Get Out The Vote?

For all Obama’s professed ability to motivate new voters, it seems that more people turned out for Kerry vs Bush than for McCain vs Obama.
2004 Popular Vote: 121,069,054
Bush 62,040,610 Kerry 59,028,444
2008 Popular Vote: 118,225,016
Obama 62,682,389 McCain 55,543,527
Those figures may be preliminary, but considering the population growth in the past four years and the hype surrounding Obama, it’s interesting what the clear light of November 5th has to say. (For one thing, it’s seems he’s scarcely more popular today than Bush was two years into the Iraq war.)
Related: Short coat tails. Gay marriage bans look to have passed from Florida to California. So much for the end of social conservativism.
More on the numbers here. As commentor Free Thinker points out, considering his “unprecedented half billion dollar war chest, total media subservience, timely stock market panic, celebrity endorsements” (not to mention the massive potential for voter fraud in certain precincts) perhaps the Democrats Chicago machine should be asking themselves what went wrong?
Nov. 6 UpdateAmerican University’s Center for the Study of the American Electorate (pdf)

Despite lofty predictions by some academics, pundits, and practitioners that voter turnout would reach levels not seen since the turn of the last century, the percentage of eligible citizens casting ballots in the 2008 presidential election stayed at virtually the same relatively high level as it reached in the polarized election of 2004.

  1. I am praying for Pres. Obama’s safety even as I grieve that the voters threw away a man that loved his country to embrace a man that doesn’t love and may not even like his country.
Sleven repeated the canard that there are no blacks in Alaska. I lived there for four years and that is simply not true. How could it be true with the two huge bases and one huge post and numerous other military outposts up there watching Russia?

  2. Politics are yesterday game, so let me report back from the future. G.W. Bush has been vindicated and perceived by American public as the great protector of U.S.A. Funny – the way collective perception works.

  3. slevin: “Hundreds of years of slavery”
Your math is off. The USA was formed on July 4, 1776. The Emancipation Proclamation was declared on January 1, 1863 (87 years later) and the 13th Amendment was adopted on December 6, 1865 (89 years later). Any slavery practiced in Africa before 1776, or after 1865, is not the US’s fault.
Actually Kathy slavery it the U.S. can be traced back to 1607. You think it just started at midnight of Dec 6th?

  4. “Like the conservatives treated Bill Clinton, or Stephane Dion?”
It amazes me how someone could honestly defend Bill “I did not have sexual relations with that woman” as he lied bold faced to the American people at his impeachment trial.
His wonderful peaceful and bloodless war in Bosnia? The people there are still reeling over his greatest corrupt money making scandal, here’s a sample to start to learn a little more about the great democratic liar that can fool the sheep with a saxophone dog and pony show……

In the meantime you can rest assured that as he spouts his rhetoric about Obamba and global warming with his good friend and accomplice Al Gore, he will make sure he switches off the lights he’s not using in one of his many multimillion dollar mansions. Tax increases over 250K? You are a supreme idiot if you think any of these guy pay a dime more in taxes than the obligatory pocket change they report as earnings that actually exist in US accounts.
Stephane Dion? It is really hard to believe that people could actually believe a slimy insignificant worm like that could run his own household much less a country. What is wrong with you people?

  5. Obama will do a few things right and cons will commend him for it. He might try to rein in illegal immigration, for example,(he can do it because he won’t be labelled “raaaaaacisssstttt!”), or he might try to increase Nato and U.S. forces in Afghanistan (which he’s already making noises about doing). Cons will support him when he deserves support.
But when did libs ever, ever commend Bush for his record-breaking billions in aid to Africa, for his attempts to fix social security, for his reaching out to Hispanics via lax immigration laws, and for the very strong U.S. economy before the recent melt-down (if he’s to blame for the bad, then he should be praised for the good, no?)? Has the left ever given Bush credit for keeping terrorist attacks off American soil for seven years now, when more attacks were predicted by everyone?
No. It was all “Bushhitler!!!!” and “fascist!!” (even as those yelling this walk free — try dissing the gov’t in Venezuala, Beijing or Moscow . . .). Movies were made about assassinating him. T-shirts were sold that depicted guns to his head and a target on his forehead. He was called “the world’s worst terrorist” as the Taliban and Al Quaida blew up women in children in the streets of the Muslim world. More Muslims have been killed by fellow Muslims than by Bush.
I repeat — cons will behave better with Obama than libs behaved with Bush. Cons will write columns decrying his polices, or letters to the ed., or send around petitions, or spout on blogs. They will not engage in the foaming and deranged treason of the left. They will not take to the streets, (such fashionable, trendy radicalism . . !), vandalizing and destroying and screaming “pigs” at the forces of law and order. And Obama will get the credit for it.
Oh, and here’s a prediction: Obama will not only NOT dismantle that “fascist” Patriot Act, but will further its powers so his administration can have more control over U.S. citizens. Lefty admins always want more control. And the trolls here will not say a word about “fascism” when he does it.

