1. The moisture will be good, but I am really tired of this bad weather. My garden needs to be planted this week and my tomato plants are taking over my living room.
Global warming, what a money grabbing scheme by Gore and Suzuki. Funny how Suzuki has been strangely quiet since Baird talked to him, could he be worried about getting his gravy train taken away?

2. They won’t give up until we change the economy and they can spin up some new fable of having saved the earth … the moment they can point to reduced emissions, this kind of weather will be used to “prove” that “they were right” and that “the drastic measures were necessary.”
It will make for interesting discussions around the campfires of post-civilization.

3. for all the talk of this being from “the grassroots”, I don’t see any grassroots in Yorkton.

WINNIPEG (May 14, 2009) — A winter storm watch has been issued for parts of western Manitoba and the Interlake.
Environment Canada says a low pressure system in Alberta will track across Saskatchewan today and into Manitoba by tonight.
Rain is expected to begin this evening and change to snow overnight, with snow tapering off near midday Friday. Up to 20 centimetres of snow are possible in Dauphin, Roblin, Winnipegosis, Arborg, Hecla, Fisher River, Gypsumville and Ashern.

5. Come on people! It ain’t snow,it’s just frozen CO2 that the eco-fanatics have managed to get out of the atmosphere through their many wonderful ponzi schemes! After all,the fruitfly, goracle et.al. have cooled things down, and saved us all!!Wait….more people die from cold then heat??? Wonder when the firebombings of certain homes are going to start?

6. Estevan – This morning – Freezing hard right down to South Dakota
Actual temps on farm will be 2-3 degrees C colder than airport temps

7. “How dark the con of men”…and…
…”Plus ca change, plus c’est la meme chose” (The more things change, the more they stay the same).
After all these years of personally studying this “science” and more convinced than ever now that it’s pure bunk; at this stage I’m upset at the suckers who STILL adhere to this nonsense more than the snakes that promote it.
Wake up MORONS!

8. Northern Alberta has had snow flurries off and on this week. It is not warm – the wind is cold. If this is Global Warming I want to know what Global Cooling is like. NOT. I have become my mother – I am planting silk plants from China.

9. I won’t bother with the link, but some CBC reporter’s car was caught in a 19″ snowbank and she had to dig her way out. And Southern Ontario’s had single digit overnights lately with a frost warning for Sunday IIRC.

10. The new Sears fall and winter catalogue was in my mailbox yesterday. We’re not done one winter before the next one starts!

11. Global Warming: Science vs computer models
’nuff said.
SCIENTIFIC COMPUTER MODELING METHOD 101
An email from Roy Tucker [gpobs@mindspring.com]
I’m a bit dismayed about how computer models have come to be more important than actual observations and so I offer a formal statement of the Scientific Computer Modeling Method.
The Scientific Method
1. Observe a phenomenon carefully.
2. Develop a hypothesis that possibly explains the phenomenon.
3. Perform a test in an attempt to disprove or invalidate the hypothesis. If the hypothesis is disproven, return to steps 1 and 2.
4. A hypothesis that stubbornly refuses to be invalidated may be correct. Continue testing.
The Scientific Computer Modeling Method
1. Observe a phenomenon carefully.
2. Develop a computer model that mimics the behavior of the phenomenon.
3. Select observations that conform to the model predictions and dismiss observations as of inadequate quality that conflict with the computer model.
4. In instances where all of the observations conflict with the model, “refine” the model with fudge factors to give a better match with pesky facts. Assert that these factors reveal fundamental processes previously unknown in association with the phenomenon. Under no circumstances willingly reveal your complete data sets, methods, or computer codes.
5. Upon achieving a model of incomprehensible complexity that still somewhat resembles the phenomenon, begin to issue to the popular media dire predictions of catastrophe that will occur as far in the future as possible, at least beyond your professional lifetime.
6. Continue to “refine” the model in order to maximize funding and the awarding of Nobel Prizes.
7. Dismiss as unqualified, ignorant, and conspiracy theorists all who offer criticisms of the model.
Repeat steps 3 through 7 indefinitely.

12. Why can’t we just go back to the days when we couldn’t even predict the weather 2 days from now? Never mind we’re still there.

13.
Assert that these factors reveal fundamental processes previously unknown in association with the phenomenon.
Fred,
I have always considered Kirchhoff’s Current Law; “The Current flowing into a point must equal the current flowing away from that point” to be particularly helpful in dismissing the temptation to resort to magic!
Good on You!

