  1. I am descended from one of the Highland clans who rightly or wrongly backed Bonnie Prince Charlie at Culloden. My grandparents and their siblings were very proud of their Scots heritage but seldom mentioned Culloden because it was considered to be a Catholic revolt. Many many years later I read John Prebble’s 1961 book “Culloden”. The above paragraph from wiki regarding the fate of Jacobites after Culloden is partially true. The LUCKY ones were transported to the Carolinas as “slaves”. The vast majority of Highlanders suffered a far worse fate in one of the most heinous acts in British history.

    Wow. there’s a real deep analysis of american party politics-as i recall, we only have two parties that matter here. I suppose the fact that the current democratic presdident elect is a mixed race dude elected partially by the votes of black and mixed race people, while running against what has been the party of racism in America for the last bit 40 years or so..has excaped you…you know, nixon’s “southern strategy” in which he successfully recruited the last of the old school southern democratic racist to the republican party so we could have david duke ex grand wizard of the KKK run for office as a republican ect ect.   6. Oprah must have been closer to a deuce and a half when she starred in “The Color Purple”. I thought she looked mighty fine. Reminded me of a really popular stripper that made the rounds in Northern Alberta in the early 80s. She could have pulled my car out of a snowbank without breaking a sweat.

    Sympathetic soul that I am, I have to weigh the whole Oprah scene. That she is a good woman, I have no doubt. I think she has done well to conceal what must be a immense patronizing arrogance. I make excuses for her.

    I know full well that she is a racialist. The liberal have now joined the two terms of racist and racialist. It suits their agenda. However I would try to define “racialist” not in the best way, but roughly. It is a person who generally will not openly discriminate or put down others from a different racial background. They do, however believe that they and their group is inherently superior to the others.

    Winfrey has shown this a number of times. “I got lottsa white people workin’ for me- look there is one over there”. Bemused and pleased white man grins into the camera.

  21. I got here too late for the fun,but this cartoon reminded me immediately of Mohammed Ali. One of his memorable lines came after the ‘rumble in the jungle’.
