The Sound Of Silencing Scientists

Via WUWT;

Dr. Tim Ball is widely recognized as one of Canada’s first qualified climate scientists and has long been one of the most prominent skeptics taking a stand on corruption and unethical practices. Two exponents of the global warming scare Ball has targeted, professors Michael Mann and Andrew Weaver, are now suing him for libel.
Many suspect the David Suzuki Foundation is funding Vancouver libel specialist, Roger D. McConchie who is representing both Weaver and Mann against Ball. Suzuki is reported as wanting skeptics like Ball “put in prison.”

Well, so much for Ball’s “Big Oil” funding – these actions put those lies to rest. SLAPP suits aren’t effective on targets with fat bank accounts.
You can donate here. I already have.

  1. Done !!
A donation to the Dr Timothy Ball Legal Defense Fund may very well be the most important donation a Canadian has ever made.
Unless, of course, one does not care if the dupees are overtaken by the dupers.

  2. I wonder how much Canadian tax money is going into this frivolous “gong show”.
Ask Dr. fruit fly about the carbon footprint of his mansion and why he doesn’t live in a low rent apt. if he’s so concerned about the earth.
Al Gore north, that’s all he is.

  3. And Suzuki is being funded by both the CBC and these 36 US Organizations controlled by George Soros. If you look up the Directors of the Suzuki Foundation you will find that CBC has presence on the Board. This ensures that you get to pay for the endless reruns of The Nature of Things by Suzuki and the CBC thus funnels your tax dollars to the “Fruit Fly Pimp”. 4. Done. Now some of this nonsense can hopefully get into open court from discoveries to testimony etc. No weaseling out now.

  5. Let me rephrase the article correctly:
“Dr. Tim Ball is recognized to hold a degree in historical geography with an academic career of having published 4 peer-reviewed papers to his name – none on atmospheric physics and none in the last 11 years – and has long been a prominent skeptic opposing climate change. Two exponents of the global warming Ball has targeted, professors Michael Mann (120 peer-reviewed papers to his name) and Andrew Weaver (183 peer-reviewed papers), are now suing him for libel for alleging criminal fraud.
This author suspects the David Suzuki Foundation is funding Vancouver libel specialist, Roger D. McConchie who is representing both Weaver and Mann against Ball but have no proof of this. This author is reporting that Suzuki wants skeptics like Ball “put in prison” but, again, has no proof of this.”
You can waste your many at [www.drtimball.com]. Kate already has.

  6. Donation has been sent. Hope it helps. Mr Suzuki desperately needs to be brought down a few pegs as do Mann and his cronies.

  7. I’m trying to say that a rich socialist is a
    half-way crook.
Or another way a hypocritical a$$hole.

(ps I’m preaching to the choir)

  8. Michel, just comparing the peer-reviewed-papers–it appears Andrew Weaver is much smarter than Michael Mann.

  9. Michel, please review the “science” of Michael Mann here.
    http://www.realclimategate.org/2011/02/hide-the-decline-2-pictures-for-2000-comments
If you believe this is actual, valid science then defend it. Show me how the “smart” people view it.
For me, anyone who supports this science is too @#$D#d stupid to be allowed to vote, and any politician who does should be in jail for fraud.
Now go wrap your lips around your sweetheart, Lizzie May, or is it David Suzuki?

  10. Done!
Thanks for the heads up on this one Kate.
I can only hope Tim gets enough funds to not only defend himself, but to counter-sue Suezuki.

  11. Hey, he’s made millions on this . Give Suzuki his due.
He took a scam & now bullies real scientists. Not all Pirates like this make it big time.

  12. Done + I sent an Email to the PMO and my MP about it with Tim Ball’s link…I recommend all the SDA folks from coast to coast do the same; let them know we are on to them.
For me, Fruitfly being a regular on CBC makes him a government employee, at least part time.

  13. Is anyone here surprised that the scandal involving of “peer reviewed” papers on Climate “science” is unknown to someone of Michel’s ilk?

“Members of an anti-turbine group were blown away when Perth County council rejected their request for a moratorium on wind farm development.
West & East Perth Against Turbines asked the county to forward a resolution to the provincial government seeking a moratorium on wind turbine projects until a third-party health study has been completed.
Initially, the councillors, sitting in committee, voted in favour of the request in a show of hands. But about 45 minutes later they turned down the idea of a moratorium in a recorded vote.
Only three members of WEPAT delegation were still around at that point. They were dumbfounded by the flip-flop.”

