Clare v. Cukier

Sheldon Clare of the NFA is debating Wendy Cukier of Coalition for Gun Control on the CBC fifth estate Webinar tonight.

Welcome to our live chat. Tonight’s fifth estate – Crossfire – takes aim at the furious fight over guns in America. Tune in on CBC Television this evening at 9 PM local time (9:30 NT) and share your thoughts on where you stand. We will be joined by guests on both sides of the firing line starting at 8 PM ET.

I wonder if they’ll take questions from the online audience…assuming there is an audience.

  1. Interesting assumption, I suspect it will be another CBC classic, of talking amongst ourselves.
Followed by basking in our shared wisdom.
Got to hand it to CBC, they were so right about the long gun registries effectiveness, so now they want to pontificate about USA 2nd amendment rights?
I would rather watch paint dry.

  2. get ready for a lot of emotional garbage from wendy Kookier
Never could stand her emotional rants and fictional statistics.

  3. denis
Simple Kookier is a militant feminist….it is a gender issue. The only difference between her and Gamil Gharbi….is Gharbi hated women and killed them…Kookier hates men and …….

  4. The left in Canada is desperately trying to import American wedge issues to feed their class warfare designs. If only we had some kind of minority up here that they could easily abuse for such purposes… Wait a minute. Did somebody say Idle No More?

  5. Of course they’ll take questions; as long as the questions are respectful…which means that questions involving facts will not be tolerated

  6. Welcome to CBC’s “All sides of the issues” show.
    Here’s our esteemed panel of commentators-a communist,a socialist,a marxist,a liberal and a progressive.
    Tonights topic-Gun Control

  7. They lost me when they said to “tune in to CBC”.
I make it a point to never tune in to CBC.

  8. robins111; that why it is Sheldon.
Bet they never get around to the school tragedy causes.
    1. In the 1980’s we closed our mental institutions. 100% of all school homicides involve perpetrators who were clinically insane enough to be on prescription medication. It doesn’t work with all patients.
    2. Armed persons in schools works. What happened in Atlanta?? Media silence??

  9. Some advice for those Canadians who think there are too many guns in the hands of US citizens… DON’T GO THERE.
The US doesn’t have a gun problem, it has mental health treatment problem. Canada doesn’t have a gun problem, we have an immigrant/native gang problem.
Time to treat the disease, ’cause treating the symptoms has been shown over and over again to be an epic fail.

  10. Armed persons in schools works.
That’s what the Israelis do, armed people in their airplanes too. No mad shooters , no mad bombers… it works. It works best when they’re plainclothes filling axillary staff positions.
The lefty states will ban guns and accessories, the right states will put armed people in the schools. In a few years we’ll see what works best. If the lefty states choose to cull libtards and their progeny, who am I to complain.

  11. The US doesn’t have a gun problem, it has mental health treatment problem. Canada doesn’t have a gun problem, we have an immigrant/native gang problem.
The US has BOTH mental health treatment problems and immigrant/native gang problems.

  12. I haven’t watched the Crummy Broadcorping Castration in decades and tonight will not be an exception.
I do think that they will screen any questions from either of their viewers to ensure that there is a 3 minute speech ahead of the question and that non of the words are greater than 3 syllables. Wouldn’t want to make this a thinking show.

  13. I was trying to tune out my spouse’s television program. I have my computer in the same room. I can only say it was either CTV or CBC. A Canadian man was agressively questioning someone on the subject of guns. I am certain it was in America. I live just over a mile from the Upper Penninsula of Michigan and it is a hotbed of activity in November for the deer hunting. Very, very low homicide rates with guns.

I see that djb at 8:52 pm has hit the nail on the head. Simply do not go there (America) if one objects to their laws and customs. Now this thought has occured to me so many times and I feel impelled to sally forth.

What if some American came over to Canada and started agressively interviewing Canadians? Questioning their laws and being obtusive. How long would it be before the outrage broke out and calls for some sort of law enforcement to keep tabs would ensure?

I could envisualise the elite young men of the CBC, as throwbacks, clad in an 1812 uniform, then standing on guard for the Dominion. True soldiers all!

  14. A visitor once asked me if I had a gun in the house. I said yes I did. Then they said, “Well I certainly hope it isn’t loaded!” To which I said, “Of course it’s loaded when I’m home; it can’t work without ammunition!”
She then asked, “Are you that afraid of someone evil coming into your house?” My reply was, “No, not at all.
I am not afraid of the house catching fire either, but I have fire extinguishers around, and they are all loaded too, even when I’m not home.”

  15. About 90% of the gun murders in the US involve one or more persons with a criminal record. In nearly all of those cases gangs and drug trafficking is implicated in some way. In almost all of those cases an illegal handgun is the weapon of choice. So called ‘assault rifles’ are used in about 3% of all gun murders, and in about 0.3% of gun murders not involving drug trafficking or people with criminal records. The average law abiding citizen is more likely to be killed by lightning than a bullet from ‘assault rifle’ or high capacity magazine.
Almost all of the killing in America is criminals who don’t obey the law killing other criminals that don’t obey the law.
Nearly all the ‘non-criminal’ ‘mass shootings’ involve people with diagnosed mental health issues, and they’re often operating on a mix of prescribed pharmaceuticals. Almost all of them also come from affluent families with liberal parents. Not many red-neck kids shoot-up schools.
My question would be: “What actions do you recommend to change any of those facts?”

  16. No60, that 3% murder rate is for long guns, not the so called assault rifles.. realistically, the number is quite a bit lower… when lefties use the 3% figure they lump lever action deer rifles into the stat.

  17. What rubbish. And you know what CBC? Butt out. It is none of your business. Just keep your nose out of it. It is not wanted.
I was laughing out loud this morning looking at the drivel coming from California yesterday about their “new” gun laws and upcoming gun “turn in”. If the people of California decide to voluntarily disarm themselves then so be it. It will be light comedy watching the liberals there start dying from roving gangs of criminals.
I have a liberal friend at work that is completely appalled that I own guns and he is of the same vein as the one North of 60 encountered. He has it in his mind that guns are evil and no one should own them. I try to give examples to him, but his logic deflector seems to work wonderfully. He was horrified when I offered to take him to the gun range. The look he gave me was completely hilarious.

  18. The gun related news I saw from California yesterday:

Big Bear Lake Mayor Jay Obernolte said residents were not fearful and that “many of the people here are armed.”
“Is there panic in our community? No, there is no panic. We’re a hearty people in the San Bernardino Mountains,” he said.

  19. You can no more change the minds of those who are anti-gun than you make a purse from a sows ear.
The anti’s are fanatical about their position as we are about ours.
The difference is that we do not attempt to violate the rights of others be exercising our rights, while the anti’s would use any means, including force, to bring about their vision of utopia.
To understand what is means to be free and the bais of rights given to us by our creators, one needs to actually seek knowledge from an institution that was widely called “Rye High” for a well deserved reason.
