  1. Re your tweet, when the 2nd Amendment was written, the word “gun” specifically was NOT used. That word appears NOWHERE in that Amendment. Instead, the word used is “arms”. That word is FAR more inclusive than mere “guns”, including everything from knives, swords, bows and arrows, muskets, rifles, and even cannon! And yes, Mere Citizens DID own cannon at the time of the Revolution. Note carefully Article I Section 8 “grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal”. This is a recognition that Mere Citizens owned armed ships that could be used against an enemy of the nation. Those ships already had cannon that, while not capable of defeating a ship-of-the-line, were more than adequate for battle against most vessels of our potential enemies. The Amendment is NOT an attempt to reserve the right to hunt. Nor is it an attempt to give Mere Citizens the right to defend themselves against the chimps. Instead, it is intended to give this country’s citizens the capability to stand against a Federal or State government that violated its authority, as both Federal and State government have currently done across the land. It is the “bullet box” which is intended for use once the “soap box” and the “ballot box” have ceased to function.
    Are we there yet?

  2. I wonder what reporter spewed the wrong name, in order to be first… without fact checking.
Speaking of names, why should we immortalize the guilty bastard’s name in the fashion of previous abhorant killers. The recent Montreal Anniversary is a glareing example of this stupidity.
The names should fade from history, like a bad stink.

  3. BTW, I’m worried Kate is going to give them ideas. They don’t like either amendment much. (Like I’m kidding.)

  4. You get the feeling with these media feeding frenzies that truthfulness and the good of the nation generally are not the top of their list.
That Lanza kid just lost a brother in the worst possible way. Oh, and his parents. Now he gets to deal with this media sh1t too, because networks gotta fill air time?
Man, I hope the lawsuit makes him rich for life.
BTW, for all the liberals wringing their hands out there today, this incident happened in a liberal town, in a liberal state, due 100% to liberal school policy, liberal self defense policy and liberal mental health policy. You liberals all sowed this wind. For forty years you sowed it. Now you reap the whirlwind.

  5. Right, you stupid f*ck, because kindergarten kids would be alive today if they were pacing heat. The stupidity of the retards on this site boggles the mind. “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” So what “well regulated militia” did this loser belong to? And which one does Mark Matis belong to? Because that;s what the goddam Constitution talks about, not “bullet boxes” in survivalist wet dreams.

  6. According to media reports, the shooter was carrying an assault rifle and two other firearms and was wearing kevlar. I suspect he would have no trouble with Ms. Grundy if she was packing her purse-sized roscoe.

  7. Kitty, can you possibly be stupid enough to think anyone wants to arm little children? Who are you, David Frum?
The Constitution does not say that a citizen must belong to a militia in order to bear arms. Also, I suspect the word has a very negative connotation for you because you’re clearly a hysterical leftist. And I suppose I should point out that, your natural instincts and indoctrination notwithstanding, “well regulated” does not, AFAIK or can imagine, mean government regulated, let alone federally.
BTW, does anyone know if the guy screwed over by CNN is the killer’s brother, or is it just a coincidence of names?

  8. So kitty, in all seriousness, do you not understand that “gun free zone” equals shooting gallery for one guy with a gun?
Is that the environment you want your child to be in, one where they are STRIPPED of any possible protection from armed attack? Deliberately denied protection as public policy mind you, not just accidentally left unprotected because somebody made a mistake.
Because if it is, then you have some serious explaining to do if you want to show why your ideas are better than mine.

  9. Of course ‘Packing heat’ would not have helped these kids, kitty. We all know that once a mad man gets a notion to kill nothing will stop him, amendments be damned. It is a horrible tragedy, the worst display of what a wicked human heart is capable of doing.
But most of us on this site know is that an opportunist socialist state will take full blown advantage of this tragedy, play it to the end, and begin gun control legislation, and start harassing sturdy, caring individuals who might need a gun some day to protect their kids. Outraged hauty politicians will pursue the agenda that ‘the government’ can solve all human woes.
Nothing is further from the truth.
Governments are part of the problem.
We are looking at a bigger picture kitty. You can ignore it if you choose.