  6. Hmmm … “Hundreds of years of slavery, indentured servitude, segregation in all levels of society, KKK, lynchings, taxation without representation, ad infinitum. An entire history of being taken advantage of and abused by whites .. ”
Quite a mouthful, and by someone who can’t count. An end was put to slavery by the governments of France and Britain (who put the Royal Navy behind their campaign) and then the Americans, who carried out a civil war of great brutality to the same end – and were almost frustrated by the Democrats in Congress. As for lynchings of blacks, once again that would have been by Democrats. Few Republicans dared venture into the South after the Civil War, and, according to “The Mind of the South” very few blacks were lynched before Abolition (they were valuable property). The KKK? more Democrats.
And ultimately, who collected the people who were sold into slavery? There was negligible penetration into Africa by whites before slavery had been abolished. Presumably the slaves began their servitude when they were sold by their relatives or chiefs to itinerant slavers.
Nor does “slave” imply “black”. Indeed the word “slave” is probably derived from “Slav”, a member of the Slavic peoples.

  7. California Proposition 10: Alternative fuels, renewable energy. Defeated !! 59.9% to 40.1%
California Proposition 7: Renewable energy. Defeated !! 64.9% to 35.1%
Remember, we are talking ‘green” California here.

  8. Thanks, Pete, excellent points. Cons are decent people, and have shown this throughout America’s history. Libs, generally, get all hot-and-bothered by icky ideologies that lead to more ickiness.
“hey slevin, who freed the slaves? That’s right, the Republicans. Who passed the 15th amendment allowing anybody to vote, regardless of “race, color, or previous condition of servitude”? That’s right, Republicans. Who passed the Civil Rights Act of 1957? That’s right, the Republicans. Who sent troops to Arkansas to desegregate the schools? That’s right, Eisenhower, a Republican. Who founded the KKK? That’s right, the Democrats! Who voted against the 1957 Civil Rights Act? John F Kennedy, a Democrat Icon! Who called Dr. Martin Luther King a “Nigger Preacher”? That’s right, President Johnson, a Democrat! Why was Dr. King a Republican?”
Oh, and cons donate more and give more of their time to charities, as well.

  9. Shhhhh, you’re alluding to the PR words that every leftist shakes in rage to, right down to their core:
    Personal Responsibility.
Whose fault will it be when your mortgage is unpaid, and gas isn’t in your car? I don’t think it’s the government’s fault…

Laudable, Lelia, but the U.S. Constitution may be Obama’s best protection. If Obama and Biden were to die suddenly, who would want to see Pres. Pelosi?

  13. California Proposition 9: Victims’ rights Passed !! 53.2% to 46.8%
[What it would do: Amend the state Constitution to give new rights to crime victims and restrict early release of inmates. It would allow victims not to cooperate in criminal defendants’ preparation for trial; would provide mandatory restitution by an offender if a victim suffers a loss; would increase the maximum period between parole hearings from five to 15 years; and allow an unlimited number of victims’ family members to testify at parole hearings.
Chief proponents: Assemblyman Todd Spitzer (R-Orange), Crime Victims United of California, Justice for Homicide Victims, Justice for Murdered Children
Major donors to “Yes” side: Henry T. Nicholas III, co-founder of Broadcom Corp., the brother of a murder victim and now under indictment on fraud, conspiracy and drug charges; Crime Victims United, Peace Officers Research Assn. of California
Chief opponents: California Teachers Assn., Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, California Public Defenders Assn., California State Assn. of Counties, American Civil Liberties Union
Major donors to “No” side: Service Employees International Union’s California State Council, California Federation of Teachers, California Teachers Assn., California Democratic Party]LAT
Do California Teachers really think beat up students should not have Victims’ Rights ?

