head and gave Wynnemill the chance to run around toting baskets of food, press in tow, to remind the voters she will take care of them.
Yes, all socialist politicians think we’re as dumb as a sack of hammers, that’s why they do these insulting photo-ops.
“Dole out a few crumbs to the peasants and they’ll be dumb enough to vote for me “,is what Wynne is really saying.
But she’ll piss away billions on green lunacy, and never apologize.
Sorry Ontario-ites, you got the gay-female-premier-mom-for-life!
It’s bad enough I have to watch commercials of Whynneing jogging on television and U-Tube. Now I have to worry about her knocking at my door. At least with T-Tube I can skip the ad in three, two, one.
“Someone came around and pre-interviewed us for this (photo opportunity),…”
Wonder if that someone was with the Trawna media, or Wynne’s Liberal fart-catchers?
Of course, I guess there isn’t really much of a difference. A true journalist would have (a) objected to the screening and refused to take part in the charade, and (b) reported it.
Clowns in Toronto will vote for her anyways. I am disgusted with Ms. Horvath for letting the corrupt Liberals cling to power for so long.
I hate to vote for any “Progressive”party but I may have to hold my nose for Hudak.
God I miss Mike Harris.
“…I may have to hold my nose for Hudak. God I miss Mike Harris.”
I know the feeling. I tell you one thing, if there’s nothing from Hudak on compensating landowners for land-use restrictions, I’ll be staying home on election day – and so will my family and friends.
The people of Ontario are all dumb as a sack of hammers!!
Why because you voted for this person by voting previously for dalton …and before that dalton again…..not to mention you refuse to get off your fat lazy selfish asses and help your conservative candidate..sometimes it not just about donating to a party get out and rally people put the left wing bs to sleep by speaking truth to power answer questions….speak out when you hear someone talking garbage…I genuinely do feel bad for Ontario but at the same time I hope it keeps going until complete and total financial ruin 20x worse than now. Even worse…keep voting liberal. Keep doing it for another 10 years or go for ndp even worse…that’s what I want..put it on display like Detroit …just ruin Toronto 20x worse than it is now let it fail let it break fall apart and be destroyed… Teach you all a good lesson….all it takes for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing and that ..remember that next time you make a donation to the conservative squish . Get off your ass and do something ….show up to riot, protest take time off work to fight for what is important to you. Until you are willing to do that…you deserve every single damn thing that happens every last one of you!!!
I was immediately reminded of the days when Cubans had their rations delivered to their door by the government. Very creepy.
Raving again, Paul?
Not everyone in Ontario votes Liberal and I resent you classing us all in together. Now who can I complain to as I am offended by being told we’re all dumb as a sack of hammers?
Sarc off, but being the age I am, I’m always surprised at your Christian choice of language. Does that mean I think you are a hypocrite, or just highly emotional?
Calgary. Is that in the province that voted for Redford…when it had the opportunity to vote for someone who was truly right wing?
Tell ya what, Paul in Calgary. Start blocking highways out there, and maybe then we’ll listen to ya.
The only thing that is surprising here. Is that Kathleen Wynne was not handing out baskets of strap on, condemns or dildos. With free birth control pills for all.
Butch buckets For a photo op
Christian choice of language?
I just thought I was being polite…lol
Oops…more than one Paul on here
Easy to be generous with other peoples money. Bet not a single nickel came out of her own pocket. At least the stores that donated generously could write it off, but anything Wynne is doing will be covered by already overburdened taxpayers. She knows the next election is soon and is already on the campaign trail. I hope the people involved can see this for what it is. Pandering to the naive and the gay lobby is about all she’s got left. Anyone with a functioning brain can see she’s just a uglier version of McGuinty.
What’s with the derogatory gay comments @ our premier?
Can’t we just trash her , her party, their policies and track record…there is lots of material.
If I was worried about my food going bad in an ice storm due to loss of power I’d stick it in a Cooler and put it outside where its freezing.
If I knew Wynne was coming I’d keep the most perishable stuff where it could rot so I’d have something to pelt her with.
Save yourself! You need to install Adblock Plus. I think if I had to be subjected to ads featuring that useless hat-rack I’d gouge out my eyes.
Inadvertently sticking up for Paul…
Once you have seen the turnaround from Danielle with regards to what she actually believes in (lower speed limits on Deerfoot, global warming, etc.), it’s rather apparent that there aren’t any right wing candidates out here.
