The Correctional Service of Canada has hired its first female Muslim prison guard who will wear a hijab specially designed for the dangerous institutional setting, QMI Agency has learned.
CSC confirmed the recruit is now on her second week of a nine-week training program in Ontario and will be placed as a guard in a men¹s federal penitentiary when she’s done.
As a correctional officer, she will be permitted to wear gloves and long sleeves to avoid skin-to-skin contact with male offenders in accordance with her religious and cultural practices, but has been told she may be required to remove them if circumstances require it.
“It has required some research on our part to ensure her religious and cultural needs are accommodated within the parameters of our requirements for safety and security of institution and staff,” said CSC national spokesman Graham Andrews.
After processing the recruit’s application, the CSC formed a working group to work out ways to address both the employer’s and the employee’s needs.
A special hijab head covering is being developed that will come off easily if an inmate grabs her, instead of giving the offender physical control.
Efforts are also underway to obtain equipment such as a breathing apparatus that works with the hijab.
CSC and the employee have also established a mutual understanding about physical contact with men, which is prohibited under the Muslim faith.

Mike McCormick, above, has made the best point of all. The real mental derangement here is manifest in the hiring of a woman to guard male prisoners. Here in the States, this has been the practice now for some decades, thanks to the witless interpretation of anti-discrimination laws by our federal courts.
One of my in-laws is a (male) guard in the local county lockup, where they have a handful of women corrections officers. He reports that they are more hindrance than help, as they cannot be left unobserved by the male guards in any situation where they might be attacked by the inmates; the net effect is to reduce the effective strength of the guards on duty.
A society that has become so insane as to pretend no differences exist between men and women stands precious little chance of survival.
Shouldn’t she be escorted AT ALL TIMES by a male relative? Does that mean we have to hire two?

It is getting to be surrealistic. The average muslim who lives in comparitive safety and comfort, yet tries to alter Canadian practices, must smile inwardly.
Yet this kind of thing for minorities is not new. Out West, I understand that some lawbreakers who are native, have been ordained dealt with by their own. This included a healing lodge and also the old native remedy of banishment. I concede that in ancient days this could have worked. For in other societies this was used. But banishment often meant a fate worse than death, thus “beyond the pale”. This was to confine youths to an isolated area for a while.
I read where a native had killed someone and got confined (it was said) to such an area for three years. I do stand to be corrected, if this is an urban legend.

As some have understood the problem began with hiring female guards for male prisons. Thanks to affirmative action, employment equity, diversity or whatever they now call it, the CSC has “targets” which must be met in numbers of women, visible minorities, natives and disabled. Having worked for 16 years for the CSC I have a clear memory of this absurdity. When the women were unable to meet the physical requirements, the answer was to water down the requirements for them. How many times did I see wee little 5’4″ women working as unarmed guards and with whom male guards did not want to work. As they worked paired in teams, the qualified guards knew they could not depend on these women to cover their backs if the prisoners got out of hand. Another safety issue was that due to the male guards feeling obligated to protect the female guards they could not apply their full attention to the issue at hand. Never fear for none of this mattered to Ottawa. Even when the male inmates filed a complaint in court that their privacy was being violated by the female guards observing them nude in the showers and toilets, Ottawa and the court ruled for the women. Yet these same authorities ruled that female prisons must never tolerate the same for female inmates, so no male guards doing the same there.
I have no idea what the present “targets” are but years ago Ottawa had decided that in male maximum prisons the female guards must make up 50%. Keep in mind that the inmates in such prisons are not there for white collar crimes. The top brass must be really celebrating having managed to get both a female and a traditional Muslim in one package. Just wonder if she is also handicapped as another plus.

If physical contact with men is prohibited by her faith and she chooses employment where that contact is sure to happen, then she isn’t a follower of her faith and any accommodations to the faith that she does not follow are not needed.
Not surprising really considering that down east most of the meat (all of the chicken) sold and supplied to our federal prisons is now halal. Got to get the numbers up – staff/prisoners – in the cafeteria.

FYI for Kate: I don’t mean to leave topic, but I haven’t seen mentioned on the blogs that Charles McVety’s TV show has been taken off the air by the CRTC.
Whatever one’s position on McVety he has made reasonable criticism of legislation that allows pre-op trans-sexuals into women’s washrooms (i.e. “women” who still have penises). He has also raised concerns about homosexist sex education for children without parental consent. So the CRTC took McVety off the air, according to last night’s CTV news, with the blessing of anti-religious bigot Marci McDonald whom they interviewed for the piece.
Female prison guards of any race, colour or religion who will go into a male prison community need the kind of balls this lady doesn’t have.

I think it’s obvious that progressives are using Islamism as a wedge issue against the rights of other religious groups especially Christians and Jews in the West, and against basic Western democratic justice in general.
Progressives WANT tension between Muslims and everyone else because they think they can piggyback on Islamism to absolute power for themselves. But the truth is progressives hate religion — all religion — including Islam and they are hoping that we will destroy one another so progressives will rise to the top. We need to inform our Muslim friends that they are being used.
And of course radical Islamists are under the same illusion — they think they can piggyback on the Left to absolute domination. They are both threats to Western democratic freedom.

Females have been Correctional officers and equal officers of the RCMP and other law enforcement bodies for decades.
They never demanded special status and so today – few know females are in all pens and police stations.