  14. I already did post the numbers Phantom, and they’re all over the internet for you to see. You know, there’s this thing called Google…it has tons of information.

I don’t mind that Kate is making a fool of herself…people will be googling for election results, or coming to her page and seeing this bitter right wing vindication rant and then look up any major news service and realize, oh, that blog I just looked at was totally incorrect, wrong, and misguided….and yet Kate expects people to go to blogs like hers for factual and indepth journalism that the MSM doesn’t cover? Sheesh.

  15. Well, Russia has spoken, Medvedev, smelling weakness, threatened yesterday to put missiles* next to the Polish border.
    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,447204,00.html
I’m sure the terrorists sensing weakness too will weigh in next with a nasty little test of their own for Obama.
So, now the Obama embracing dupes in Europe can ponder what a weakened America will get them from the Russians. Hey, they can dial 911 to the UN to keep the Russian bear at bay in the coming years.
We’ll see if it’s possible for the Dems to erase all of the gains from our ending the Cold War in a matter of months?
*For the detail challenged on the left, there is a big difference between a missile shield(defensive) that the US wants deployed in Europe and missiles of the offensive type that the Russians want to threaten the Polish and their bordering neighbors with.

  16. So, Obama is 1% more popular than the most “unpopular” President !?
Just how much “help” was Hollywood, the Media, Universities, The Public School System ?

  17. It is good that the US will now have a half Kenyan black running the country. I just hope he is nothing like his black brother leaders in Africa. Look at the success stories there, after whitey left them in charge.

  18. Hey slevin, have we established whether or not you’re Peter Slevin, of Wapo? Jus’ curious…
The leftards are just funny. Not sure why you think just because Obama won the election, that the right is just going to give up and say “ok”. If you spent any time at all looking at the man, his words, his support, you get the fraud part right away.
So tell us, leftdinks, what exactly do you think your payoff is going to be with him in the big chair? Free car? No interest no repay loans? Your food bank box now going to come with a ribbon on it? What services do you think the dems are going to cut in order to pay out the no-fault mortgages they foisted on the economy. The smart money will have already left town by the time they get around to trying to tax it, and besides, the really big money is pretty much immune to any government. That leaves the sap in the middle to foot the bill. Goodbye IRAs and 401Ks…

  19. >
it was cleaned out in 1967,,,,
all that is left is green chits which the world still happily collects..

  20. Ok idiot leftards:
Your slavery canard is horsesh**. Simply put, it ended a century and a half ago. It ended because English-speaking white people stopped it.
You will probably not recall (being idiot leftards) that for hundreds of years white Europeans were at risk of being carted off by Muslim slavers and sold as slaves themselves. The story has been turned into pop culture and fairy tales now days and the slavery part is absent. You may have heard of the Pirates of the Barbary Coast? No one was safe on a ship, the coast of the Med, and there were many incidents of white slaves being taken from the southern coast of England itself.
We seem to have gotten over it. If you’re a poor illiterate loser in a western democracy, just like white trash living in the trailer park, you have only yourself to blame. I don’t give a flying f*** what colour you are or what your excuse is. A loser is someone who blames others. Period.
Time for others to stop F’ing whining and get over themselves. Especially given that a huge portion of Africans sold into slavery where sold by other black Africans.
Obama’s victory means one thing: Absolute proof that the situation of poor blacks are the fault of poor blacks. If racism was responsible for the some blacks being poor, Obama wouldn’t have won. Take the excuse off the table, start listening to Sowell and Cosby and put Jackson and Farrakhan into early retirement. A black racist who sees only skin colour is no different than the KKK.