  10. Having served in a well-regulated militia, i can tell you there’s a world of difference between real citizen soldiers and Soldier of Fortune magazine subscribers and other nutters, including those who think teachers are capable of taking down a kevlar-wearing psycho who has an assault weapon. Unlike most of you — Kate being an exception — I have fired pistols and assault rifles. I know their capabilities. And those of you who think a school teacher with a gun had a serious chance of stopping this guy have watched far too much TV and should get down to a gun range and learn something.

  11. Good for you kitty…no read mark matis’ comment at top of post. It might help you get the bigger picture.

  12. Oh, Kitty, the stupid things you say!
Facebook and Twitter: a diumvirate of stupidity.
It is reported that the gunman had mental problems. Did not see that coming [sarcasm control now disabled].

  13. Mntis is a fool living in some kind of fantasy world in which he and his ilk will overthrow the US government at some point in time with their squirrel rifles for some real or imagined slights. Well, Mr. Mantis, dream on.

  14. Yea, Kinyobe, because same people murder kindergarten children. We should see these things coming, since there seems to be more of them all the time. Lots of nuts with fantasy lives like Matis’s living in basements and shacks in America, cleaning their guns at least once a week and thinking about their names in the papers.

  15. “I copied and pasted the Second Amendment of the US Constitution exactly as written.”

No doubt, and well done, BTW! I repeat, though, that it does not say that membership in a militia is a requirement of arms ownership. If you know of any instance where this was ever treated as being understood to be the meaning of the law at or shortly after the time of the passage of the Bill of Rights, I’d like to hear it.
“I suspect he would have no trouble with Ms. Grundy if she was packing her purse-sized roscoe.”
Well he certainly had no trouble with her as it was, did he?
Anyway, I’ll stop contributing to your take-over of the thread.

  16. According to media reports, the shooter was carrying an assault rifle and two other firearms and was wearing kevlar.Posted by: Kitty

  17. By the way, as for poor mis-identified Mr. Lanza, I suspect the parents of the little dead and wounded kids and the widower of the principal, who will now have to raise four kids on his own, would say “Cry me a f*cking river. The story’s about our kids and our wives, not some CNN screw-up.”

  18. Never, never, never, never build a MyFaceSpaceBook (whatever) page of any sort. It will never, never, never, never do you any good, and is likely to harm your career and your friendships, and possibly endanger your life.

  19. The brevity and pithiness of Kate’s comments and/or headlines always reminds me that like Dennis Miller and Mark Steyn she can be considered the ‘smartest person in the room’.
    Bravo, Kate.

  20. The rest of my comment was deleted…
A well trained person with a sidearm could easily disable a crazy shooter. Kevlar vests don’t cover the whole body.

  21. Those guns didn’t kill a single person. It was a rotten human being living in a rotten corrupt society. That cancerous rot permeates throughout their society, culture and government, especially at the top. Look no further than that piece of dung of a “bought and paid for” president to see how putrid they’ve become. Then look at their vapid celebrity worshipping fanaticized obsessions. What a pathetic joke the US has become.
Now step aside Lady Gaga and all you other stunt monkeys and make way for America’s newest celebrity because he just stepped out onto the stage.

  22. If we never take the garbage out, it begins to stink up the whole house. Judge Roy Bean had the right idea. Prayers go out to the families and all affected, this is just sick, but it is what liberals and sleazy lawyers and their sick policies have helped bring on, no responsibility or respect for anyone or anything, only rights. Political correctness has emasculated good people into cowering instead of pushing back.

  23. Blame Crash: “Now step aside Lady Gaga and all you other stunt monkeys and make way for America’s newest celebrity because he just stepped out onto the stage.”
Oh yah, now we get another nine day wonder with another nine days of gun grabbing gusto. See kitty above for details.

