Responding to a question about immigration, President Barack Obama made a stunning remark:
“This is something I’ve struggled with throughout my presidency,” said Obama. “The problem is that I’m the president of the United States, I’m not the emperor of the United States.”

Its a problem that he’ll rectify shortly.
But he acts like it.
Wonder if he will be remembered in history as “The Executive Order” president?
The “emperor” hasn’t a clue on what it means to be a king, act like a king or how to treat his royal subjects. He is a distraught and confused man who is only following orders.
He repulses me at a deep reactionary level.
That’s not a problem, that’s the saving grace of the American political system. The President can only execute the laws enacted by the House of Representatives (the people) and the Senate (the States prior to the 17th amendment). The president is the highest public servant.
Obama was a “constitutional lecturer’ and he doesn’t understand why the Founding Fathers so carefully crafted the Constitution? It was to protect the USA from empty-headed ideologues like him, should the people be foolish enough to vote for them.
“…I’m not the emperor of the United States.”
Humility? Or disappointment?
The Emperor has no qualms…
For the Zero that is a problem, apparently with all his knowledge of the US constitution, he has taken 4 years to figure that out.
Well that explains his weird style of leadership, don’t it?
“I am not the emperor”
Hmmm….I’m not too sure.
Al, the Republic is not safe if the people throw it away. The Constitution can’t enforce itself.
I don’t know anything about emperor but the American voter sure could have used more caveat emptor before they re-elected their current president.
And he still isn’t wearing any clothes.
Sorry the tape skipped a bit the actual wording was. “The problem is that I’m the president of the United States, I’m not the emperor of the United States.” “YET”
The problem is that he thinks that a problem.
To use the software cliche – it not a bug – it’s a feature.
Good point Mamba. Too may Americans are unaware of what the Emperor is doing, advancing his agenda through regulation rather than legislation, executive orders, recess appointments when Congress isn’t in recess, hasn’t proposed a budget in three years…but he’s hip.
Has anyone broken the news to Michelle?
The problem is that he thinks that’s a problem.
True words Gord.
So, he’s finally figured that out?
Or, has he?
He could have fooled me.

The PROBLEM IS THAT I’M NOT THE EMPEROR OF THE UNITED STATES. What’s to translate?
But,there is undoubtedly a good percentage of the U.S. citizens who wish he WAS the Emperor of the U.S.
In the movie,”The Last Emperor”, the child Emperor of China had a servant who checked his defecations every day to see if he was having any bowel or digestion problems.
When they advertise to fill that position for the First American Emperor, I wonder which one of the MSM will get the job. I know hundreds will apply.
Chris Mathews has to be the favorite…
You may want to check on how many executive orders the “Emperor” has signed……sigh
“It is a great advantage to a president, and a major source of safety to the country, for him to know he is not a great man.”
Calvin Coolidge
Like fun he doesn’t believe he is the new King George. His attempts at being the common man are so laughably bad. He has such a disdain for anyone who is not him. Why people fawn over him like schoolgirls just baffles the hell out of me.
Cool and charisma is the new Guts and gravitas…sadly.
What next “Obama Augustus Caesar”?

Is anyone old enough to remember “Trudeaumania?”
I remember 1968. 3000 souls rushed down to Sault Ste Marie’s Clergue Park. Like a rock star was coming. It was beyond anything I had seen for any political figure. They knew absolutely nothing about him. Ex WW2 veterans whose utter and complete contempt knew no bounds for “zombies” were also enthralled. For Trudeau never served, nor did he want to. He got a pass.
Off topic for which | apologise….. but we have seen this stuff all before. “Just watch me”.
I don’t think he’s cool or charismatic. We’ve seen him be petty and buckle under pressure (re: 2012 debates). All he needs is fawning masses. If he didn’t have that, how secure would he feel?
I don’t think he’s CorC either…his handlers think he is though…As for insecurity…he telegraphs it.
Peter (Lock City) has a point as far as it goes…different times. The peons have a voice now.
Well, if van Jones and Alinsky get their way he will be the First Secretary.
Yes siree! Definitely a constitutional law PROFESSOR and a former editor of the Harvard Law Review. A REAL conundrum: the insight into the complexities is truly profound, don’t you think? Almost as profound as Justin’s insight into the long-gun registry — he was in favour of it before he was against it before he was in favour of it.
Here’s an idea: if he’s so confused about whether or not he’s the emperor, why not, in the interests of democracy, capitalism, human rights and the rule of law, just have the United States rejoin the BE, where we don’t have an emperor (haven’t since 1947, if memory serves) — just a constitutional monarchy, with parliamentary democracy.
Just trying to help him simplify the issues involved! Wouldn’t want him to lead the US off track or anything…
Touche’…
“…Ex WW2 veterans whose utter and complete contempt knew no bounds for “zombies” were also enthralled (by Trudeau the Elder)…”
Not my Old Man. To his dying day he referred to Trudeau as “that yellow, #@$%^&g, fruit”.
Not my Dad either, Jamie MacMaster – my dad called the Quebec PET ‘Turdo’ or ‘the french fruit cake’, depending on the audience. Turdo was one mean, evil, spiteful little boy/man. His kid is his just like his papa, IMO.
“I’m not the Emperor of the United States.”
No, he’s not. Norton had more sense.
Emperors don’t need Birth Certificates either.
I enjoyed the cordial comments on my off topic post. What had brought in on was a distant memory of a plea. This was to “our American Friends” it may have been here, but I am not sure. It was to not make the mistake of electing a man on charisma. Absolutely none or little about his past or his mentors. Pierre Trudeau was used as an example. Later papers of a young Trudeau prove some very disquieting things about the man. I would point to “Dreams From My Father” by Barack Obama. Available at my public library. Though some say a Bill Ayres wrote it, if Barack Obama reflects what is is within, one can only pray for the Republic.
I note mention by EdwardM at 12:53am. This of the Emperor Norton. I found out more and that this man was born in England. Swaggered about a California city in a sort of military uniform. He was an icon of sorts. Got a lot of free lunches. I believe he died over 130 years ago. Sure beats being a drifter in that era. Robert Service of “Ballads of the Yukon” fame, had quite a hard time when he drifted to sunny California. Poverty was rife.
