Thanks for putting up the link to the debate. Enough gun owners showed up to
give them trouble at the CBC and wreck their polls.
You might be interested in these screenshots when Wendy Cukier deviated from
her usual script and got honest. She was asked by someone why she was
“against women being able to defend themselves” and she replied “I don’t think anyone should defend themselves”.
It is a hypocritical answer especially since they have the infamous cyclist
killer Michael Bryant working for the Coalition for Gun Control now.
However it also betrays her true motives as it is the retort of a person who
is trying to politically dominate by levering buzzwords such as pacifism,
and selling out victims instead of having a fair political argument based on
reality.
The sad thing about this, is that a fool like her with no credibility would get any attention at all.
Speaks volumes about her supporters and devotees.
What bothers me the most is the response of my fellow gun enthusiasts to idiocy like this. It gets worse the closer you get to Morontario too. Ferezample: the idiots on Canadian Gunnutz would regard stuff like this as provacative and disprespectful. They would get up on their high horses and lecture us about how we are obligated to discuss and compromise with idiots like Cukier, and how we must educate them about guns. And of course – they will be the voice of the gun owner! Never mind the fact that most of those guys that run that dipchit forum can’t read or write beyond the 7th grade level…
Dudes – these dummies are uneducable f-tards! They oppose the death penalty; they coddle criminals, they let them out early on the flimsiest technicality, they encourage abortion, single parent families, homosexuality, trannies – and then blame guns for high crime rates, suicides, and many other social ills that they and their asnine liberal ideologies and culture are responsible for!

The ultimate threat to central planners is competition thus the abhorrence for and aggressive punishment of self-defense or self-anything for that matter. God forbid members of society should see the incompetence of their putative protectors/masters, and start taking back power for themselves. Next, they might start thinking for themselves, and who knows where that might lead?

Its been verified many times that the Ryerson gang, the Toronto Police, and various other groups, try to slant the debate on that site.
The truth is, Kookier is a dedicated leftard, feminazi, who’s using the gun control meme as a stepping block to other things, Frankly I believe she could ‘t care less about women, the citizens of the country nor the overall health of the nation, her goals have been the emasculation of the people, the death, rapes, or injury of the ‘ordinary’ people are simply convenient data sets to further her cause.
Taken that she was instrumental in essentially banning all forms of self defense, I rather expect she is happy when someone is assaulted or murdered with a firearm, it helps the cause ‘ don’t -cha-know.
Cukier undoubtedly means OTHER people shouldn’t be allowed to defend themselves. If someone ever burst Cukier’s safe little bubble and she was mugged or raped, she’d have an armed bodyguard the next day.

I think GunNutz deserves much credit for getting the message through on that debate. I am a member there and post actively. Calling the GunNutz people “idiots” is bizarre. They are aware more than anyone of Cukier’s agenda. She is the most despised person there, with Ron Charach a distant second. No one there was trying to educate her. They were trying, successfully it seems, to expose the shallowness of her argument.
Gunnutz has >100,000 members, and dozens join every day. It is one of the biggest online forums in Canada. Of course with so many members there will be some wingnuts, and it is undoubtedly infiltrated by the RCMP and anti-gunners, but they are vastly outnumbered by real Canadian gun owners who are law abiding and want to enjoy their hobby and their freedom without harassment from people like Cukier.
Gunnutz may be the single most effective unified force fighting for Canadian gun rights. The recent ATT fuss in Ontario feature prominently in disucssion every day, and members show up to support people fighting for gun rights. Whenever there is an abuse of gun rights, it comes up quickly on the forums. Thousands of dollars have been raised many times for worthy causes. Mark Holland was defeated in the last federal election largely because of GunNutz members donating time and money.
Every Canadian gun owners who wants to protect their right to own guns and use them legally and appropriately should be a member there. United gun owners can still win against the nanny state socialist forces standing against them.
There is no point in debating people like Cukier. They believe that my right to defend myself is granted to me by government. It is not. I was born with a right to defend myself, no one including Wendy Kookier or the government can take that right from me. Many people don’t like the Americans but a couple of things they sure got right, We the people and, Inalienable rights.