  24. Okay, one last thing. Does it occur to you, Kitty, that CNN could have gotten Ryan Lanza killed?

  25. As Joyce Malcolm, a history professor, states in a book just published by Harvard University Press, “The argument that today’s National Guardsmen, members of a select militia, would constitute the only persons entitled to keep and bear arms has no historical foundation.” Or as Akhil Amar, Yale law professor, writes in the Yale Law Journal, the “right to keep and bear arms belongs to ‘the people,’ not ‘the states.’ ” He adds, “the people at the core of the Second Amendment are the same people at the heart of the Preamble and the First Amendment, namely citizens.” William Van Alstyne, in the current Duke Law Journal, calls the essential Second Amendment claim advanced by the National Rifle Association “extremely strong.” The advertisement is thus deceptive when it suggests that the argument that the Second Amendment protects individual arms ownership is a “fraud” that no respectable constitutional scholar would endorse. The ad also disappoints me, a liberal professor of constitutional law who worked for the same Dukakis for President campaign that Susan Estrich, one of the ad’s signers, chaired.
Until recently, the use of specious “strict construction” arguments to narrow constitutional rights was the province of right-wing scholars. Now this disease has spread to those on the left. A fidelity to our task as constitutional scholars, and as citizens, requires us to take the entire Constitution seriously, rather than simply picking and choosing those parts we like. GLENN HARLAN REYNOLDS Associate Professor of Law, University of Tennessee Knoxville, May 3, 1994

  26. I wonder if he was singing that America smash hit called “Pumped Up Kicks” while he was stepping onto the American Idol stage.
Go ahead, have a listen and sing along with it on You Tube. It really is a fun and toe tapping song that every mass murdering American would love to death.
Like I said, America is rotten through and through.

  27. Oh, Kitty, your anger AND your ignorance are showing again.
You can dial it down, by the way. Check your irrational hatred of Mark Matis.
It’s not a surprise that every mass killing (read: heavily sensationalised but actually infrequent killing) is the fault of a disturbed mind, not existing gun-control laws. You’re the one who brought up guns in schools, by the way, nothing a rational person looking at this issue would suggest. Nevertheless, the strictest gun-control laws will not prevent this sort of thing from happening again because they do not get to the root of the problem.
But, please, continue being venomous. I’m sure you will.

  28. This is a sad day for the families and the other people of the town of Newtown, CT, and for America, in more ways than one.
Some will use this to further their agenda.

  29. An awful tragedy that touches most of us, in one way or another.

I watched CTV at 11pm this evening. Of course that is their job to give a proper accounting of what appears to be news. The whole segment was devoted to the senseless, mindless slaughter.

Then there was one Tom Walters. I waited and waited and then he moved in and pontificated on the political aspects of the gun ownership business. Oh yes, old Tom then sounded like a sort of pope or elder statesman. He turned the phrases in the usual fashion. He exhorted in a general sense that people can no longer turn away.

If it bleeds, it leads. Thank you CTV, you do not kid all of us.

  30. kitty’s a liberal, Mamba. kitty doesn’t think, she feeeeeels. And right now she feeeeeels its good to HATE conservatives really really hard. Because yet another mental case who wasn’t under supervision (because of liberal policy) walked in to yet another gun-free zone (liberal policy) and killed a bunch of people. All her idols are out there right now reading their pre-writen speeches with fill-in-name-of-victim/town-here slots where their assistants can pencil in the particulars.
In this case I’m slightly familiar with the town that got hit, Newtown is right next to Danbury Connecticut, and I’ve been there a couple times. Nice area, semi-rural, lots of soccer moms and Obama stickers on cars. Fairfield County went 55% Obama in the last election.
Fairfield County CT is one of the richest counties in the entire USA. All the -extremely- rich people from Wall St. have their “primary” residence in Fairfield County, mostly to escape taxes in New York. And by extremely rich I mean the his-and-hers helicopter set. Huge DemocRat donors. Hundreds of millions.
Every imaginable liberal policy and program is available in Fairfield County CT. The schools just “upgraded” their “security precautions” this year with more “protection”, otherwise known as more forms for parents to sign and a couple million more for school boards to misappropriate.
So kitty, its an all-liberal show down there in Newtown. Conservatives are a cowed and mocked minority with no power in public affairs to speak of. You and yours are wearing this one. Looks good on you.
But I’m the crazy one for thinking an armed principal or even an armed rent-a-cop on site would have been a good idea. Because jeeze Phantom you idiot, the principal could go NUTS and KILL somebody… oh, wait.
On the bright side, US gun sales are going to spike hard this weekend, lots more wives and girlfriends are going to receive brand new implements of deeestruction for Christmas this year.

