Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

1-800-F**-You! Wow. It would be absolutely fascinating to know who assigned that number to Obamacare. Was it the phone company? Or did the Feds specifically request it?
Either way, red face for somebody.
And here I thought truth in advertising laws didn’t apply to government.
Haven’t you heard of the Hypocritic Oath? It’s socialism’s assurance of care.
This is a supplement to the free food and circuses.
Speaking of BumBum care and the Hippocratic oath….Primum non nocere (first do no harm),apparently the Chimp-in-Chief has no Latin translators on his staff.
Another sign of the collapse of thoroughly rotten , hollowed out political system that now operates on fantasy power.
You are watching the slow-motion collapse of the U.S. government – a failure that may portend an even more sobering failure to come.
This is a Hello Kate, government that has:
Run out of money
Run out of credit
Run out of national vision
Run out of trust from the People
Run out of excuses for its utter abandonment of law, justice and responsible government
Run out of time to cure all the above
What happens if the debt ceiling is not extended?
What happens when federal pension liabilities collapse
What happens when 25 million Fed paychecks bounce?
But give me a din on your new Obamacare phone and tell me how you’re recovering from the collapse
Edit: I’ll lower the score on ‘credit’
Haha, if busy call 1-800-347-8627 (dirt-nap)!
In Soviet Russia, Man sticks it to YOU!!
Well not surprised, Team Obama and the Democrats have been 1-800-318-2596’ing me for 5 years now.
BWOCK! Socialism! BWOCK! Socialism!
Don’t you guys ever get tired of parroting the rightwing moron machine that keeps people dumb, sick and poor?
The facts. The top 5 countries for business in the world all have a version of universal healthcare.
http://www.bloomberg.com/slideshow/2013-01-18/best-countries-for-business-2013.html
Oh, and then there are all of these charts, which shows how Americans pay more for healthcare, but get less bang for their buck on average. Go America!!!! I can see why you would hold this system up as a shining example of awesomeness. “Duh… we like payin’ more money for lousy service because freedum.”
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/03/health-care-costs-_n_3998425.html
And now, instead of working to actually improve how ACA works, a handful of hardcore Republicans would put the US at risk of attack, or worse just to preserve a lousy status quo. Honestly, Al Quada is laughing their asses off right now. Probably realizing, “no wait, let’s just sit back and do nothing, because these guys will do it for us.”

“The facts. The top 5 countries for business in the world all have a version of universal healthcare.”
Did any of those countries start off their “Universal Healthcare” with 310 million people, 47% of whom pay ALL the tax’s, 47 million on welfare, 20+ million illegal immigrants and 200 trillion dollars’ worth of unfunded liability debts?
Nope, your “facts” are skewed.
And yeah, no problem with the shutdown… who needs guvrnment anyway?
“U.S. companies warn of delays, furloughs from shutdown”

But of course, it’s clear what’s going on here and why you’re all so happy. Being apocalyptic survivalists with your little guns and bugout bags, you want the end to come. Not sure who’s worse… Bin Laden’s boys or you guys. You’re actually quite nihilistic and I think it’s about time you get called on it. I’m not actually a communist, but you guys are nihilists.
Stop feeding the effin d!ckhead troll ….
Realists actually and The Sham-Wow Guy in Chief is peddling snake oil…
Look at the chart. Americans already pay significantly more for healthcare they don’t even get. Their whole systems is a huge, huge mess. ACA is just the beginning of figuring out a fix, but right now conservatives can’t even acknowledge these basic facts.
I’m not trolling you guys. If I were doing that, I would be saying “nya nya nya nya poo poo”. I’m trying to engage you in a fact-based conversation an failing miserably.
What OMMAG said.

Obviously John has absolutely no knowledge of what Obamacare is (or even the true nature of big governments who label themselves “socialist” for that matter).
Obamacare is NOT the equivalent of public funded universal healthcare in other nations – it was written by the insurance companies to limit their present liability and increase premium income _ it makes private health insurance mandatory under penalty and puts the government as only a universal regulator of the system – the system is still run by private underwriters John. The previous US public health system (medicare)covered people with no ability to pay for insurance, this system requires them or their employer to pay the premiums and limits coverage. This fed requirement to carry (private) health insurance has thrown many people out of a job as employers must downsize to insure the employees they have = not very “socialist” John – more like crony capitalism with a dash of fascism thrown in to drive the project forward against the will of the people – much like the bank bailouts and unrestrained quantitative easing easing.
But the facts don’t matter to you do they John. Your extent of political discourse amounts to unquestioningly sucking in all the drivel fed you by the reality manufacturing media, and corporatocracy then labeling and name-calling anyone who knows better and doesn’t share your narrow world view and limited intellect. By all means remain ignorant and believe in rainbows and unicorns – just another dead intellect in the zombie horde stampeding mindlessly toward an illusion. Either wake up, get informed or learn to like forced austerity – which is where all socialist and klepto-corporatist systems end up.
The one reality of history zombies like John live in denial of is that socialism, like crony corporatism are unsustainable systems – collapse is assured.
John, I doubt if anyone here would argue that the old system needed change but the new system is even worse and far more damaging to the economy. Knight 99 once again tries to tell you the main problem. The HMO’s were bad but having the government for a middleman is even worse. Government equals empire building, inefficiency and almost always incompetence. Not really what one wants when the economy is already on its financial death bed. You may not be a communist but socialist is basically the same thing and always has the same outcome. Do you personally spend far more money than you have without giving a thought on how you will pay it back ? Go out and buy a new Mercedes when you can’t even make the minimum payments on your debts and your house is in danger of being repossessed ? That’s a close analogy of where the USA is at. This whole subject has less to do with health care and everything to do with affordability. Like I asked you in another thread, who will pay for it John ? You are certainly correct about Al Qaeda sitting back and laughing their asses off, but only because they can’t believe Obama’s incompetence and willingness to to destroy the USA without their help.
It’s funny Occam, how you talk about name calling, but resort to it yourself. Not sure if you’ve noticed me here before, but usually I try to speak in a respectful tone, get called a “commie/socialist/fag/nancyboy/blah/blah/blah”, and finally start name calling myself.
I don’t deny the ACA is complex. It may not even be the right or perfect solution, but it’s a start towards reforming a terrible system that is costing Americans loads of money already, while delivering very poorly on service. The fact that it’s been passed into law, should be enough for the GOP to step up to the plate and do their job, and then try to fix it in the future, but it’s not.
Whatever. They’re going to shoulder the blame for this, so that’s fine by me. Let them pick this silly little fight. The US has to get it’s debt situation under control, but they’re not capable of having a real conversation about it. Higher taxes for the extremely wealthy, and a smaller military would do wonders, but that’s not something the GOP can even think about.
I’m just glad this can’t ever happen in Canada. If Parliament can’t agree on a budget, it is dissolved and an election called. Pretty brilliant actually.
So please go ahead. Fight this. I hope government stays closed for a month. Maybe then Americans will realize that “hey… we actually DO need government. It is NOT the problem.” Then they’ll show the far right the door.
I apologise for for any presumptions John. I’m not prone to calling people names unless they deserve it and I appear to have been a bit fast in my judgement of your viewpoint. Sorry.
I think we both agree America is better of with government “closed” unfortunately the criminal cartel in DC still get paid, the IRS/DHS/ATF/TSA are still shaking down the population and the kleptocratic crony corporatist system continues onward to collapse. I agree congress focuses on diversionary/illusionary issues while the elephant in the room is debt, productivity and insolvency. Too bad congress was not fired, government dissolved and a new people’s continental congress convened to set up a new free republic as per the constitution.
I guess I was just a little puzzled by your seeming support for “socialism” (a system which has never been implemented as advertised and always decays to a kleptocracy just as a corrupt corporatist system does). FYI I’m not a partisan and the closest my personal political views could be described as is “practical libertarian.” My issue with so-called left leaning parties, or any other political party in the current governing structures, is that they amount to nothing more than gangs engaging in turf wars over confiscated property and productivity from the public. IMHO almost all current governing systems are dysfunctional because they do not serve the best interests of the individual, let alone protect their rights, freedoms and property – so I have little good to say about government regardless what name brand the current party running it has.
John, I know you’re a troll and not at all interested in little things like facts and reality but do ask yourself this: is a cash-strapped country with a population 314 million people able to have and afford a nationalised health service? Who gets treatments when there are no funds or doctors?
Obama specifically picked it.
Its what he thinks of the American people. Yet they beg for more abuse from this Muslim fake.
Dear John at what cost. # times more yet 30,000,000 will still be left out. By the way seen how socialised medicine works here lately or any where else. Its a disaster. The waiting lists, free abortion , Euthanasia undercover. Having to wait 12 hours in an emergency room. Or 7 hours at a clinic. People dying from lack of surgeons. Operations taking years to get. More than 3/4 of any provincial budget forced into health care. Works real well eh John.
Oh yeah working real swell.Yet where aces compared to other Nations under this leftist immense of waste.More funds going to medical directors with legions of endlessly overpaid bureaucrats.
More money to paper pushers than medical machinery.
Your idea of paradise eh John?
Wonkblog Can’t Find Anybody Who Has Signed Up for Obamacare on Healthcare.gov
The Washington Post’s Wonkblog is snarking a little about the lack of successful federal Obamacare signups. Under a picture of a unicorn, Sarah Kliff writes:
http://m.nationalreview.com/corner/360291/wonkblog-cant-find-anybody-who-has-signed-obamacare-healthcaregov-charles-c-w-cooke
“The waiting lists, free abortion , Euthanasia undercover. Having to wait 12 hours in an emergency room. Or 7 hours at a clinic.”
Horsesh!t.
I don’t know where you live, but I’ve never waited 12 hours in an emergency room in my life. And never 7 hours at a clinic.
The US spends $8500 per person compared to Canada, which spends $4522 annually. They spend 17.7% of their GDP, whereas we spend 11.2%
You want to eliminate those line ups? If we paid a bit more, they’d be gone. And we’d still be paying less than the Americans. How you can possibly look at their system and think it’s a model of efficiency and mercy is beyond reason.
“I’ve never waited 12 hours in an emergency room in my life. And never 7 hours at a clinic.” – said the troll.
A close friend had a triple by-pass in late August. Then, because he wasn’t stable in the ICU following surgery, he was opened up again. Once back home, his recovery was going more poorly than anticipated – despite the fact that his wife was one of the most highly respected head nurses in this city, who after 40 years experience, knows as much about recovery as many physicians.
He had to go to emergency because no internist was available. How long before he was seen and treated? Seven hours.
I saw this bumper sticker on a commercial vehicle:
“How’s My Driving? 1-800-EAT-SH!T”
