Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

That is getting a bit carried away, but a few weeks ago I was driving from Uxbridge to Oshawa, and the smell of wood smoke in the car was sickening. I can only imagine that it wa from peoples fire places. When I lived in England if you drove around the countryside in the winter the smell of coal fumes could be overpowering. Would I ban it, no I’m not into banning things, but in an urban area if a lot of people were burning poor quality, unseasoned wood I can see a problem.
You should probably get that car looked at.
Link is broken
No link -thanks.
Nobody smokes, burning barrels are prohibited, burning garbage dumps are a thing of the past and car engines burn gasoline so cleanly they have no smell. I wonder if we have developed an intolerance to smoke because we never smell anything burning anymore.
here is rural newfoundland I love the fact I can’t open a window in the house or the door without having the house fill up with smoke from the neighbours chimney.
When i lived in Scotland the coal the neighbours burned was nauseating.
also, one of my major pet peeves is that all these individuals cutting wood for firewood never go back in the woods in the summer to replant seedling in the previous winters clear cut.
Most unfortunate the leftist infatuation with giant fans, along with the accompanying skyrocketing power bills, likely stimulates a boom in the use of wood for heat.
I like the smell of a wood fire in the fall and winter. at home I would load up my fireplace and burn wood all day. it was a wonderful warmth. some people use their stoves and fireplaces to burn scrap wood that has paint and other finishes on it. that does not smell very nice.
Uh….trees reproduce themselves thanks to the creation of seeds on the trees. The people cutting the trees down for firewood don’t cut every tree down. The use selective logging. They provide a service by cutting down mature trees and allowing for light to penetrate the forest floor to create new growth.
Seems like another stupid “progressive” has found SDA.
I wonder if San Francisco City Hall qualifies as “solid fuel” under this regulation?
Exactly Sporty. From what I’ve seen in rural Newfoundland there won’t be any cataclysmic collapse to the firewood supply any time soon.
“The coldest winter I ever saw was the summer I spent in San Francisco.” attributed to Mark Twain
The ‘Marine Layer'(fog) as they call it can make it quite chilly, when they succeed in pricing energy out of reach and prohibit alternatives, then, just like in the UK as reported by The Telegraph, they may succeed in achieving those “excess winter deaths”.
Population cull has always been the goal of ‘environmentalists’.
Another milestone in the continuing psychopathy of post 9/11 governing.
“I like the smell of a wood fire in the fall and winter.”
I agree. One of our daughters and her husband burn wood and we can not smell the smoke outside or inside when we go there. Of course the son-in-law knows to burn cured wood and always cuts green wood a year in advance or culls good dead wood from their bush, which they have lots of.
I am on my second cord already, all of it taken from my own property. It is simply keeping Mother Nature at bay. If I did not cut and burn, the place would be as over grown as a lost Mayan pyramid.
Our fireplace insert burns hot and cleanly, leaving virtually no ash and little visible smoke while cutting our hydro bill in half. Oddly enough, in an article by noted lefty Sam Harris he is encouraging the burning of gas – meanwhile all his sycophants are doing all they can to stop the development of gas projects.
After they have banished the burning of wood, they will attack gas use in earnest.
I don’t know about a ‘wood burning’ awareness class but apparently some people in TO need a ‘using barbecue in the house during a blackout’ awareness class.
Seriously I cannot believe people HERE are defending their use of wood stoves. Your not burning bloody tires people! I could care less if your stove has a re burner or not, or if the odd log smokes.
Well I respect the opinions here, I do shake my head when we witness the attitudes of those that are thankful (at least that’s what it seems like) for the multitude of government sponsored classes to “train” you, for your neighbors sake.
Where does it stop and when do we quit apologizing for doing nothing wrong but owning the wrong thing? Quit putting up with people that effect so many things we do that make life cheaper, warmer, and safer in such a common sense way for our families, especially if it’s one of the warmest ways to keep your a– warm in the winter.
I hate watching all the frigging windmills go up, but guess what mind set built those (the “fresh”air people).
F— em
Quit apologizing for living for Pete’s sake.
Because, ya now, humans didn’t spend roughly a quarter-million years basically sitting around fires.
Or something.
Methinks San Francisco needs a significant event similar to our recent ice storm. Knock out power in that city for several days in the winter (yes, it gets quite chilly in SF). Let those progressive bastards freeze in the dark.
well there is “doing it” and “doing it rite”, which is something ppl tend to forgit
lefties just don’t want you to do anything unless state sanctioned
The fire’s dying down…time to throw a few more faggots on it.
Interesting.
A big uproar about our putative “privacy” because of the Snowden revelations about the NSA, GCHQ and CSEC.
Yet we’re perfectly happy to allow petty municipal governments to routinely intrude into our private lives.