And we’re less for that being the case.
sasquatch
when you don’t have a clue, the best post is not to post, trimming would have don’t about ZERO for the situation, period, end of discussion, the ice was that thick and heavy that just ice covered wires snapped posts.
Calgarians are the dumbest of all. They reelect Nenshi.
FWIW, being as I am, apparently, as dumb as a sack of hammers, I’d say that the Liberals are in quite a lot of trouble if Ms. Wynne is going selective door to selective door handing out food baskets in downtown Toronto — reminds me, really, of Paul Martin, Jr. in the final days…something about banning hand-guns (which were already effectively banned) in the wake of the Jane Creba atrocity.
The problem for Ms. Wynne, actually, is that SHE made her homosexuality the issue, when the real issue in Ontario is the economy. “Wires down” is a total lame-o Toronto Hydro excuse: CBC claims that there was a consultant’s report from a year ago that “global warming” would result in more ice storms, therefore we should zzzzzzzzzzzz… I would be more than happy to explain the financial economics of that clap-trap to them, if they really wanted to know, which they don’t.
As it happens, there are a good many people who like very much what Mr. McGuinty was trying to do in respect of health-care integration (disregarding entirely what has been done in the field of mental health care, which has been a total disaster).
There is a strong likelihood — probably greater than eighty percent, actually — that Ontario will vote Conservative this time round (disregarding, of course, the “Progressive” part of the moniker, which even Mike Harris ran under, and which should have been dropped long ago).
I happen to think that Mr. Hudak will make a very good premier, and a reasonable facsimile of the revolutionary we are looking for now.
Don’t yell at Wynne. Yell at the people who voted for her and people like her. This is their government. Are you still without power? Thank your @$$hole neighbour for voting Liberal.
Right you are James. Albertans, albeit late to the socialist Mardi Gras, are heading in the same direction, and they had a chance to vote true conservative. As a consequence, Albertans are watching their property rights erode just as fast as Ontarians have done. I once overheard Hudak say (off stage during leadership debate) “I’m f*$&ing sick of hearing about property rights”. I ain’t votin’ for that. Paul’s right too though. Gotta let it all fall apart first. People have to feel serious pain before they wake up. Maybe.
Graciously handing out food to someone who opposes you would have made for a powerful image for the Wynne people. Thankfully, they are not bright enough to figure that out.
Energy is political with the NDP and the Liberals clearly stated goals and priorities..
Expecting them to change with so much rubber stamped support is asking them to lose the next election by outing themselves as incompetent fools.. It wont happen..
We need a new government in Ontario.. Rework, rethink our priorities.. Face saving tweaks and gradual de-funding of our mistakes..
Liberal energy policy has PISSED OFF about a million voters with most of them living in the city.. Dreaming about windmills while your in the 3rd day of cold winter dark.. They are lucky the whole system didn’t collapse..
Businesses have lost money.. People have lost money.. A great deal of property damage..
A huge bill for the quick repairs that leave us just as exposed as we were before the storm..
We have lost ground with all our money tied up in political green.. A dangerous game in Canada.. Lets see if the people are smart enough to punish the Liberals when the next election rolls around..
In response to y’all,
You missed my point completely. but I will defend and stand by what I said.
Tim Hudak is a conservative squish, definatly more conservative that ALISSON REDFRAUD. But lemmi quote from the coments above
“…I may have to hold my nose for Hudak. God I miss Mike Harris.”
I know the feeling. I tell you one thing, if there’s nothing from Hudak on compensating landowners for land-use restrictions, I’ll be staying home on election day – and so will my family and friends. Those comments were made by the other PAUL in this room.
That kinda stupidity is what will keep everyone else in except the conservatives.
So in addition to that free wisdom I will not be building roadblocks anywhere is alberta it’s illegal, however if I was Third nations you darn rights I would be putting up road blocks. When the federal libs and ndp were threatening a co-alition against harper I took a full day off of work and went and protested down at city hall , did it make a difference I don’t know . What I can say is that my freedom and liberty is more important to me than a day’s pay.
I was out on a campaign trail with Rob Anderson member of the wild rose party of alberta knocking on doors , making a differenc did I make a difference….Yes I did I was able to explain to people why they should vote for the wild rose party instead of the pc’s who had been voting pc since they changed there name to the pc party. maybe they lied to me maybe they stuck with the old dogs. maybe they didn’t.
only they know who’s name they marked on the ballot. But what I do know is that I will not , and did not sit on my hands, I refuse to not vote for my party of choice because I think the candidate is a squish on just the same as the others. You don’t know how they will be once in power.
