[Sandie] Rinaldo: So, you know, here we have Hamed Karzai in Washington talking about hopeful (sic) of peaceful future—how realistic is that given the threat of escalating attacks by the Taliban?
Hillier: Well, first of all I go back to the supposed threat of escalating attacks by the Taliban. It’s kind of interesting we have a report from a supposed Taliban commander who clearly is not going to be identified. And whatever he spouts, people put it on the front page of the newspaper— act as his vehicle to deliver it around the world no matter if there’s any truth or basis to it whatsoever and put him on TV, in fact, and show…
I think it’s actually appalling. I think if it was a Canadian commander or American saying things the dissection that would go on before that report was put out would be incredible. That has not occurred in this case. So on the case of the Taliban, you know, they can feel free to say what they want. They are unconstrained by the Geneva Convention; they are unconstrained by truth. And as a result they can say what they want.
For all we know, the reporters might have been talking to the village idiot.
(The Black Rod provided the transcript.)

every time someone talks to a reporter, they are talking to an idiot.
Love that Hillier.
Exactly. When anyone talks to a reporter, their speaking with the village idiot.
Just another “right-wing extreemist”.
And what was her comeback ?
Rinaldo: No, I, I take your case in point on, on broadcast but I guess it’s out. Other media are broadcasting it so it’s available and it’s not an issue of censorship at this point. We have to talk about it because other people are certainly talking about it as well.
UN-BEH-EFF-IN-LEAVE-A-BULL !!
Others are jumping off a cliff to kill themselves, so I can too. (see: asteroid, waiting)
Our brothers and sisters in the industry are stupid, so we can be too.
The media’s famous “our sources tell us” line. And to think the Latte Liberals and the media have a problem with anonymous internet posters !
Hooray for Hillier !! – he openly spoke what we all know – most Canadian Journalists act like Village Idiots.
Matt beat me to it.
Good for Hillier, dragging the media on the mat for its unmitigated deference to the Taliban.

“We have to talk about it because other people are certainly
talking about it as well.”
uh, sandie… there’s plenty of hoary old tales in the leftosphere
about jews making holiday snacks with the blood of muslim
children… we gonna have a half hour special about that too?
ergo… who are you gonna side with here… a woman whose only
qualification is that she can read whatever is thrown up on the
teleprompter… or the recently retired head of the canadian
military?

neo – a keeper for the files !!
Sandy Rinaldo? Now there’s a bright spark.
It is my profound belief that the only thing about CTV that makes them better than CBC is that they can go bankrupt.
God speed the day.
ergo… who are you gonna side with here… a woman whose only

Same could be about the POTUS.
Same could be said about the POTUS, I mean.
I see P.M. Harper is visiting Afghanistan again. Got to hand it to this guy, at least the troops know he is 100% behind them.
Remember that pathetic visit of Dion to Afghanistan?
Not only could the “reporter” have been talking to the village idiot instead of a Taliban commander, but the village could have been a movie lot in Arizona or Nevada.
Heck, does anyone know if Baghdad Bob has opened a journalism school in the UAE?
Sandi Renaldo, bringing the jumper on the ledge perspective to suicide discussions , everywhere.
KICK ASS General Hillier.
for all we know the reporters might have been talking to the village idiot
Hillier forgot to Add
Like Iam Now!
Nothing like a refreshing smackdown to the media.
The MSM is like the ‘gang that couldn’t shoot straight’.
Kudos to General Hillier for sorting Sandie out.
Cheers

