The Justice for Fort Hood Heroes Act, introduced Friday, would ensure that the victims of the Fort Hood attack receive the same benefits as Purple Heart recipients, including combat-related special compensation.
The attack left 13 dead and more than 30 injured.
Many of the Fort Hood victims say they’ve been denied Purple Hearts, as well as some financial and medical benefits due to the military’s refusal to categorize the massacre as an act of terrorism, instead discussing it as “workplace violence.”
And in case there were lingering doubts;
I, Nidal Malik Hasan, am compelled to renounce any oaths of allegiances that require me to support/defend (any – sic) man made constitution (like the constitution of the United States) over the commandments mandated in Islam … I therefore formally renounce my oath of office … this includes my oath of U.S. citizenship.”

Work Place Violence vs Terrorist….. well it’s both or maybe neither. Was his OBJECTIVE to create terror or was his objective to kill his coworkers? I say it was perhaps a little of column A but mostly it was column B. In his twisted mind, I don’t believe he thought he was a terrorist as much as he thought he was (as it were) a messenger from Allah, slaying Allah’s enemies. Anyone making the same declaration as Hasan and acting on it should be considered an enemy combatant bringing the theatre of war with them and therefor unprotected by the Geneva Convention or US citizenship. This would result in a summary military execution for Hasan with the same outcome under something along the lines of espionage for the surviving Boston Marathon bomber. The word “terrorism” should disappear from use. What this would mean for Obama is anyone’s guess.

Dustoff – if you don’t believe that there was a combat situation the night Nidal opened fire then you must be in Obama’s camp that it was mere workplace violence. Try telling that to those who traded gun fire with Nidal that night.
I am a retired Army Surgeon. In April of 1986, I was stationed at the 2nd General Hospital in Landstuhl, W. Germany. I know for a fact that some of the victims of the bombing were awarded the Purple Heart(http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=861&dat=19860530&id=WY1dAAAAIBAJ&sjid=a1wNAAAAIBAJ&pg=3441,8638259). This was entirely appropriate. However, they were injured while off duty and in an entertainment establishment. The Fort Hood victims were on duty and preparing to deploy overseas to a combat zone.
It is abominable that the US Army refuses to recognize the Fort Hood victims the way it recognized the LaBelle Disco victims.
I add, if the US Army continues to pay Nadal Hasan any Physician Bonus pays, that would be absolutely an outrage.