  21. “It is good that the US will now have a half Kenyan black running the country. I just hope he is nothing like his black brother leaders in Africa. Look at the success stories there, after whitey left them in charge.”
I love how racist that comment is. If you had stated something about culture, upbringing, education, tribalism, etc. being the reason then that would be a fine argument, complete with facts and merit.
Instead you have decided to dumb the argument down to race…how classy.
When is Kate going to post the real numbers hmmmmmmm?

  22. This election, as well as our own recent election, help to understand the meaning of dividing into sheep and goats.
My feeling is that the coasts are beyond redemption, indeed the Great Lakes region has joined the Goat Parade.
With the Marxist re-education well advanced, we really have only one hope in this world, and that is the division of North America into Heartland and whatever the cesspool chooses to call itself.
Forget about them, they are dead to God and dead to history. They will share the fate of Europe and well deservedly too. When they find out they can’t create the Kingdom from Marxist make-believe, when they learn that they can’t control the weather, when they see the bitter fruit of their social engineering, it will be too late for them, the third world will have poured in and taken over their abandoned strongholds, and turned them into slaves.
We do not need to suffer that fate in the west. Look at the election results and see where the natural homeland of the people of God is situated. We need to do what Israel did, establish our state as a fortress against all comers, and prepare to live as best we can behind the strong walls of our own defined freedom.
The only alternative is the slow death of a thousand cuts, the CHRC hearings, the smug condescension of the media pundits paid from your taxes to insult you, the obvious fallacies of Marxism imposed on you by your deranged children as they pour out of the Marxist schools with their heads full of crap.
Why wait another day? We should work non-stop to create our own country, from Texas to Alberta, from the Cascades to the Mississippi, invite the southeast where people are still largely sane, and ban the rest, take their refugees and exchange them for the useful idiots among us, who will surely be very unhappy to live without their views sanctioned as the official ideology of the Godless nation they seek to raise up.
Do this, or stop complaining and measure your bodies for the chains that the Marxists are sure to be making for you.

  23. “Actually Kathy slavery it the U.S. can be traced back to 1607. You think it just started at midnight of Dec 6th?”
    Posted by: big ben
Actually, big ben, slavery in the U.S. can be traced back to Black African warlords and Arab Muslims collecting, indenturing and selling black slaves long before that. Most, however, were kept in the ME under far harsher conditions. Conditions so harsh in transportation and treatment that up to 80% of original captive slaves died on the way to market.
In fact, the black African slave trade is still quite visible and going strong in the Sudan: (http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/Read.aspx?GUID=489CB2B7-1040-4376-BC5E-DDD9DCD93792)
    and other Islamic countries.
Saudi Arabia ‘officially’ (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) banned slavery in 1962. Although, it is still fully intact and permissible under Sharia law.
Between the mid 17th century and early 18th century the Barbary Muslims enslaved 1.5 million white Europeans and Americans captured on the high seas and through coastal raids as far north as Iceland. Sometimes enslaving whole towns as they did with a coastal Irish village of 450 souls.
This is part of the reason why Jefferson and Adams conducted the first war against Islamic terrorists.
You and slevin might want to brush up on, you know, history before spouting off at the computer keys. Otherwise, you just keep underscoring the leftard definition.

  24. Well, those are definitely preliminary numbers (last I checked on CNN, Obama’s total was 63,378,953).
Now, it’s cute that you’re trying to paint this as some sort of failure, based on COMBINED totals (as though somehow Obama’s team should feel they failed by neglecting to help turn out more votes for John McCain!) but I fail to see how even the most partisan conservative could try to spin these numbers that way. Barack Obama just won more votes in a U.S. election than any other candidate in history, and by well over a million votes. That’s a failure of “getting out the vote”??? Democrats should be asking, “What went wrong?” after this record-breaking accomplishment? After taking Virgina (not to mention North Carolina) for the first time since 1964? After flipping NINE states from red to blue (including Florida and Ohio)? I’d ask to get some of what you’re smoking, but I’m not sure I could handle anything that potent!
I just don’t see how beating the previous record of most votes EVER for a Presidential candidate (and by over 1,338,343 votes) is supposed to cause the DEMOCRATS to do some soul searching. Again, using the TOTAL votes of BOTH candidates as your yard stick is a cute trick, but Obama’s mission wasn’t to get McCain supporters out to the polls. It’s not the DNC’s fault that McCain was less popular among voters this year than John Kerry was in 2004.

