Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Being as it is by Margaret Wendt, it is hard to say whether she’s for or against. The only answer, home-schooling.
In Jack’s! memory we trust.
“The only answer, home-schooling.”

It’s too late in life for me for me.
However, anyone with a young family today has the option of using the internet as an aide.
Choice like the site at
http://www.khanacademy.org/
would be especially helpful for home schooling families.
I fail to understand how encouraging environmental practices equates to a “cult” or “religion”, and it sure as hell has nothing to do with “demonizing Christianity”. I thought this site was above such blatant sensationalism.
I think Margaret Wente should follow Christie Blatchford and move to the National Post.
Environmental practices unto themselves are not a bad thing.
The complete indoctrination in our schools is.
On the cover of my daughter’s 3rd grade planner there are a bunch of trees with people and animals situated in the trees reading books.
The first pages of the planner are as follows: “Planet Earth is in trouble and needs YOUR help”
“Try to do at least one Green thing every day”.
I’ve explained to my girls the benefits of being conscious of yourselves, others AND your environment, as well as the hypocrisy surrounding that particular message.
It’s an ongoing challenge and I am always encouraging them to have individual thought.
In the words of the immortal George Carlin:
“How can we save the planet when we can’t even save ourselves?”
Margaret Wente appears to be coming back to her senses.
News articles in my local paper have made me aware of the greenwashing going on in our schools. The pressure on kids to conform is not the least bit subtle.
Try that with my kid and here comes a Glasgow Kiss.
Oh, and f— “the planet”. It’s constantly trying to kill us (and doing a damn good job in places like Insidiousness, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Horn of Africa) in case nobody’s noticed.
Um, how did spellcheck work its evil in my browser? that’s “Indonesia”.
Home schooled kids are going to get the best and highest paid jobs, those ecnonut indoctornated children will end up working with retarded adults at recycling depots.
I like to carry my blatant sensationalism around in a plastic baggie just so it doesn’t leak out into the world at large and turn feral.
My sense of boundaries forbids me from allowing environazis to dictate to me how to live my life.
My son got a bad final mark in Secondary IV (Grade 10) Physics because he didn’t answer “correctly” the following question.
If China doubled the number of cars it has in operation, what would be the effect.
He said it would drastically increase air pollution in the cities in China, but the teacher said the answer was the effect on global warming, which of course is very debatable.
religion?
personally I think it’s time we started throwing cariiiiistians to the lions again.
“(Leftists, you have) installed your own cult. Bravo!”
And now that you have pushed Christianity out of our lives, please tell me, can you forgive my sins and promise me eternal life?
So Wente is either growing up or she is banging a conservative? This is the same wizard who in Dec of 08 told Adler when Jack the Dripper and Iggula and Decept were trying to hiJACK Canadam “I just hate Steven Harper” Adler “Why” Wente “I don’t know, all my girlfriends just hate him so I do also”, That is the quality of writers at the Globe, keep her!
Didn’t principals used to answer to the school boards of a community? Are there any local school boards anymore?
Yes self-destructive leftism must be a cult because our nation and it laws and constitution were not constituted as an authoratarian socialist dystopia.
If you want to see where this dystopic left indoctrinating of our children is going look to Britain – http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1348089/30-000-pupils-branded-racist-homophobic-bigots-teachers-nursery.html
“30,000 pupils branded as bigots: Teachers log ‘racist’ and ‘homophobic’ jibes in playground squabbles, even at nursery > More than 10,000 primary school pupils in a single year have been labelled racist or homophobic over minor squabbles.
Even toddlers in nursery classes are being penalised for so-called hate crimes such as using the words ‘white trash’ or ‘gaylord’. Schools are forced to report their language to their language to education authorities, which keep a register of incidents.
This leads to at least 30,000 primary and secondary pupils per year being effectively classed as bigots because of anti-bullying rules.
The school can also at least 30,000 primary and secondary pupils per year being effectively classed as bigots because of anti-bullying rules.
The school can also keep the pupil’s name and ‘offence’ on file. The record can be passed from primaries to secondaries or when a pupil moves between schools at the request of the new head.”
The records can effect the pupils employment in later years
Trust ye not in princes, in the sons of men, in whom there is no salvation.
His spirit shall go forth and he shall return onto the earth. In that day all his thoughts shall perish.
—Psalm 146:3

LOL. Al Gore urged his followers to “profess your beliefs”..As he’s speaking, the palms of his hands meet in prayer mode, but he can’t come to grips with the lack of global submission to his very own, *lucrative* “save the planet” religion. He IS the head honcho and most important guru, doncha know. Suzuki is just an also-ran.
flaunagirl: “Try to do at least one Green thing every day”
Please tell me that the upper case G is your typo and not from the planner. If it is from the planner, the whole green thing has indeed turned into a religion.
