Via WUWT – “speculation that solar cycle 25 has already begun”;
This would be stunning, because it suggests that the sun has skipped a solar cycle (#24) . Researchers, three from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and the other from Marshall Space Flight Center-NASA, have published a paper that suggests this possibility.

Looks like I’ll be going to Catholic mass this morning to pray for all of our (and my) pathetic souls.
I suppose the Global Warmests and enviroMENTALists will blame our 3% of carbon release on this also. It is amazing how this new religion does not want to look at scientific facts or even debate them. If it were true then the oceans would have rose about two meters already. I think they need a life and stop fearmongering like Dr. Fruit-fly.
We’v already succeeded, the past eight years the temp has droped and we better get more carbon into atmosphere so we can warm up Canada.
I am still waiting for the report that Coke and Pepsi are the greatest threat because of carbonated water.
regarding dr fruit fly: did any of other SDA subscribers get huge billboards in your town with said fruit fly’s mug on them last year promoting fluorescent lite bulbs?
I like to point out that they
– do not work with dimmers
– most definitely do not work in a garage at -30
– do not work with illuminated wall switches
– cost more
– do not work in ovens, fridges, shop lites, etc
– look ugly.

The light quality/color is horrible also. I think you could go blind by trying to read with them.
We also use the heat that incandescents give off in the winter. There is no energy saving during cold weather when your furnace is on.
Interesting piece at climaterealists.com that seems to indicate solar activity really does have an effect on cloud cover. It looks like cosmic rays effect the level of aerosol size in the atmosphere which acts as a seeding source for cloud formation. There is a delay in the effect of about 7 days as it takes the aerosols that long to grow in size to the point where they start collecting water vapour. Yet more proof that the sun’s magnetic field controls the earth’s temp.
It is getting harder and harder for the warmist point of view to prevail.

C_G, the fruit fly guy’s mug up on billboards everywhere? What an abuse of the visual senses, esh.
Totally agree about those ugly light bulbs c_g,
– break at the stem, burn out within a few months, won’t work with certain lamp configurations, like the touch ones or where the shade is made for an on the bulb fit.
Really don’t like the harsh fluorescent light effect either.
Won’t buy them again, already replaced them all with the regular ones, which also adds a little heat to our home much appreciated during this cool wet summer.

“Let’s now examine another successful prediction of mine. In March, 2008 at the first Heartland climate conference in New York, I predicted that Solar Cycle 24 would mean that it would not be a good time to be a Canadian wheat farmer. Lo and behold, the Canadian wheat crop is down 20% this year due to a cold spring and dry fields. Story here.
The oceans are losing heat, so the Canadian wheat belt will just get colder and drier as Solar Cycle 24 progresses. As Mark Steyn recently said, anyone under the age of 29 has not experienced global warming. A Dalton Minimum repeat will mean that they will have to wait to the age of 54 odd to experience a warming trend. ”
And yet our Farmers are supposed to ‘fight global warming’ !
Sad state of affairs – when the world is run by crazy people.
Fight Global Warmists!
I read somewhere long ago that the twisty bulbs burn out quickly if the light is not on for about 15 minutes. I have twisty bulbs where the light is on for hours and use incandescent where I need light for short periods of time. Does this make me bi-lumenescent?
I bought a few cases of standard incandescent bulb before they became scarce. I am pretty old so I think I have my lifetime supply.
Go and try to buy some 60 watt bulbs … they are really hard to find and soon will be black market items only.
I have heard that all the twisty bulbs are made in China only. They contain mercury poison.
But it’s the good intentions that matter eh?
My twelve nicely staked tomato plants suddenly died on their stakes – totally died – every last one drooped and died.
My first thought was the missed #24 solar cycle, but on closer examination it was caused by hail and too much rain water ponding and drowning the plants.
However I am still concerned about my newly planted saskatoon berry bushes.
My understanding is that missed solar cycles can cause havoc on new plantings, especially in southern Ontario.
Kate’s Post Topic: solar cycle 25
This new information about the Sun is very interesting, indeed. Proof, if proof were needed, that the Climate Alarmists are ignoring the elephant in the room, which is the fact that, absent the heat from the Sun, we wouldn’t HAVE a climate.
As far as the CFL lamp issue goes. I’ll go on record as opposing a ban on the good old incandescent lamps, but I really don’t have problems with the CFLs. Sure they have mercury in them. A tiny amount, and so do standard tubular fluorescents, and they have had since their introduction in the 1930s. You NEED a little mercury vapor inside the tube in order get the arc discharge started. It’s elemental mercury, which is mostly harmless to living things. Certain mercury salts and organic mercury compounds are toxic, of course, but those aren’t present in CFLs.
Speedy is right in his observation that CFLs are best suited in applications where they remain on for long periods of time. You get the best advantage of energy savings versus higher initial cost in that situation.
I have had some CFLs fail fairly quickly, and others last for years. I believe quality control has been inconsistent, but seems to be improving.
I also expect to see some interesting developments with the use of LEDs for general home illumination.