14. Gee, could this be why?
phantomsoapbox.blogspot.com/2009/05/science-keeps-settling.html
Seems the deep ocean currents are -different- than everybody has been assuming for 20+ years. Who knew?
But it doesn’t matter, the Science is Settled. Superfly Suzuki said so.

15. And, just this morning while watching the Weather Ch. show Lower Calif. and Las Vegas with record breaking temperatures near 100, and nar a word about Yorkton, Sk.
,

16. But just watch how fast that glacier on the barn’s roof melts! Global warming is about to unleash flooding (or at least make it wet) all over that farm yard. Glaciers never used to melt for Queen V’s BD weekend. Global Warming strikes again!

17. Brrrr … I put a sweater on looking at that Snowy Day in May. Or, maybe it’s just the temp. of 12 degrees here in rainy, downtown Toronto.
Bore and Kooky have lost all credibility.

18. We could solve nearly all our immediate energy and environmental problems in one go, you see the guest list? One Predator Drone and a pair of mavericks and problem solved.(Just joking so do not watch list me)
All these people flew in for the stop everyone from traveling conference. Why can they not have these meeting via teleconference on the web like the suggest for business. The hypocrisy is what undermines these groups and there incestuous rationalizations of paying themselves for their own sins via carbon credits to appear green rather than live green.
This is a conference like any other group of interests getting together, such as OPEC, same thing different product.

19. Actually when I saw the guest list, my thoughts went towards divine intervention…….sulphur and brimstone……asteroid….comet….a Tunguska event…….

20. Fred there is a slight error in your computer modeling method regarding AGW. In this case they started with their conclusion and have done everything they can to get their models to attain that conclusion then disregarded any and all data that may indicate that their conclusion was wrong.
You have heard of push polling? AGW is push science at its best (worst).

21. Stinking windmills are better than “celebrated solar houses”.
Gore’s activism is on display here.
“Bret Rasegnan, planning supervisor for the department, said the solar tours have been removed from the finalized agenda for the summit.”
Irony? Gore froze himself solid.
…-
“Troy’s celebrated solar house left in dark
Facility touted as next big thing still shut
Shawn D. Lewis / The Detroit News
Troy — It was supposed to be a shining example of the green movement — a completely independent solar-powered house with no gas or electrical hookups.
Seven months ago, officials gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the $900,000 house owned by the city of Troy that was to be used as an educational tool and meeting spot.
But it never opened to the public. And it remains closed.
Frozen pipes during the winter caused $16,000 in damage to floors, and city officials aren’t sure when the house at the Troy Community Center will open.
“It’s not safe right now, and there’s no estimated opening time because it depends on when we can get funding,” said Carol Anderson, director of the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.
That surprised the Oakland County Planning and Economic Development Department, which advertised tours of the house for its Tuesday Oakland County Green Summit.
“No, I didn’t know anything about it,” said Steve Huber, spokesman for county planning.
Bret Rasegnan, planning supervisor for the department, said the solar tours have been removed from the finalized agenda for the summit.
“It is disappointing that we can’t tour, but the summit will still be of great value. I don’t think it’s reflective of the technology.””

22. STOP CUTTING ALL THE TREES!!!
No, I’m no tree hugging greeny. I just want to make sure that there’s enough of them left to hang all those snake oil salesmen down the road when food crop yields are low and expensive to buy because the planet cooled off naturally for the coming years and millions in the third world countries will die of starvation because of a colder climate.
Bono and Sean Penn should go after Gore and Suzuki. They actually preach again’st each other ideals.
BTW, hanging is more eco friendly than the electric chair or toxic poisons.
The warming of the last 2 decades have been a God send that we should have been rejoicing and celebrating for. Instead, the scam prophets have sucessfully caused unjustified anxiety, fear and distress onto millions of people’s lives. The worst being the innocent little children being fed crap in school with viewing of junk like “An inconvenient Truth”…

23. 11:08 am in northern Alberta. Temp 10*c. To damn cold to plant garden yet. This is just like 1992, plant garden early, watch the stems rot off at ground level. Lack of moisture and cold winds that year, we planted on the 21 of June and had a good garden. Warm weather went into late fall and all the people who planted early had to either replant or go without. Don’t think I will be planting until 2nd week June. By the way we had 6″ of snow here in the hills 3 days ago, very little run off so the ground is sucking it up.
Old saying ‘april showers brings mays flowers, no rain in april don’t plant until the middle of june.