  31. Sensible comment Cam. If the lieberals want seriously mental ill people walking the streets (and they demonstrably do!) then this type of tragedy is going to happen with frequency, last time it was Gabby Gifford who you might say was complicit with the whole lieberal doctrine. This time its some innocent kids and school employees. Society has to get used to the idea that some people need locking away for their own good, their family’s peace of mind, and society’s safety.

  32. As the unions in Michigan tell the governor they will be at his daughters soccer game on the same day as this, as Hollywood constantly pumps out advertising for evil like this cloaked as freedom of speech all while condoning some idiot being locked up for a stupid film that enraged the perpetually enraged, this is a sickness of political correctness and liberal attitudes, and a sick individual. The Phantom nails this one.

  33. With regard to the verbiage of the Constitution, the citizenry are the militia. To further drive the point that the people are the militia, it is prefatory to “the right of the people to keep and bear arms”.
Also in 18th century vernacular “well regulated” meant well equipped and in good order.
Look up the case of the shooting at the Appalachian School of Law to see how things can go differently when these animals are met by good people who are armed.

  34. The shooter is said to have a personality disorder which is distinct from mental illness that can most often be treated successfully.
Personality disorders-anti social personality disorder or, if you prefer, sociopath are genetic or they can be the result of brain trauma. There is also another personality disorder called Intermittent explosive disorder and then their is borderline personality disorder and several others. Although there is a strong genetic component to these disorders, nurture is suspected to also play a role.
Brain scans show the same distinct brain structure in the brains of all sociopaths regardless of whether or not they murder others. Medications can help with impulses in those with personality disorders, but that’s about it. If they are being law abiding good citizens, its for their own selfish reasons.
This is only a partial synopsis of what is known to date about these disorders.
Little to no conscience or empathy is the hallmark of a personality disorder-it’s impossible for them to acquire empathy despite what shows like Dexter want to portray.
Mental illness can be comorbid with a personality disorder.

  35. Norway has the tightest gun laws that can be devised. Never stopped Breverik did it.
Any insaner jerk can get a gun . Penalizing citizens for the actions of the mad is itself half baked, knee jerked stupidity.
The left can afford to be protected by the police or Guards by our taxes. To them the rest of us can hang. This World is heading to-wards Chaos because of you fruit bars. Your insistent in no right or wrong. How does moral relativism fit hear Kitty? How can you even use morals to describe this, when you don’t believe in a right or wrong?
To the left these children where just latter term abortions, if that.
Its like Athiests always blaming God for pain & other woes, using His standards.

  36. Kitty said ” I have fired pistols and assault rifles. I know their capabilities. And those of you who think a school teacher with a gun had a serious chance of stopping this guy have watched far too much TV and should get down to a gun range and learn something.”
Pretty condescending comment which leads me to doubt what you said…Anyway we know that Assault Weapon is a word made up by the Press to denigrate automatic Rifles…Semi auto’s are banned in most states so he probably used a semi auto M4 in .223 caliber. A light caliber really…As far as a teacher or Principal or Custodian goes if they are trained in handgun use then yes they could have taken out the shooter…Kevlar or not. A .357 Magnum revolver or a .45 semi could easily do the job and if not kill him at least take him out…Check the stats Kitty lol..and give your head a shake. There are people on this forum who understand ballistics and use firearms so spare us the BS.

  37. 20 children among 28 killed in Connecticut slaughter..
Anyone else wonder how many times this Autistic/Personality disordered,
young man/child has been told that the world was going to end on 12/21/12.
    I have two Autistic relatives.
And have been called, or called them several times and told them to calm down and not worry about this end of time,
    MSM shit spewing,
    Mayan Calendar, World Ending,
    Bull Shit.
    But don’t forget,
the MSM will never waste a good gun control crisis..