Anyone know how to exercise the warranty for these squirly bulbs? Everywhere I bought them is willing to take them for disposition, but no one knows where you can get your money back. All have 3 to 7 year warranties. I have gone through around $100.00 worth and have decided to stop throwing them away. Phillips does not return e-mails.
A question for you engineers out there. How much will using there bulbs screw up the power factor for our electric company if everyone switches to them?

I have ideas but may not right solution for problems we see daily in news:such as all areoplane crushes. we need more researcher to spend time to find solution for costly timely to stop and see big picture and solution to problems not only investigate small cases but also how to stop problems before occur and how to stop it not get exceed Such as:
====
Sending people to moon only walk in moon is only waste time and money, tell that Canadian astronaut to used solar system able to like satellite go around world and made some area need heat like Alaska and North pool in Canada to get warmer by building shadow like eye glass rather than do not absorb radiation direct radiation and made energy and heart out of it in specific area, But if we melt the north pool then excess water can be kill people too how about sell water to desert in Middle East and Africa and USA desert too and built new tees by transport water in truck similar transport oil tanker but need to wash container before transfer and sell water
====
===
My suggestion to Pentagon is to rather than spend billion made army aeroplane spend more time to fix all passenger aeroplane instead and Recycle old one and rebuilt new one and use all unnecessary metal used for made bomb to destroy and recycle and use to fix NEW aeroplane need good metal and hired good chemist with metal iron background to give them good mixture or etc. and also watch Y2K may caused all crash in past 5 years we are watching may caused all crushes and sell new aeroplane aboard and export it
====
Trees are burning yearly in Canada and USA we can ask Pentagon to made similar like bomb but not metal and can be hit the trees not animal or house near trees burning and firing when hit the trees those bomb shape gun can burst to water spray to water and chemical freeze and stop fire immediately that area need to research too how to stop fire faster
if they made hold around trees which are start firing and made a hold and then bomb them with water contents not firing device those fire can stop faster, Again need to find aeroplane and devices to stop fire as we can see or direct flood as we see alot on TV recently in USA

Garbage dumping we need to see near Scarborough Ontario smell of garbage is amazing now gathering all garbage and dumping to city dumping in middle of city in Bermondsy and Eglinton is awful
they must used deodorant like dug spray in rug or air freshness to destroy bad odder to spread in all garbage now or people will get more H1 NNNNN99 soon Now they got their money now need specialist in chemistry teach them how to used chemical to soon clean and wash the garbage tanker and when they took garbage they spray remaining too and wash them too, Or think find new way I do not know this area well, Took the smell is important for city
====
Enbridge gas by fixing gas to certain money like 0.28 for 3 years then if you do not sign new contract or even do not cancel of extend too they have right to assign you to 0.48 without you know until bill come and if you argue you will heard black mail you with 0.38 or never let you go to other contractor with lower amount too it proof their lawyer doing illegal
And all Carrier model who faced class law sue over furnace of pay lots of money never warm you enough in winter now we come to energy saving is to have control each room you enter has more hot room and other room stay with lower warm there only in case in winter in Canada your pluming are not burst it proof plumbing in Canada must change to new device why we must put heat in all room when you do not need heat in room you are not in and pay lots of money for it therefore we need plumbing change by Canada cold weather and we need control each room to enter in each room change level of hot high or low like you enter in each room close light and when you leave you close light too it must be happened for energy gas too and you need to have good rate to pay and be fair and some money back for minimum usage because we are leaving in bad country weather we must get compensation for that like people live in Africa must get compensation to accept hot weather too

Finally Honda is facing so many collecting their bad car of having their air bag are not open I can say Honda recently did bad job in computer too and loose money and insurance company are not release they must pay in any car insurance damage to passenger if that person faced accident between 2007 to 2009 that accident must by pay by Honda to disable person or person faced default too.
There you have it. The scientific mind, Islam style.
“In New York, It’s the Summer That Isn’t (where’s the globull warming?)
New York Times ^ | 8/1/2009 | Sam Roberts
It’s a gross, grungy, disgusting summer-in-the-city tradition: the muggy 90-degree day or, worse still, the 99-degree day. But this summer has been conspicuously different in New York City. Not one 99-degree day in Central Park.
Not a single day that the temperature even approached 90. For just the second time in 140 years of record keeping, the temperature failed to reach 90 in either June or July.
The daily average last month was at or below normal every day but two. The temperature broke 80 on 16 days in New York — one more day than in Fairbanks, Alaska. Depending on Friday’s high, this was the second or third coolest June and July recorded in New York.
If August follows the same pattern — and the latest forecast through midmonth predicts that it will — this could be the coolest summer on record….”