  25. I personally think that a large portion of the “Religious Right” simply stayed at home… McCain was an unacceptable candidate.
Obama managed to drum up a couple million more votes himself, that’s true, but the real story is how many FEWER votes the GOP got this time around… look at the numbers, Obama only got 200,000 more votes this time than Bush did in ’04, but McCain pulled in 6.5 million LESS votes than Bush in ’04.
The story isn’t a glorious “victory” for Obama, it’s the utter collapse of the GOP that paved they way to his victory.

  26. Obama’s ‘free education’ pledge isn’t new.
We’ve been giving lefties a free eduction on this blog for years.

  27. warwick – thanks for your post. You are quite right. Slavery is hardly done ‘by whites versus blacks’.
In fact, slavery was a basic economic strategy in the Middle East and Africa. In the Middle East, it was carried out by upper class against lower class; by one skin colour vs another, by one tribe vs another. Same thing in Africa. In Africa you get whole tribes indentured to another tribe, forbidden to even marry unless approved by the ‘Owner’. So, slavery is not an issue of skin colour, despite many posters here assuming that it is.
Additionally, Obama is not descended from slaves and to assume that IF you are black THEN you were a slave is, as I noted above, quite incorrect.
As Warwick notes, a key ‘lesson to be learned’, hopefully, of many black people, is that you get out of life what you put into it. Eg, Dr. Condoleeza Rice. Therefore, to define oneself forever as a victim of a previous era is the height of irresponsibility.
As for Obama – I’m glad he won. I’m a Conservative not a socialist. But, his winning, since he and the Democratic Party DID deliberately campaign on ‘race’ – his winning will have to force many black people to confront themselves and their motivation in life. And, end the excuses of both ‘races’.
I also think that the Republican Party had moved too far from its Conservative base and needs a thorough overhaul. McCain’s winning would have prevented that much-needed house cleaning. And, yes, I thought he was too old. But I thought Sarah Palin was/is great.
Obama? Here we have a shallow, self-absorbed inexperienced urban ‘social talker’. Someone who has never had to confront his utopian rhetoric with hard reality. It’s easy to be a ‘community developer’ when all you do is talk, and phone up the City for the money. But, now, as CEO, he’ll have to confront reality.
The reality that all that utopian talk requires hard cash and work to fulfill – and the harder reality that such basics, don’t exist. Then what will he do?
The thing about socialism is that it doesn’t work in populations larger than 30. Anything larger and you require an imbalance of goods and services, with one part of the society producing and storing ‘capital’. Understand ‘capital’ as the ability-to-continue-into the future via building infrastructure, research, storage etc
If you attempt socialism or common redistribution in large societies, you can only do so by force. Taking the surplus forcibly away and repressing the people. Result? Less and less and less surplus will be produced and the society will collapse. There are numerous examples all throughout history.
I think that both Obama and the Democratic Party were using each other. I’m curious to know who is Behind Obama. Who is running him? After all, he’s nothing but rhetoric. Who is leaving him do the talk, while someone else is doing the funding, the organizing, the work on the ground?
Something I like very much about the election ballots and election manner of the US – the fact that questions on serious issues are actually on the ballot. The people are actually consulted on issues such as gay marriage, abortion, various funding issues! Wow – wouldn’t that be nice in Canada?
Were we consulted on bilingualism? On the flag? On the Charter? On the HRCs? On anything?

  28. From the New York Times:
“Even with hundreds of thousands of absentee and provisional ballots still uncounted, the popular vote total stood at an estimated 133.3 million as of Wednesday morning, eclipsing the roughly 123 million voters who turned out in 2004, said Michael McDonald, a voting expert at George Mason University. Mr. McDonald said there may be nearly a half million outstanding ballots in Georgia alone, and thousands more in other states — including the one with the largest turnout, California — that are still being counted.
“Based on early figures, about 62.5 percent of all eligible voters cast ballots, just shy of the 62.6 percent figure that was recorded in the 1964 election. But that figure will climb and almost certainly set a new record as the remaining votes are counted, Mr. McDonald said.”

  29. big ben at November 5, 2008 1:22 PM
First off, it’s Kathryn, not Kathy. Second, European slavery in the Americas (not to be confused with the slavery practiced by the peoples already here) may go back to 1607 or earlier. However, that would be English, French, Spanish or Portuguese slavery, not American as the USA did not exist until 1776.

  30. Also, I find it to be absolutely HILARIOUS (and deliciously ironic, given 2000) that conservatives suddenly want to focus on the popular vote, and not the electoral vote, and to pretend as though Obama’s team did all the could to drive up the popular vote, instead of what they actually did which was to focus on a strategy that would wrap up the electoral votes that actually count (and I concede that it’s equally humorous and ironic that the Dems are all about the Electoral College vote today).
Frankly, given the American system, I fail to see how the so called “popular vote” tells us very much at all about the relative “popularity” of candidates, given that candidates (smart one’s anyway) put almost no effort into driving up popular vote, while expending considerable effort driving up the electoral count (often at the direct expense of the popular vote). Trust me, if Obama wanted to run up a pop. vote “win” he would have spent every SECOND he spent in Virginia and Indiana, and North Carolina in New York and California and Massachusetts.
If one wants to compare the successes of Bush to the success of Obama, let’s compare their success at getting the actual prize; the thing they were actually campaigning for. On that count (while the count continues…) right now it’s Bush 286, Obama 349. Or, put another way: Bush 53%, Obama 65%.
I don’t think many Dems will be losing sleep over last night’s results any time soon.

  31. Hey Kitchener,
It would be less hilarious, say, if conservatives spent the next 4 years accusing the Dems of “stealing” the election, blowing up the WTC and murdering half the country.
But then we’d be just like your lot.

  32. Lloyd: it wasn’t “free market” types who went cap in hand to the US government for bailouts, it was *corporate* state-socialists.
Note that corporatist state-socialists masquerading as free-market capitalists can trot out “freedom this and freedom that” with the same lack of attention to and respect for principles as garden variety individual state-socialists. Happens all the time.

  33. “So much for the end of social conservativism.”
Yup. Still plenty of douchebags out there trying to deny people their rights.
So how exactly has gay marriage ruined your relationships here in Canada?

  34. “Actually, big ben, slavery in the U.S. can be traced back to Black African warlords and Arab Muslims …”
    Blah blah blah.
Okay, well first of all, those Black African Warlords hadn’t just penned a document proclaiming how all men were equal.
See… that’s where things get goofy. The US had and still has this delusion wherin they say stuff like this, but then turn around and enslave people, or deny different groups the same rights as others.
Anyone who just thinks that history is something in the past that has no impact on the present or the future is kidding themselves.

  35. John:
Nice to know some of us prefer to imagine hypocrisy the greatest sin of all.
No point checking the beam in one’s own eye.
Now that’s the modern liberal for you.

  36. John
What’s your point? So the US was/is as hypocritical as everyone else on earth. Just like Slavery has been universal across societies and is not unique to whitey. That changes exactly zero of the facts above.
Are you an imbecile or a retard?

  37. “Anyone who just thinks that history is something in the past that has no impact on the present or the future is kidding themselves.”
History can’t always be used as an excuse or scapegoat for inability to improve on one’s life and community though. At some point, that blaming has to stop.

  38. Irwin Daisy, I believe Niger just officialy stopped slavery some 3 years ago. A young girl was just awarded several thousand dollars by their courts for being kept as a slave. It is estimated some 50 thousand people are indentured slaves in Niger.
I fully agree with ET, now blacks can not blame whitey for their poor performance in our society and holding them back. “Hope” this will happen as it seems many blacks being interviewed are expecting more freebies not that Obama’s “change” will mean a change in their personal and community responsibity.