So I respect you right to not vote for Hudak @PAUL &Jamie, but I’m sorry that is wrong in my opinion, it’s all you have and as much as he is like the next guy I can assure you he will not be nearly as bad a s Dalton wynne , or Horvath , maybe a centrist but it’s better than a left and far left party, or have you not seen or had enough yet?
And I’m not sure if you saw the last election in alberta but the wild rose party went from being the 4th place non exsistent (radical right wing extremeist) party to the official opposition ….look for bigger things in 2016. Yes I had a hand in that was it the result that I wanted? NO! But I not “be staying home on election day with my friends and family” that’s for sure. elections have consiquences!!!
As for my faith and cussing and all of that I’m a sinner like you all , I make mistakes and yes I get emotional, because I care as much about Ontario as I do about alberta.I have walked a different path in my life and it has made me who I am far from perfect. If as a fellow Christian my enthusiasm offends you I am sorry. I was an atheist till I was 28, I voted liberal until the adscam blew open I have never looked back. I was homeless, I was involved in very bad things as a youngster,i found out that if you don’t make yourself herd or stand up for yourself and fight for what you believe in you will be trampled on.So I do use colorful language from time to time. but please don’t blame jesus for my sins. Thank him for forgiven them. it is me the sinful human me that makes these mistakes not god or chirsianity. I have always told people that I do not represent chirstians very well even though I am one, but I am a work in progress. I have come along way for the scumbag thief, drug dealing,b&e specialist, womanizing, vadal hoodlum I once was. if I throw out a cuss word or an insult once in a while while I agree it is wrong and not at al the way my church congregation, pator ,wife or anyother chirstian would want to represent them I can forgive myself because Christ first forgave me and I will continue my journey maybe one day I will be a perfect as you.
I would be boiling in my pants right now at what they have done to that province there is no way I would be “staying home on election day” after the garbage that has gone on in Ontario. I love this country , it’s my “home and native land” I don’t know anywhere else there is no back home for me people ask me where I’m from or my back round I say Canadian. they act confused ….and say no no no like where from …I say Canada I was born and raised in Canada this is where I am from…only after they ask me where my family is from will I tell them “malta” on my dads side and “Belgium” on my moms side…but I have never been to either place , and when I travel abroad I am damn proud to tell people that I am Canadian …no one can take that from me. I am becoming more and more frustrated with the lack of respect for the queen, our constitution ,our judeao Christian root’s that built this country , the relentless trampling on our fallen soldiers graves back to the plains of Abraham who helped form this great nation . I know the beat goes on but the quality of politicians in this country is embarrassing. and i am just frustrated. if you re read ..slowly what i said up above you will see i do care about Ontario i am concerned but ..it aint bad enough yet obviously and if you as a conservative or what ever are willing to stay home on election day because hudak is not right enough you need a slap. Look at what the others have done. you owe it to yourself to get involved.
Yeah….y’all should foller yer own advice.
The news pics and videos feature a $hit-loada tree stuff on the streets ‘n wires with no busted posts shown.
But then mebbe yer one of them handwringers that chain themselves to dead/dyin’ trees….
“…That kinda stupidity is what will keep everyone else in except the conservatives.
So in addition to that free wisdom I will not be building roadblocks anywhere is alberta it’s illegal”
Did you just spell conservative with a small c?
Hudak? Redford? conservative?
Tell you what, you go ahead and vote for them…I’m sick and tired of these turds taking our votes for granted because they drape themselves in blue. They give us dick-all in return. F%$# them. It’s quid pro quo time. If Hudak and his gang of fart-catchers don’t have property rights legislation in their bag of tricks, not only will I not vote for them, I’ll be asking them at every public candidate’s meeting I can get to why anyone should vote for a crew that won’t protect property rights.
And we know you won’t be blocking any highways – you’re obviously not the type. It is illegal here in Ontario too, but some of us went ahead and did it anyway.
Jaimie read my above staements…
I did NOT vote for Alison REDFRAUD! I voted for the wild rose party who have property rights ON there agenda!!!
I know hudak is a squish but I bet he would be much better than anyone else.
Pinch your nose and do what you said you would do,force his hand to either enshrine property rights into there platform or he will never get into power.