However, I do like the idea of ‘trying’ to do something. Nope, haven’t changed to CFLs yet but I’m trying. Haven’t bought any carbon offsets either, but I’m trying. Damn, but I feel good about myself now. Yoda really got it wrong with that whole “Do or do not, there is no try” nonsense.
Teachers inspecting kid’s lunches..???
That is just so wrong in so many ways……
If they want green let me water my blessed lawn!!
As for “green lunches” I try to make sure that my children don’t ingest anything with mold or mildew on it!!
We are quite surrounded by moral imbeciles who wouldn’t know good or evil unless it kicked them in the backside.
I would put these hapless wonders in the same category as my not so friendly Revenue Canada cretins who couldn’t pass a citizenship test.
I call this phenomena “TSD” – Terminal Stupidity Syndrome.
The poor child is not eligible for a prize because the “LUNCH NAZIS” have deemed them politically incorrect.
Meanwhile, the dead on the beaches of Normandy roll over in their graves, realizing they have given their lives for idiots who couldn’t crack a history textbook….
Now I know what they mean when they sing “Oh Vey Canada”
At great expense I have put all my children through private school; because I don’t need them indoctrinated in TSD.
Cheers

If teachers had reading, writing, reasoning and numeracy skills that they could pass on to students, it would be quite enough but when those skills are lacking or institutionally supressed, the default is faith-based enviro-narratives in pabulum form. Rather than graduating with the necessary skills to develop their own thoughts and opinions on such issues, students graduate capable of little more than regurgitating politically correct blather.
When I was growing up “green lunches” referred to that bologna sandwich I forgot in my locker.
J.M. Schneider be damned, the only way to eat it (bologna) was pan fried over a camp fire with baked beans.
Only time anyone inspected my lunch(when were were even allowed to bring a lunch) was during Lent when the Catholic School nuns would try to bust up the black market candy ring.
Just for fun….. send a peanut butter sandwich in a ziplock bag to school.
A grade 3 Molotov cocktail. Bet the school would go to lockdown?
“Leftist Brothers & Sisters Rejoice! You have successfully demonized Christianity and pushed it out of every corner of society.”
Ah, if only that were true …
Yep, and as former Czech President and world-renowned human rights dissident Vaclav Havel warned us a couple years ago: the new environmentalism would be a front for neo-Communism in the West.
Wonder what the environazi’s would have though of my elementary school lunch which was bacon fat sandwiches with ketchup. No ziploc bags back then so it was wrapped in waxed paper. We also used to do things like play with mercury in school; one of my classmates had a large container of the stuff and it was so much fun feeling the heavy liquid in the palm of my hand.
There may be a ray of hope on the horizon – BC teachers are threatening to strike. Hopefully it will be a really long strike. Lack of exposure to moonbats would vastly improve the educational status of BC children. Schools are just statist indoctrination centers and I’m furious that money is extorted from me to pay for them.
Hypocrisy is very much alive and well even here in La-La Land; I haven’t met one single person – not one – in the many years this BS has dominated the public mindset who has done anything more strenuous than sorting their trash for recycling. No electric cars, no carbon offsets, no solar panels – nothing. Not even the self-professed die-hard believers.
Thank God, most of us still put making a living and buying food and paying for our housing and our kids’ education – and yes, going to a movie, taking a nice vacation, and just plain sitting on our butts wastin’ time – above this CRAP.
You guys think this is bad. My daughter’s 5th grade syllabus is normally 2 pages long this year it was 4. Ok I said, pages 1 and 2, the same as last year, pages 3 and 4 were in Spanish. You know, if these kids can’t speak English WTH are they doing in American Schools.
,
You haven’t lived ’til you have seen a husband and wife hippie couple hugging each other and weeping because a hi-hoe was ripping out scrub brush in a fence line. It’s a cult alright. A very disturbed cult.
As for the school lunch box inspection…I’m predicting that if MacLiar gets back in we shall have a “fat” tax on just about all foodstuffs but vegetables. Salt is the new boogey man and might as well tax that to.
@loki – in my district they’ve already started a limited action – they refuse e.g. to provide playground supervision. Because it’s about the children after all.
Powerfactor @ 12:03 PM, You really don’t know what you’re talking about. Gaia worship (= cult/religion) has definitely replaced the worship of the Creator, as described in the Judeo-Christian Bible, in our schools.
In public schools today, you can talk about environmentalism all you want and pray to Gaia/Mother Earth — I was present as a volunteer in my child’s classroom years ago, when over the PA system at the beginning of class, there was a prayer which began, Dear Mother Earth … — but you can’t pray in the name of Jesus. Mother Earth/Gaia trumps the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and has for years.
The irony, of course, is that if you knew your history, Powerfactor, you’d know that pretty much every public educational institution in Canada, from elementary school through university, was founded by either Christians or Jews. They weren’t founded by atheists or agnostics — or any other faith group/s.
