  1. Somebady wasn’t paying attention….
Rather than fading away…legal offence has expanded into hurt feelings…..pursued in Human Rights Tribunals….

  2. Ironically, bring back dueling would have the P.C. crowd cowed into behaving in a civilized manner.
And of course, since they are largely incompetent with anything heavier than a iPhone… Natural Selection would favour the traditional Canada or as the late Charlton Heston once asked:
“Is this the Canada, carved out of the wilderness by men and women of uncommon valor?”

  3. Is this the Canada, carved out of the wilderness by men and women of uncommon valor?”
No,they’re long dead. This is the Canada where political correctness is enforced by a government department that even Kim-Jong-Un would envy.
Wasn’t that a type of duel between Brazeau and Trudeau? The Conservative lost.
While we redneck types might imagine a duel as being held with pistols at ten paces, the liberals would demand a duel with fencing weapons, foil or epee, which they could take lessons in at their favorite gym in Toronto after office hours, with instruction by top Olympic fencers.
    We’d be slaughtered.

  4. The thing with learning how to fence from the YMCA or equivalent…is that you learn all the rules that go along with it. For example, grabbing your opponent’s sword and then ramming yours into him/her is verboten in fencing. Furthermore, you’re taught depending on the blade with which you fence that certain parts of the body are not targets. So anybody, who actually takes lessons limits himself to the strictures of the sport. By the way, I picked up fencing when I entered RMC and rose to 9th in Ontario by my second year–because I did stuff that my opponents didn’t expect. Had I continued until I was in 4th year who knows where I could have ended up.

  5. This is true dmorris, I have seen it time and time again – civilized people are polite and compassionate – they ‘do onto others as (ye) they would have done onto themselves’ – they do not rationalize that the ilk that they are dealing with do not have such scruples; therefore should not be treated with consideration or compassion. All commies cow decent people with the very decency that kind, civilized, Christian values instil in individuals.
Treat bamarama with the same cordial response that msm treated Dr. Paul with – demean him, ignore him, call him mentally incompetent and a closet racist (all true in the former, all false in the latter) make the ‘assumed’ fool irrelevant: ie not part of the grown up conversations, go after his camp followers not him. Same up here in Canada with the whining quebekers, the blocista dippers and the stinking little turdo two too. Leave no derision off the radar; as the man in this article suggests:
“Fight fire with fire” and don’t take a speech to a kindergarden party.

One of the virtues of certain MENA nations is that dueling is a practice.
The YMCA trained fencers end up getting carried away when the tools of choice are sabres….a man’s weapon.
    Engarde…….

  7. If challenged,I intend to use the traditional Scottish weapon against the effete fencer, the 30-06 with a 180 gr silvertip.
I’m too damned old to learn that swishy sword/ballet stuff.

  8. My YMCA doesn’t have a fencing program, but I have been a member of the Ajax Fencing club (town of Ajax) for about 5 years now. Its a great sport. Its lots of fun and can be very physically demanding if you let it. Of of our coaches is a past Canadian Olympic team member and another was the coach who got her there. They have a really good children’s program which my young son will be joining next year. There are lots of good reasons to be a fencer. It keeps this middle aged man fit, its a lot cheaper than hockey and suits the temperament of someone who has never been a team player, and if we do go back to duelling I should have a bit of an edge!! I am also prepared to duel with a pistol if I have to.

  9. Nope.
    Will not work.
The problem is that dueling requires both parties to share the same values and mores and for society to too.
For better or worse none of the above is true
i.e. You CAN always decline to fight a duel. Not show up, whatever, traditionally that meant one of two things
    1. The challenger was beneath notice. e.g. Joe Labourer could not normally challenge the Duke of Wildcard on anything. Heck, you basically had to be in the same social class to even have a duel.
    2. The decliner was otracized – no more social invitation to the regimental mess dinners, dances, etc… you might as well die because socially you were DONE, a coward with no prospects and no life, unless you managed to redeem yourself.
In todays world, I would not accept the president of the USA offer to duel because frankly, I consider him beneath contempt, and frankly nothing would happen to anyone who declined.
Dueling was an extra-legal way of settling scores between gentlemen.
I’ve heard an anecdote that in early Victorian times that dueling was still legal, and some idiot challenged his BANK officer to duel to solve a loan repayment issue based on some ancient law still on the books (the borrower did not want to pay back), in full legal form he was waiting the park in full armour on the appointed time, so legally the bank forfeited…
Also the anecdote continues the repeal of that law set a land-speed record getting through parliament. Duel was at 5pm, the law was on Vickys breakfast table for signing the next morning before the start of business. Parliamentary quorum have been achieved during the night with MP’s being dragged out bed, the Opera, trains, kidnapped out of dinner parties, etc…
No ideas if this is true, but it’s a great story.

  10. Forget duel, straight to open carry, it is a safety issue, if it saves just one life it is justified.
For the facts are with me.
    Crazy people roam amongst us.
Some crazy people intend us harm.
    Harm will occur in seconds.
When seconds count the police are minutes away.
Police are on the record, they can not protect us and will choose not to enforce the law at whim.
And this culture is idiotically “safety first”.
So safety first pack a pistol.

  11. The right will keep losing support if it keeps this line of wackiness. Shooting/impaling somebody to death over insulting remarks. “Yeah, cool dude! Great idea!”
I understand the frustration with your nuisance suits. But, dueling has no place in a civilized society.