I have to concur with others here who feel this woman has zero credibility. Chukier and her ilk should not be included on any debate regarding crime and justice issues – they had their kick at the cat and they failed miserably.
Chukier was cozy with a scandal-ridden venal government (which had little regard for national sovereignty or individual rights and freedoms). Her influence was directly responsible for a costly useless justice dept. program (with the greatest budget overrun in history) which targeted the wrong people and had demonstrably no net impact on violent crime. In pith and substance CCFG’s agenda was to have government punish and criminalize innocent people for the crimes of madmen and thugs – neurotic unhinged dystopian reasoning to say the least. Such an unhinged civilly unjust agenda needed unreasoning emotion and hysteria to sell it and this was provided through some of the most creative statistics cooking and incestuous media disinformation mongering ever seen in the Canadian public narrative. A shameful era in our history.
Her ill-conceived activism resulted in the most contentious, poorly written, misapplication of criminal code law in the nation’s history. A law which saw massive non compliance/civil disobedience, polarized our nation and drove a wedge of distrust between citizens and police which may never be repaired. WHY does anyone give these people any credibility?

I worked with this woman many years ago. Does anyone remember Peter Keating’s original girlfriend from the “Fountainhead”? IIRC, it was Alicia, but I could be wrong. He’s about to elope with her when Dominique calls him and asks him to marry her; Keating abandons Alicia for her. Years later, he finds her tending to r*t*rded children, and she’s a changed, humourless woman whose only passion is her “cause”. Cukier in a nutshell – the woman was as attractive as a cement block and I’m sure she’s been shaped by that.
First of all, let me state that I do not currently own a gun and have never owned a gun but note the word currently. If Wendy wants to present herself in a victim posture that is her prerogative. I am not about to be a victim and depend on the secondary response from police for my defense. However valid that reason is for the ownership of a gun there is an even larger concern and that is the perspective of people like Wendy who believe it is their right to enforce their view on everybody else. The implications and consequences of this perspective follow an inevitable path to tyranny. Any individual who examines the past 150 years can find example after example of this path and the murderous consequences. Wendy needs to understand that for a society to remain free it requires that free people have an inalienable right to self-defense from criminals and tyrannically intentioned people like her.

If you buy one you will be intimate with the cause you rightly expressed which is that we should have access to a firearm if one day we decide we need access to a firearm. Whether it is substinance hunting, self defence, or defence against tyranny.
Lots of people in Katrina never thought they would need a firearm but were lucky they had one hidden away from inheritance or other reasons they had long forgotten.
But also if you own one when the time comes that they want to strip us of yet another right you will be motivated to help us rally in numbers to defend (peacefully but firmly) our Heritage.
I a a pure city person. No contact with guns at all as I grew up. I was a poster at SDA long before I owned a gun. As I got engaged in the conservative online blogs, culture, and approach to life, getting a gun was an obvious next step.
Currently I am a gun owner annd enjoy several firearms sports and shoot at least once a week or two. It’s great fun, good outdoor activity most of the time (some is indoors). My family, a bit hesitant at first, have come on board, with at least one of my children interested in shooting as well.
Highly recommended. Don’t let the media bias influence you. And the more Canadians own guns, the harder it will be to take them away. The USA is a great example of this.

Gunnutz members vary widely, but none have anythink to say to Cukier and their ilk, and I dare say with a few, and often rather suspicious, exception Gunnutz members post very similarly to what people post at SDA. They are 95% conservative supporters, and most would say that Harper is not conservative enough, much as we do here. They span the mix of social conservatism, as do SDA posters.
Gunnutz has more than 100,000 members, and dozens come on every day. It’s one of the biggest forums in Canada. They are politically fairly effective in their disorganized way, and contributed to the loss of Mark Holland with their time and money. They have contribute and continue to contribute many thousands to legal appeals fighting for gun rights.

gunney99, this Robert Penner might not be a relative of Roland Penner, the former NDP Attorney General of Manitoba, would he? If he is, then he is related to Roland’s father who was a member of the Communist Party of Canada in the 1940s. Some Communists try to hide in the NDP Party today also. So it is not surprising that he would be involved with disarming the population. Communists do their work better in a disarmed population as you well know.
This would be nothing new, as there were a few Bolsheviks aka Communists among the Mennonite community in Russia in the early 1900s. On the subject of police, turn your attention to California last week where that ex-cop killed a bunch of cops and then ran. There is some very interesting photography of a blue pickup truck that the cops “apprehended” two completely innocent women who were delivering newspapers.
Take a good look at it and marvel that those poor women survived. Its got more holes than a donut shop.