A further irony is that while the very faith groups that founded our public schools — for everyone, not just their own members — have had any mention of their faiths banned from schools, other groups — and let’s be perfectly clear, that these other groups are Muslim (a faith which, as far as I know, has never built schools for anyone but their own) — happily take advantage of Canada’s public schools, even making inordinately extravagant and inappropriate demands on their hospitality vis a vis the practice of Islam in our secular system.
The law governing the secular public educational system in Canada disallows the practice of religion. So how come Gaia worship and Islam are permitted?
‘Huge double standard here — there’s definitely been a “demonizing of Christianity” both in our schools and the public square. Wake up, Powerfactor and check out your facts; as they are, they’re pretty weak.
I’m not generally a big fed, but here’s my idea of how to improve education.
1. Make a minimalist federal exams for K-12 grading – old style exams that have right and wrong answers.
2. Make a federal voucher program. When the unions resist, bypass them by federally funding the private school directly while deducting voucher reimbursement totals from federal transfer payments to provinces.
And when the establishment educrats shriek over this fascist plan, point out that Sweden, their oft-cited socialist utopia has basically the same setup.
Very much enjoying the way the troll scum bastard swine filth are back – AND being ignored.
@batb – very accurate. You have explained current leftist dogma to a tee.
The fact that it’s hypocritical and without any merit whatsoever is not an issue to these people and never has been, nor ever will be. They operate in accord with formulas dictated via propaganda and are incapable of original thought.
“The law governing the secular public educational system in Canada disallows the practice of religion. So how come Gaia worship and Islam are permitted?”
Probably because Christians like to sacrifice virgins and drink the blood of young children in secret ceremonies. Just a guess.
Oh come on folks every one knows that during/after first year college/university all the failures and near failures went into ‘education’.
If you’re not smart enough to be a doctor or lawyer or engineer or accountant or plumber then you can be a teacher. The pay is great the hours are wonderful and you never have to upgrade! Check your brains and conservative leanings at the door and you are set for life.
Oh, I get it – Alex is a standup comic. Here’s one he’ll have heard:
Boooooo, you SUCK, man!
Well said, batb. Amen!
batb:
Speak for yourself. Maybe I was lucky for not growing up in hippyville, but my school held prayer every day, and mass every week. Christians really need to stop pretending like we are the ones being persecuted. That is, at least until we lose the privilege of massive taxation concessions, astonishing access to high level politicians, and dedicated school divisions. You make all Christians look bad.
Christians get massive tax concessions? Where does my mom sign up? Seriously, I want to phone her and let her know tonight!
I think you’re missing the point by a non-hippie-country mile Powerfactor. If you’re unaware of the demonization of Christianity (and Judaism, hello) in mainstream Western culture, you must be living so far off the grid you’re transmitting your posts via psychic power. I’m an atheist and see it plain as day.
Are we feeding Baglow/Trollex/Powerfactor again?
Why?
Well, I don’t know this person yet. Claims to be a Christian and appears to despise hippies. That’s usually a good sign. And I have gotten in trouble before for pouncing on people who appeared to be trolls but were honorable and beloved of most of us.
Plus, I wouldn’t want to miss out on those tax loopholes for Christians I’m dying to tell my mom about! She’s been retired for ages and still gets taxed half to death in spite of being as devout as anyone.
Obviously I was referring to tax exemption for churches and organizations, not individuals, although this applies to some religions more than others (coughcoughscientology).
On a related note, they tried to introduce a tax exemption for individuals, but found out that almost every single person somehow turned out to be Christian. (I made this up)
Anybody look at the new Canadian Tire flier advertising the most recent solar panel technology?
$500.00 for the 85 watt version, or $200.00 for the 15 watt version. Just think, you can power a single lightbulb (too weak in wattage to read by without straining your eyes), or an old transistor radio from the ’60’s!
“Christians get massive tax concessions? Where does my mom sign up? Seriously, I want to phone her and let her know tonight!”
Sure. Call her up and tell her to become a priest. Not only does she get tax concessions but, as a special signing-bonus, she gets to rape little boys!
How come the number of comments goes from 39 to 41 and, yet, my comment’s still the last one?
Weird.
@ricardo
Those tend to be used by the RV set, to trickle charge their batteries when they are ‘off grid’.
Very handy and effective, and for the old fart with everything (F350 King Ranch 1-ton, and 35 feet of slider living), it’s one more toy to brag about.
Wow! I just got a blast of new comments after I posted my 8:27 PM comment: That’s 14 comments I hadn’t seen before.
What’s going on?
Powerfactor @ 7:33 PM: Obviously, you went to a Catholic school. I’m talking, I thought obviously, about the public system.
There’s a difference.
Phantom, I didn’t know that Powerfactor was a troll but by his/her obvious ignorance and idiotic comments, I’m now up to scratch. No more responses from me. Mea culpa!
