Being that I’m a fan of the Ottawa Senators, I haven’t watched a game this year.
I guess I’ll have to change that tonight…and beer. Lots of beer, it’s been a hellish couple of days of work.
FWIW, Detroit by two. Home teams aren’t losing.
Cheers,
lance

I’m just warming up the ‘que; a couple of pops, a nice steak…go PENS!
Pens in OT. I reserve the right to change that prediction after the game is over, though.
Hey Lance, ever try Pilsner Urquell? Ooooh…
Ottawa fans are somewhat below Leaf fans, perhaps they pine to be Hamilton fans .
I have actually watched the Leafs win the cup.
Should be a good rockem sockem final !
What? hockey is still going? I thought the Oilers finished their season a while back? 🙂
the middle of june is for baseball!
Pens by a field goal, 5-2
EBD the beer or the game?
It’s Coronas for me tonight; I’d highly recommend Creemore Pilsner for anyone in the Eastern/Southern Ontario region.
Welllll, since the Bruins were robbed by the guy who got an automatic one game suspension, then had his automatic one game suspension thrown out by the league, I am taking the Red Wings. I am hoping for a close game, though. Will we see NHL hockey in Hamilton?
If it’s beer we’re discussing, good ol’ Paulaner Hefe is my choice, or maybe something pumped out by Unibroue.
ever try Pilsner Urquell?
Yep, mighty fine stuff.
Got introduced to the stuff in the former Czechslovakia back in the 1980s. The skiing was pretty good too.
Some decent hockey players from there as well.
I’ll go with Detroit tonight as Motown needs an emotional ‘bailout’ after all the GM and Chrysler headaches.
Cheers

Hey the only real Canadian hockey tonite takes place in Manitoba. The Vancouver Canuck’s affiliate Manitoba Moose looks to even the series with the Hersey Bears at 3-3. Go Moose Go!!!!!
Fritz:
Let me guess your drinking Moosehead beer tonight?
Cheers

Lance, you seem to be confused. Detroit is playing Pittsburgh this evening. At the moment, Detroit is ahead 1-0 in the 5th inning.
Hans:
Pilsener Urquell has gotta be the best on the planet. Several years ago I had a Czech friend who got outta there in ’69. He didn’t drink beer but when I gave him a whiff of it, he said it brought back great memories of the Old Country.
Beauty stuff, to be sure.
Hans: Beer and Chocolate – Moosehead beer and Hersey chocolate.
No, no no. Listen to Joel Schroeder, he knows what he’s talking about.
Had a Trois Pistoles last night, but tonight I’m just about to pop open a Schneider Aventinus.
Blanche De Chambly or Maudite are my regular Unibroue picks but they had a great one a few years ago called Raftsmen. A yeasty beer aged in old whiskey oak barrels, better then Innis and Gunn.
Mmmmmmm!
Pen 2 Wings 0 after two. Talbot scored both.
3 – 1 for the Hersey after 2. Its time for Cody Hodgson (next year’s NHL rookie of the year) to crank it up a notch.
Crosby is hurting(those effing homo wings!)
Detroit is doomed in the vehicular league as well as the hockeys.
10 minutes in the third left, and pens 2-0 wings. What is the word that describes Hossa moving from the Pens to the Wings to get a ‘Cup….and lose to the Pens?
Is it bathos, pathos or irony?
Wings get one back!
I find the Detroit redwings are like Tiger Woods. Unlike most superstars, when one roots for the underdog, I just want them to win as they are so good.

Both excellent beers. I prefer the Blanche as La Maudite is very heavy.
Hohoho, very clever, Texan. How ’bout those Dallas All-Stars … if you get me drift?
Well, EBD is closest so far. Detroit gets one in the next 1:17 and it’s OT.
And the mighty Moose have been devoured by the Bear 4-1. Professional hockey is now over for a few months. Next up NHL Draft Friday June 26th in Montreal at 7pm est. The Islanders select…
I don’t really want to bash Canada or North America as a whole, but my feeling is that North American brewmasters simply have no idea how to make a good beer. Products from here are really bland and have no character.
I typically drink European beers, as they are quite bitter and hoppy. North American lagers simply don’t match.
When it comes to heavier fare, I like La Fin du Monde from Unibroue brewery in Quebec.
Being originally Polish, I gravitate to selection from my old country. I recommend Zywiec, Okocim, Lech and Lezajsk. Golden Pheasant from Slovakia (or is it Czech Republic?) is also highly recommended. Other then that, any German lagers are great – Becks is my favourite there.
If we talk about whiskeys, I admit that indeed products from this side of the pond are great. I don’t particularly like all the Scotches.
Well … the right team won … great game … and that comment about Hossa … HA HA HA, can’t stand the guy.
As for Beer … call me trendy … been swilling Bud Light Lime all week … Question… could climate change be responsible for this surplus of limes that suddenly we can add them to all this beer!!! Worth pondering …
Bettman while he was giving the cup to crosbie made mention of the fact that the pittsburgh franchise had only recently been saved from being moved elsewhere. that elsewhere would have been within forty miles of toronto. Thus, tonight could have been the night toronto won a cup since 1967. For toronto maple leaf fans that is the stanley cup – the shiny silver one you saw on TV last night – the closest you will ever get to it.
That is funny Gord Tulk, and I agree… Now the Maple Loafs are owned by the teachers pension fund, you know they reward the bottom line, and not much thought goes into excellence. I laugh in their general direction.
The Pens deserved the cup.
And THAT, my friends, is why I never bet on sport.
Alexb: “I have actually watched the Leafs win the cup.”
Actually anyone can see the Leafs win the cup. Just watch that black and white grainy archive film from 1967. 42 years and counting!
Todd Gill must be having a laugh and enjoying his cup win as he never would have even been in the playoffs with the Toronto Maple Losers.
Didn’t Scotty Bowman move to Chicago this year and they made it to the semis. Is there any chance that the Leafs stink because of their crappy management…naw, just probably a coincidence.
Would love to see Balsillie get a team in Hamilton.
In a one-game contest its anybody’s game. When you look at how long its been since a visiting team won game seven in the final would it not make some sense to think that the home team winning streat would be about to end?
That is the point I made with a buddy of mine a couple of days ago. He was adamant that the Wings would prevail. I simply said that just maybe the time was here to end that streak.
I know that I have one pi$$ed-off son-in-law who is a dyed-in-the-wool Wings fan. He simply cannot come to terms with the fact that Sid the Kid and his gang have snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.
I can’t agree with the choice of MVP. Should have gone to Fleury. Got kicked 5-0 in game 5 but came storming back in games 6 and 7. You can’t win without the kind of goaltending he gave Pittsburg in the last 2 games.
First the Super Bowl!
Now the Stanley Cup and the Calder Cup!
It’s a great day for Pennsylvania!
As a native Nova Scotian, I say good on ya, Sidney. Again. Too bad about the recent election results though.
I say the Pens will take it 2-1.
Right wing prof – don’t forget the phillies won the series this year too (or did I dream that?).