  15. michel @ 3:45 –
    1) – In a lecture at McGill in Feb/08, Suzuki said that politicians who disagree with the “consensus” science should go to jail.
    2) – I wonder how many times Weaver and Mann peer-reviewed each other’s papers?
    3) – Supporting the truth is never a waste of money.

  16. Michel- I’m sure some of M. Mann’s colleagues have read this story, would that make it one of the peer reviewed papers?
    From the Daily Progress:
    By Bryan McKenzie
Two Democratic state senators are proposing to change state law to thwart Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli’s efforts to investigate a former University of Virginia professor’s research on global warming.
The proposed legislation would repeal sections of Virginia law that give the state’s attorney general authority to issue civil investigative demands, similar to subpoenas, to gather documents in relation to a civil investigation conducted by the office.
The bill is in response to efforts by Cuccinelli, a Republican, to investigate possible fraud by former UVa professor Michael Mann in relation to five taxpayer-funded research grants between 1999 and 2005.
The senators, A. Donald McEachin and J. Chapman Petersen, will meet this morning with Del. David J. Toscano, D-Charlottesville, at the Capitol to discuss the legislation.

  17. “Hide the Decline” is a valid point. No one should fudge the numbers, it’s rather questionable to say the least and I thank you for raising the point. I’ll omit a response to your last statement as this is contentious issue.
But yes, thank you for showing me that website and those graphs. I took such an interest in them that it got me interesting in the figure in the second graph in the bottom left corner. The man giving the presentation, I discovered is Richard A. Muller. This led me to his presentation captured on youtube:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BQpciw8suk
It’s compelling stuff! At the end of the video, I’m sure you’re all thinking “what has been the preliminary results of his research?”
Well, I’m glad you asked Marko! Because his research is found at:
    http://berkeleyearth.org/
Donors to his research project include Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation amongst others so, unless you view the Koch Brothers as bleeding heart liberals, I think it’s fair to say that these facts won’t have a liberal bias.
Here’s his testimony to the US Congress:
    http://berkeleyearth.org/Resources/Muller_Testimony_31_March_2011
The preliminary report indicates that “we see a global warming trend that is very similar to that previously reported by the other groups.”
So while I admit, it doesn’t excuse fudging the numbers, it should be noted that this subsequent and independent research has come to the same conclusions as the other scientists.

  18. “The proposed legislation would repeal sections of Virginia law that give the state’s attorney general authority to issue civil investigative demands, similar to subpoenas, to gather documents in relation to a civil investigation conducted by the office.”
So Mann has done work that was paid for with public tax monies, work that is supposed to shape public policy on energy usage, and he is a man of such stellar reputation that government officials can’t get these papers to make sure Mann and his work is clean?
Warmists shouldn’t wonder why there is a trust issue with their conclusions.

  19. Ironically, back in 2006, Tim Ball himself sued U of Lethbridge prof Dan Johnson and the Calgary Herald for libel, claiming that a letter to the editor written by Johnson to the Herald insinuated that Ball had lied about his professional and academic resume.
That suit was dropped, however, after Johnson cited evidence in his own statement of defense showing clearly that Ball had indeed lied about his resume.

  20. You guys raise excellent points regarding wind-turbines and questionable behavior of some scientists as well as some odd statements purportedly said by David Suzuki. The idea that one must either be entirely opposed to Climate Change or be a tree-hugging hippie is extreme and diminishes intelligent debate.
Too bad my previous comment is in queue right now but hopefully it will see the light of day but it is somewhat lengthy so I can imagine Kate removing it but clarified . That being said, one’s distrust for a few figures like Al Gore and David Suzuki shouldn’t be reason to dismiss the science or be open to other opinions. Regardless, I thank you for directing me to alternative news sources.

  21. Ball didn’t damage Mann’s reputation. Mann damaged his own reputation. A scientist knows that when the facts don’t support the theory, it’s the wrong theory. Mann cooked the data which means he was aware he was committing scientific fraud.
Ball helped expose him. He did the rest himself.
I have read there are a lot of people trying to sue Mann but he is being protected from prosecution. Probably from co-conspirators and elected lightweights that do not want the money tree chopped down. bambam and Iggy are still on the money trail.
Got a feeling Suzukis grave will have the same urine smell Trudeau’s did.