24. Thank God we warmed the West! This could have been much worse. Save a tree, stop a hurricane.

25. I’m curious as to how much a snowfall like that displayed in the picture near Yorkton would damage barley/oats/wheat/canola that has come up? Or has the weather been so crappy that planting hasn’t even begun yet?
It’s no bed of roses trying to get the crop planted in eastern Ontario…friggin’ cold and hard to get 3 days in a row without rain showers.
Oh well…the leftards won’t be happy til there is nothing to eat but roots anyway. Maybe that time is closer than they think.

26. Climate Crisis???
Look through Kate’s ‘You promised’ link above and you will find the the expression ‘climate crisis’ is repeated 5 times in the main article and is headlined in the link to the TCP site at the bottom of the article.
This is getting to be a regular signature of Big Al and his pals.
It is quite common to get snow up to around May 15 in the Calgary area. It gets a bit annoying at times, but can also be quite pretty. It is only a crisis when it turns into a blizzard.
Snow Hike

27. The Glengarrian:
Here is the email that accompanied the photo:
We woke up to alot of snow this morning. We weren’t even under a heavy snowfall warning!!!! I bet we didn’t get this much snow in December. There will be lots of water in the hay meadow now!!! There will be alot of stuck tractors this spring trying to put the crop in. We have not started seeding yet and this will take awhile to dry out.

28. The question I ask myself all the time is, why the weather has taken on a religious like atmosphere? I mean why are some people so willing to destroy their way of life and democracy over it. There is no part of western life that is not(or can’t be) impacted by a phony weather crisis. I just don’t understand it. I can honestly say in all my years on earth the weather has not changed one iota that I can see.

29. wuberman
just look to the religious BELIEVERS if you want an other example of unjustified/unsubstanciated belief nonsense

30. I used to live in Yorkton. My sister lives there now. I will gloat about the balmy weather we are having outside of Saskatchewan. I’m sure she’ll like that.

31. Holy Snow, Batman!
It looks like the folks at the met office have messed up again!!

32. Peter O’Donnell at May 16, 2009 3:30
It will make for interesting discussions around the campfires of post-civilization.
Get with the progrom, O’Donnell … NO FIRES!!!

33. BTW Kate, why are you posting at 1.25 AM?? Are you lacking a husband … see my earlier offers 🙂

34. a) the blog post are time stamped in the Eastern time zone
b) I have the capacity to schedule posts to auto publish at a later time and date
c) no, I’m not. But a generous offer nonetheless!

35. Here in Ottawa, I’ve had to turn my heat back on … after a three day break 🙁

36. Here in Cayuga Ont. I haven’t turned the heat off yet. Couple warm days so far, but not today. Hard frost last Wednesday.
This is the Golden Horseshoe here, don’t forget. Spring wheat hasn’t even come up yet because its too frackin’ cold and wet.
However my lawn doesn’t seem to have got the message. I have to sharpen the mower tomorrow, grass is growing like triffids. The hay field across the road is shorter.

37. Silly, Kate. How many times do I have to explain this. Okay now, in two simple steps:
1. Localized warm weather events are DEFINITIVE proof of man-made global warming.
2. Localized cold weather events are just … localized cold weather events.
Can’t you knuckle-dragging, neo-con, holocaust-denying neandrathals figure it out?

Fred, step seven is incomplete. You forgot “in the pay of Big Oil™ “.

39. Wuberman said “I mean why are some people so willing to destroy their way of life and democracy over it?”
They aren’t willing to destroy their way of life over this. They are willing to destroy your way of life over this. The only people I know who buy into this assume that they won’t be effected. They all have government jobs (hello teachers) and will get raises that match inflation. Their pensions will match inflation. Or they make enough money that it will be a minor dent in their income. The average working person will be choosing between heat and food. Plus a lot of working people will lose their homes because of taxes rising, electrical bills doubling and gas bills doubling.
The stock market and economy will probably be good because of energy stocks. And who owns them? The people with enough money to buy them and the pension plans. It’s win win for those folks.

40. here in my corner of northern new mexico we’ve had highs comfortably in the 80’s for a couple weeks. I’ll make sure to mention that to my grandmother in Yorkton. Yes, I’m an evil grandchild 🙂