Check the fifth post at the link. Still smiling!!
Sandie was once upon a time a hot newsbabe, sadly she has aged physically and not mentally, she is just another stupid hack that Hillier has very little time for. He deals business like, no time for idiots.
For all we know, the reporters might have been talking to the village idiot.
The CBC reporter was interviewing a reporter from the Globe?
I Hillier!
Well done, General Hillier! Thanks for posting this, Kate.
Thanks for the link to the visit our Prime Minister paid to Afghanistan, ron in kelowna. Our Prime Minister is a principled and courageous man and he earns more and more respect from Canadians like myself, every day.
It is such a pleasure to be proud of a Canadian Prime Minister. I have always been proud of Canada and the Canadian troops; it is the soldiers who I owe for protecting my liberty and my country, not a politician; however, it is great to see two forces that affect my Freedom (political and military) fighting on the same side: the right side, the side of Canada and the Canadian people.
God Bless the brave soldiers and God Bless our brave Prime Minister, Hon Stephen Harper.
I noticed that the CBC website (at your own peril) has managed to get the most unflattering of pictures of the Prime Minister again. I bet dollars to doughnuts every other shot had smiling troops.
fred beat me to it right out of the chute.
Renaldo’s response to Hillier shows not a mindful breaking of some “standard” of reporting but rather a complete unawareness that there is any such standard. After Hillier pointed out, in clear English, that Rinaldo’s/CTV’s promotion of the idea of “the threat of escalating attacks by the Taliban” is based on the statements of some supposed Taliban commanders whose alleged assessments are not dissected or examined at all by the media, but rather put out as some sort of truth — as Hillier said, “for all we know the reporters might have been talking to the village idiot — Renaldo responded: “I, I take your case in point on, on broadcast, but I guess it’s out (there). Other media are broadcasting it, so it’s available, and it’s not an issue of censorship at this point. We have to talk about it because other people are certainly talking about it as well.”
Hillier had pointed out that if the source were a NATO commander or so, the source’s assertion would be fact-checked and doubted into oblivion, in contrast to the fact that some unidentified enemy leader can always gets his attemptedly-demoralizing message out there straight out, express post. Renaldo mistakenly read his statement as being about censorship of Western sources, instead of about the non-vetting of entirely dubious, war-motivated statements by anonymous enemy sources.
A year ago CP’s Joan Bryden felt the need to defend one of her stories which had speciously, by insinuation, attempted to link Liberal MP Keith Martin to Stormfront, on the grounds that Stormfront had endorsed Martin’s motion on the HRCs and free speech. Bryden wrote “I submit that the story simply related factually a development which caused a stir on Parliament Hill.” Like Renaldo’s weak justification, Bryden’s referred-to “development” was in essence earlier reporting of the smear by other reporters. Bryden added, in further defense, “At least one rival party gleefully drew reporters’ attention to the site” — in other words, if some partisan gang tries to draw some specious connection, and does so gleefully, that makes it news, case closed.
Note that in the CTV interview with Hillier, too, Renaldo justified ongoing bad reporting by claiming that the fact that others had reported the questionable information justified such uncontextualized, fact-ish re-presentation by CTV as “news.”
Joan Bryden’s defense of her smear-piece included a statement that she had given Martin “considerable space in which to disavow Stormfront”; well, Renaldo, too, gave Hillier “space” to counter-argue with an unknown, unidentified, perhaps non-existent Taliban commander’s alleged comments. The question, of course, is this: why should interviewees be responding to non-credible, partisan-not-factual, agenda-driven “sources,” sources which include, in effect, in this case, other non-credible, partisan-not-factual, agenda-driven media members?
We saw a lot of that during the last two election campaigns: disreputable, fake news gets recycled as reputable, verified “news.” In other words, “we saw it on the news, so now we have to report on the news…”
sabra0 and old white guy – too bad for the msm that our Prime Minister is a handsome man – even they, the mini men and females of the ‘scraps of paper’ ilk, cannot make Stephen Harper look like anyone but himself. And Canadians like that ‘look’, nothing ‘fancy pancy’ about Canada’s PM, what you see is what you get.
The craven Ikky on the other hand, requires many ‘do overs’ to make him look like he inhales – is his slate grey pallor make-up or the fault of a stone heart (does he have a heart?), or are his photos in the msm airbrushed? Is it stylish in the Liberano Party to sport that starved, pasty Vampire look? Do the ‘intellectuals’ think they should look like this to enforce their superiority (eg. they don’t work) over the peasantry who walk and work in the sun? So many important questions for the msm, real hard news stories waiting to be written, and where is the msm? Following our Winston Churchill type Prime Minister (who gets out and grubs with the commoners – of all gauche things!) while he visits the troops in a desert and he spends most of his time outside, side by side with the unwashed citizens of Canada who are risking their necks for the likes of me.
Someone should tell Ikky to get out of the barn and stand outside beside the haystack in the sun to sniff his hay; if he wants to be a ‘hayseed champion’, he should make himself look like he gets out of the cool room in the cellar more than once a week. No ‘hayseed redneck’ makes a living in the cellar – ‘rednecks’ do not ‘identify’ with people who spend all of their day indoors. Has Ikky really been outside this year – except for the ‘pork’ at that BBQ?
Just trying to help! (I am a redneck type)
The msm should be covering these ‘pressing issues’. Canada will wait Breathless with Libranoism for the ‘Power Play’ (isn’t that a graph making program that comes with Office, compatible with Microsoft..no that is Power Point…wandered off topic..well whatever..go for it Jannie and Craigo and Clark (not superman) and the rest of the gang. There’s a years ‘searching’ there for you people.
I lost any respect for Rinaldo on the night of the fall/08 election when she stood fawning between Iggy and Rae, cooing and flirting, slobbering. The news was all about those two…
Can we see the vid of this interview…I’d love to see the look on her face.
Excellent retort from Hillier!!
Mister Hillier,
I salute you!
Go Army!
Speedy’s right. You must read the post by “Gunny94”.
Is Hillier thinking of running for Parliament?
I’d vote for him.
Jema54, I’m able to open mail at the address I gave you, but nothing from you. Could you try again? Thanks!
Sandy Rinaldo? Now there’s a bright spark.
I haven’t watched TV for some months now, but if I recall correctly, she’d be good to have in bed.
Talking of the CBC. I just today received a letter from the “Friends of Canadian Broadcasting” with a questionaire to be filled in and returned, in a postage-prepaid envelope 🙂 They had a whole bunch of Qs about the CBC. I answered all negatively, writing in the comment field that the “Friends” should be given ownership of the CBC and no more tax money goes to the CBC. They can make it live or die themselves.
If you have one of these letters (I expect you do) then fill it in appropriately … BUT … DO NOT give them your cc # on the donation section. That would be an error.
RW…how do we get on the ‘Friends’ mailing list?…this could be fun.
I will try again, batb – maybe I overfilled the memory at your e-mail.
Sorry if I did do that.
Hey! Give Sandy some slack eh?
She’s been sucking hind t*t behind Lloyd for decades. If watching over a coral reef is the best job in the world, playing second fiddle to Lloyd for that period of time has to be the worst.
“The CTV News with Lloyd Robertson. Here’s Sandy Rinaldo” or words to that effect. Sheesh!
If Lloyd had any cojones, he would have graciously left years ago to allow proper succession: Sandie moves to no. 1, someone else moves to no.2, someone gets promoted to Toronto etc.
So ease off! At least she doesn’t look like a ghost!