  22. Chesterfield – Johnson made allegations in his statement of defence to the suit brought by Ball. The allegations accept that Ball has a Doctorate in Climatology.
Michel – you might take note of this fact too.
He is qualified to have an informed opinion. If Mann, Weaver and Suzuki don’t want him expressing it, that is censorship and using the courts to limit freedom of speach. Seems to be something the state contro advocates want to see more and more of.
By the way, relying on desmogblog as a source of fact is like relying on a speech by Stalin for the true state of the current 5 year plan, it is full of facts and figures – but has no connection to reality whatsoever.

  23. Donation sent and there will be plenty more to come if Dr. Ball needs it. A good, decent and honest man.

  24. Michel at April 8, 2011 4:55 PM:
“The idea that one must either be entirely opposed to Climate Change or be a tree-hugging hippie is extreme and diminishes intelligent debate.”
Who makes that false juxtaposition? You do! BTW, I happen to be a “tree-hugging hippie” who is also “entirely opposed to Climate Change” ideology. To the chagrin of my (ex)wife I even refused to kill spiders in the house because of their importance to the eco-system.
Wrap your “I’m greener than thou” head around that one, Michel.

  25. To the chagrin of my (ex)wife I even refused to kill spiders in the house because of their importance to the eco-system.
I kill’em on principle for just being in my house uninvited.

  26. atric,
So does the guy she’s currently married to. Until he gets sick of her nagging about exterminating all the poor innocent little house-spiders. 😉

  27. To all reading this, please know that ‘Davenport’ is a Serial Liar and Annoying Troll here on SDA. Some think he works at the CBC. Others think he’s just a Liberal Party member. Still others think “he” is actually Heather Mallick in disguise. Whichever the case, rarely will you see a more dishonest, disingenuous half-wit than “him”.

  28. Oz, you cruel beast,
There’s better way: you just pick ’em up and throw ’em in the garden! (Unless you have arachnophobia).
    😉

  29. No, richardo, I have one law for all.
If you enter my home uninvited, you are going to live it out with me.(that includes spiders)
    No recidivism that way.
And I too have hugged trees.

  30. Dr Fruitfly has a TV tongue bath coming up on Saturday 16 April sponsored by Shell Canada, my former gasoline supplier. Think it’s on the NatGeomarxist channel or a similar unwatchable pupil indoctrinator clone.

  31. So Ricardo, I guess she didn’t join in with you when you sang “rinky-dinky spider”.

  32. I was torn between donating to Dr Ball and the Suziekew Foundation, then I thought, wait a minute. ….
Dr Ball is a career climatologist and the other guy is an over the top environmentalist lying A$$HOLE, so I went with Tim.
Donations from all of Kate’s crew here would make the difference for Tim.

  33. I’ve seen the end of this play – it’s both sides calling each other pedophiles.

  34. Davenport 4:43, in his Statement of Defence, Dr. Johnson establishes a requirement for certain academic achievment so as to allow for an informed opinion on ‘Climate Change’.
He goes on to attack Dr. Ball for offering opinion while he lacks those ‘required credentials’. Interestingly, one of the people he rises in defence of, Dr. David Suzuki, is very outspoken on the science of ‘Climate Change’ but he appears not to pass muster wrt Dr.Johnson’s
‘required credentials’. Do we now conclude, that Dr. Suzuki’s pronouncements on ‘Climate Change’ should be ignored by academia and policy makers? Many Canadians have already chosen to ignore Dr. Suzuki’s comments but it is obviously more difficult to do if you are wearing the same team jersey.

  35. “U.S. companies and interest groups involved with climate change hired 2,430 lobbyists just last year [2008], up 300% from five years ago. Fifty of the biggest U.S. electric utilities — including Duke — spent $51 million on lobbyists in just six months.”
Can’t copy the link so it is at this site just below the picture of bambam and Biden with the caption Fore more years.

  36. You can also donate if you go directly to Dr. Ball’s website. If you don’t use Paypal his site also also allows credit card payments and I believe cheques as well. Believe me you’ll find some mighty interersting reading there too if you follow all the links, though it’s revealing and frightening how these fanatics will go after those they fear.

    Good luck with this Tim.

Mann needs to be reminded that MOST real Scientists know that his Prediction (model) of the future of the planets weather will be ultimately determined by Nature.. He predicts absolutly nothing.. It can’t be done without violating all the principles of Science…

  40. House spiders? Great little critters. I loathe
aphids, and with house spiders one doesn’t have any.

Ah yes; and then there is Michael Mann and Penn State. Graham Spanier is the absolute ruler of Penn State
(except for football); little happens that he does not will.
