Reader Tips

Good evening, welcome to the Wednesday edition of SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight we present a song from troubled musical genius Jerry Lee Lewis, whose early music, at least, demonstrated his natural abilities in the essential skill which underlies (real) rock ‘n’ roll’s primal power: the seamless combining of swung and straight rhythms.
Lewis’ parents, members of the Assembly of God church, were devout Pentecosts who believed that “music to dance to from came from the devil,” and that “drinking and carousing with women would send him to hell.” This schism between his upbringing and his music might partially explain why Lewis — who was Jimmy Swaggart’s first cousin — seemed to be his own worst enemy; he often came across in interviews as being defensive and pointlessly arrogant at the same time. In performance, he seemed to be almost crawling out of his skin as he hammered out brilliantly off-timed, jacked beats on the piano and created a primal, prurient din of forward energy invigorated with a sense of can’t-stop-it-now straight-to-hell wrongdoing.
Without further ado, then, here’s Jerry Lee Lewis, a true iconoclast and one of the brilliant few who helped create and nail down rock ‘n’ roll’s distinct and unmistakable fusion of different idioms, in a 1965 performance of Breathless.

Is the president of the United States indeed a narcissist, a condition psychology and psychiatry recognize as a serious personality disorder?
    …..
“I think it’s critically important, now more than ever, to understand our president’s core beliefs and to realize that if we embrace them fully, we’ll be well on our way to becoming the U.S.S.A.,” says Brian Russell, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist, attorney and familiar national television pundit. And according to Lyle H. Rossiter Jr., M.D., a board certified psychiatrist who has diagnosed and treated mental disorders for more than 40 years, it’s not just Obama: America’s leadership ranks are full of people with serious psychological problems, declaring that “the modern liberal mind, its distorted perceptions and its destructive agenda are the product of disturbed personalities.”

  3. Obituary for MSM:
    “the atmosphere of a funeral.”
    …-
    “The news
Dana Milbank at the Washington Post describes Senate hearings at which journalists, both former and current, describe the imminent end of newspapers. It had, Milbank said, the atmosphere of a funeral.
Juxtaposed against the decline of the traditional newspapers were the “parasites”, Google and the Huffington Post being among those mentioned. The insinuation was that the parasites had monetized and distributed the fruit of the labor of the real journalists for a fraction of the cost, essentially stealing revenues from them.
In the coming year the dying newspaper industry will probably explore two tracks in order to survive.
The first and most obvious is for newspapers to acquire some kind of public funding or bailout money to keep providing the “essential service”. But that is unsustainable. The other would be to implement a system of microcharges for each use or citation of original material, regardless of who uses it. In that way, journalists or original news sources could get revenue from any use of their material, whether the user is a “newspaper”, a broadcast network or an online publication or blogger.
The future survival of journalism and punditry is probably dependent on creating this new distribution model to replace the old newspaper and broadcast driven one. Ads will no longer provide the bulk of the revenue. User micro subscriptions and payments will.”

  4. Comment from G&M article about GM bailout.
    Ex-GM employee with another story!
While I was there as a non union represented consultant, I managed a portion of the truck plant. I’m not a truck guy, but I would buy one built from the Oshawa truck plant. They did pride themselves in quality. However…. the abusive nature of one employee stands out in my mind.
He was renowned around the plant for his antics at trying to get out of work. Basically he claimed a “medical condition” that would have basically resigned him as a long term disability (LTD) recipient. I am not a doctor, but it was obvious there was not any inhibiting ailment with him. He had quite the spring in his step when he would run for the gate at the end of the shift. So it was “Management’s” decision to save costs and have him report for duty rather than collect LTD. Well the role they created for him was quite interesting. They pulled a nice comfy chair right up to the assembly line and provided him with a little dust cloth. I KID YOU NOT HERE PEOPLE!!! His job was to hold out his arm as the truck rolled by, and to wipe the tail fender clean of any lint or dust before the application of the “Z-71” and/or “4X4” decal was applied! The irony of this was, it was a brand new truck, and the paint was perfectly clean -flawless actually! Is this where the bailout money goes? To keep leaches like this employed? Needless to say, I was disgusted, and powerless to do anything about it. Everyon’e attitude was, “oh well what’re ya gonna do?”
Ya, I think I made a good choice in resigning.

The leader of GM Canada’s largest union says a filing by the car maker for court protection from creditors is likely.
The federal and Ontario governments have ordered the Canadian Auto Workers and General Motors of Canada Ltd. [GM-N] to slash hourly labour costs by May 15.
CAW president Ken Lewenza says the company faces liquidation if a cost-saving agreement is not reached.
“This is an unbelievable situation,” says Mr. Lewenza, who believes the car maker may have to file for Chapter 11 and CCAA creditor protection.”…….
It’s completely believable on the taxpayer side. One side gets it, the other gets it taken away….by government fiat.

If you follow the thing, the money’s the straight line. The forensic accountants got to that.
The whole thing is so greasy, it’s hard to believe this is the way things are run (and likely still run) in this country.
It’s still not complete though. Coming…

  7. Trickle-Down Corruption
    The real scandal.
    By Jonah Goldberg
Some days you have to ask yourself: My God, what if these people were Republicans?
Democrats took back Congress in 2006 and the presidency in 2008 in no small part because of their ability to bang their spoons on their high chairs about what they called the Republican “culture of corruption.” More At:
