A survey of 10 major Washington, D.C.-area homebuilders found that six no longer use the term “master” in their floor plans to describe the largest bedroom in the house. They have replaced it with “owner’s suite” or “owner’s bedroom” or, in one case, “mastre bedroom.”
Why? In large part for exactly the reason you would think: “Master” has connotation problems, in gender (it skews toward male) and race (the slave-master).

Yet another astounding display of stupidity. Does this mean the end of the SPI communication protocol in digital electronics? Right now everyone who works with it understands that there is a master and numerous slave devices. The master is generally the MCU which initiates all data transfers. Will this fast protocol be relegated to obscurity for reasons of political correctness?
I’m sure there’s a thesis or two in one of the totally useless high cost university courses in thrashing primarily white male geeks who digitally oppress slave devices in their designs. If it means that the politically correct will ditch their cell phones and computers as a result of this oppression, then the world will truly be a better place.

The sniping at the term “Master’s degree” has gone on for years in our universities (where most faculty members in certain departments have nothing better to do), along with terms like “mastery learning” etc.
Having looked at some homes in newer suburban developments, it seemed to me that the term “monster bedroom” was more appropriate. Hmmm …. how about “a Monster’s degree in Women’s and Gender Studies”?

What are we now going to call a Master Cylinder in a car? We will have to recall and re-write every repair and parts manual in existence. Even worse, in some applications, there are not only Master Cylinders, but Slave Cylinders as well!

What about me? I’m still waiting for them to take the gender bias out of French. If English speakers are racist/sexist for using ordinary English the French are obscenely and brutally sexist for giving a gender to each and every noun. We feel free to bastardize English on a whim, let’s have a go at French.

I guess the reason that the SPI protocol hasn’t been targeted yet is that digital design is almost exclusively inhabited by white male geeks who have no time to waste on crap such as “political correctness”. Numerous bus protocols are based on a master slave relationship and I guess that if we ever get moonbats looking into this area we can protect the protocols as being sexual dominance games between the devices. Given that moonbats also believe that sexual preference is sancrosanct then they would be left with an insolvable dilemma. Likely would be the subject of numerous masters theses and intellectual debate with the net effect that chipheads would be left alone to name entities in communication protocols what they wished. Given that women hate digital electronics and that digital design is a meritocracy that excludes the stupid, I think this one field of “male privelage” is safe for the indefinite future.
This is just another example of folks with too much time on their hands, trying to change the world. It’s like most of the house buying or DIY television programs, almost every fourth “couple” featured in the episode are (insert whatever term is in vogue) gay, a minority or both.