  39. From Politico:

    2008 turnout shatters all records
By ANDY BARR | 11/5/08 4:19 AM EST
More than 130 million people turned out to vote Tuesday, the most ever to vote in a presidential election.
With ballots still being counted in some precincts into Wednesday morning, an estimated 64 percent of the electorate turned out, making 2008 the highest percentage turnout in generations.
In 2004, 122.3 million voted in what was then the highest recorded turnout in the contest between President Bush and Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.).
Previously red states targeted by the Barack Obama campaign demonstrated remarkable turnout, setting records in North Carolina and elsewhere. Increased turnout was also reported in states including Virginia and Indiana.
Exit polls indicate that whites made up a slightly smaller percentage of the electorate than in 2004, as a surge among minority and youth voters aided Obama, who exit polls show won two-thirds of voters ages 18 to 29, 66 percent of Hispanics and 95 percent of blacks.
Although Kerry won all those groups in 2004, he did so with slimmer margins, taking 54 percent of the 18-to-29 vote, 53 percent of Hispanics and 88 percent of blacks.

  40. “I fully agree with ET, now blacks can not blame whitey for their poor performance in our society and holding them back. “Hope” this will happen as it seems many blacks being interviewed are expecting more freebies not that Obama’s “change” will mean a change in their personal and community responsibity.”
Wrong, they can and they will!
When I say “they” I’m not speaking specifically about black people, I’m speaking about everyone that falls into a “historically disadvantaged” group. I’m reminded of the urgency there was for a settlement for the schools Indians were forced to attend in Canada, or the apology from PMSH to Indian people for those schools. Not one instance after the apology or the cheques, the company line was “it isn’t enough”.
Everyone knows that BO being the next POTUS solves NOTHING! If you say otherwise you are a liar, if you believe what you say then you are lying to yourself.

  41. On the issue of slavery, if there is any truth to the notion that colonialism and slavery are the reason behind black socio-economic disadvantage, then how do we explain the Jews. They were colonized, enslaved, dragged off to foreign lands and brutalized every bit as badly as anything done to Africa. Yet, they certainly are successful enough today.

  42. Comrades, new words for the Hallelujah Chorus, please inform your cadres:
    “Hail Obama, hail Obama,
Hail Obama, hail Obama, the One who will bring peace,
    Hail Obama, hail Obama,
    Everybody, join with Oprah,
and get down on your knees,
No longer will the seas be rising.
    (Hallelujah, Gore will screw ya)
Nor will the stock markets be trading,
(that’s a whoopsie, buy some gold fast)
And he shall reign with Chavez applauding,
(and he shall reign with Putin applauding)
    King of kings,
    and Dude of dudes,
    King of kings,
    and dude of dudes,
    Je-re-miah Wright,
In the background, can you see him?
    Sharpton too,
    He’s a player, he’s a stayer,
    Farrakhan,
Clear out from Tel Aviv …

  43. Jews, as former Egyptian long time slaves, bless their culture but hate their contemporary and misplaced liberal politics, have had as rotten a history as you can get. But, bless them, a strong work ethic and a strong protection of family as sacrosanct, no feckless males or irresponsible parents in that crowd, have preserved them throughout the centuries.
It’s more rare to find a feckless useless Arab, Jewish, Indian or Asian husband. Compare them with an African American male beng solidly in the picture, married to his kid’s mom and supporting them. We all have tough times in our histories, sorry, but, not all cultures are as kind to families. Slavey won’t account for this fecklessness as it is rampant in African culture.
Scream racism all you want, but, those are the facts. Obama, the Messiah, isn’t going to fix it either.

  44. Underachievement always needs an excuse from the liberal left doesn’t it?
No matter the historical and cultural proof that all societies have partaken in one form of slavery or have been victimized by it. It doesn’t matter to these people that their intended “victim” group has had a leg up in society for decades and still fails in the larger scope of community. The fact that some groups are culturally irresponsible as a mean average does not write itself to the Liberal hard drive, regardless of facts. You know the facts! American and global crime statistics – (Not PC Canada of course) education statistics – incarceration statistics – single parent and illegitimate child statistics and on and on. Not just America but throughout the world!!!! What these retarded lefties seem to have a problem with is that ALL cultures are not created equal. Get over yourselves, the world is not your perfect rainbow fantasy and there’s nothing wrong with knowing and admitting that. Yes and we also all get old and die eventually. It’s a tough world out there and everyone in it but Western lefty Liberals seem to know, that all these facts are accurate and true (black communities included), get out there and speak with some of them for a change, you’ll know what I’m saying (globally).
