US-Israeli relations have undeniably deteriorated very badly since Barrack Obama took office, but anyone familiar with Jewish issues in the 20th century events knows that bald-faced denial is not an impossibility but an inevitability. No, DLM, he is inept, full of good intentions but thoroughly inept. There isn’t one single foreign policy matter that hasn’t been a disaster on his watch.
So in this case, his reward for freezing out Israel and cozying up to the PLO is to have Abbas go to the UN to ask for a unilateral declaration of statehood. This will force the US to veto (do you think any Euros, China or Russia want to let BO off the hook on this screwup?), and further reducing US influence in the ME.
BO’s foreign policy blunder was founded on two central errors:
1. ignoring the fact that there is no central PLO government to negotiate with. PLO is in a state of civil war ever since Hamas took over Gaza and threw Fata supporters off hospital rooftops.
2. ignoring the fact that Hamas will not agree to any settlement or agreement Fatah might make.
Compounding all this is the possibility of the Moslem Brotherhood taking control of Egypt and tearing up the treaty with Israel, something which will virtually guarantee a new major Middle East war.
So let’s sum up. BO’s blinding incompetence has:
1. worsened relations with Israel,
2. shown the US to be weak as far as the PLO is concerned,
3. shown the EU that the US is no longer capable of taking the lead in US-PLO relations,
4. effectively voided the Oslo Accords, which everyone except Hamas agreed was the only way forward,
5. demonstrated to Iran just how weak the US is,
6. increased greatly the likelihood of another major Middle East war,
7. decreased US influence with just about every nation in or interested in the Middle East.
He’s undone all of the work of the previous four US Presidents. Bill Clinton must be shaking his head at this amazing display of sheer ineptitude.
Not bad for a day’s work in the modern Oval Office. Even Chiang Kai Shek couldn’t screw things up this badly, this quickly.

The ME policy of Obama is not very good, but also not very different from Bush’s. The idea that Obama is out to destroy Israel is ludicrous he’s just a dumb liberal that’s it. To his credit, he will probably veto the vote on Palestinian statehood at the UN.
This whole discussion of whether Obama is stupid or evil seems to overlook the likeliest explanation: he’s both.