Like a watch winding down. Enthropy is speeding up, while the speed of light is going down.
The Sun starts to miss its cycles. If Earths orbit is slowing at a faster rate than normal than where in real trouble.
JMO
The AGWers don’t care about what the Sun is doing; after all, it doesn’t impact the Earth’s climate at all; not so ever; nada, no way does the Sun affect the Earth.
We all know that when there are clouds, it is cooler; the AGWers reckon that there are less clouds when it gets warmer!!!
Cart – horse.
These AGWer sh$$s will not go silently into the night; they will become more virulent and aggressive and hysterical as the evidence mounts that they are just full of B&&&S888.
Al Gore will not be available for comment as he lives in his island paradise with the billions he has made from the scam.
In Canada, in winter, the fact that most of the energy consumed by incandescentsis disspated as heat is immaterial as the heat they give off replace heat otherwise required to be generated by the sheating system

“1989 -”On the one hand, as scientists we are ethically bound to the scientific method, in effect promising to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but – which means that we must include all doubts, the caveats, the ifs, ands and buts. On the other hand, we are not just scientists but human beings as well. And like most people we’d like to see the world a better place, which in this context translates into our working to reduce the risk of potentially disastrous climate change. To do that we need to get some broad based support, to capture the public’s imagination. That, of course, means getting loads of media coverage. So we have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements, and make little mention of any doubts we might have. This “double ethical bind” we frequently find ourselves in cannot be solved by any formula. Each of us has to decide what the right balance is between being effective and being honest. I hope that means being both.” – Stephen Schneider, lead author of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Discover magazine, October 1989

“1998 – No matter if the science [of global warming] is all phony . . . climate change [provides] the greatest opportunity to bring about justice and equality in the world.” —Christine Stewart, Canadian Minister of the Environment, Calgary Herald, 1998
Just wait until all those CFL bulbs burn out and are tossed into the garbage. Who wants to ever so carefully collect them and put them in some storage space in their house until they have enough to make the trip to some safe disposal site to make it worth their time. You can bet your bottom dollar most folks won’t take the time or trouble to to do either.
Our garbage disposal sites will start filling up with them, one household garbage bag at a time. Our garbage disposal workers who have to handle all the bulbs that get tossed into garbage bags and processed in the garbage compacting device on garbage trucks will be dealing with a hazard that is worse than what they now have to deal with every day. Working with garbage at the best of times in unsanitary. When they are exposed to mercury every day, you want to bet there won’t be consequences both in terms of worker safety and environmental hazards?
Never looked at it that way Louise, a few years ago, when they first came out and we purchased about six of them, which 4 promptly burnt out or broke so I threw them in the garbage, as they failed one by one.
I had no idea they weren’t suppose to go into regular garbage. Nothing that I read on the package indicated otherwise.
Well, don’t have many more to worry about now, only a couple of unsued ones. Think I’ll donate them to charity and be done with this toxic bulb business.

Im on it.
if I knew how to post images here there would be a scan of a cash reg receipt for $200 worth of . . . incandescent bulbs of all manner and description.
Sorry for being off topic Kate, but the topic is well, rather depressing. From what I can gather, which isn’t a lot in the technical or scientific areas, looks like the predictions for Cycle 25 might be the weakest on record and it’s just barely starting.
Gone from reading; expect 10 more years of this cooling trend to now “40 years”. And I was really hoping next summer would be back to normal.
Lets hope their as wrong about the sun’s cycles as they are with GW, not to lump all together but I just prefer a warmer summer and a less harsh winter thank you very much.
Do like that site though WUWT, always engrossed in reading it thoroughly when I visit.
The sun has missed a period.
Is she preggies?
Meanwhile, in other news:
Scientists Issue Unprecedented Forecast of Next Sunspot Cycle
This was written back in March 2006 about some fancy model that can predict the start of sunspot cycles.
Well this model was 98% right on the past cycles but 100% wrong on the future one(s) so far.
As seen in WUWT
Apocalypse Tomorrow? Why do today, what you can put off until tomorrow.
Good grief. Any U2 fans here? I just read this at Gates of Vienna:
“In other news, U2 is asking fans to pay an extra fifty cents on concert tickets to offset their carbon footprint when traveling to see the group perform.”
The reason that discussions of the cool weather are not off topic is that increasing scientific evidence points toward a significant impact of the solar cycle on climate.
http://motls.blogspot.com/2009/07/forbush-events-confirm-cosmoclimatology.html
An impact that has long been denied by the warmies who maintained that CO2 warming would overpower all other factors.
I know that understanding the actual science is harder than simply believing what is printed in the newspapers and repeated ad nauseum, even in TV shows, but it is worth the effort.
foobert…I just love it when Mother Nature decides to screw around with any computer predications us pitiful humans come up with. n
Nature has corrected itself for multi millions of years.Now a lightning bolt to a few Goracle/Fruit fly cultists would be justice.
The credence given to the warming hype just keeps getting thinner all the time…… GOOD.
I can hardly wait for appologies and retractions in the MSM.
BTW………… Is it just me or is there just a chance that an alternative explanation is Cycle#24 = DELAYED?
Why jump to the conclusion that a new cycle must be number 25?
