Iowa Caucuses

After following most of the returns on Fox, we turned to CNN to witness the most bizarre, gimmicky, amateurish, and visually confusing graphics I have ever seen on a network newscast – Star Trek meets the local curling club scoreboard. Just wow.
(The Corner has Republican side analysis as good as you’re going to get.)

  1. I was thinking the same thing. Cooper trying to hold that card up so that the floating pie chart had somewhere to sit……….
I guess actual comentary was out of the question?

  2. You folks are revealing yourselves by admitting you’re not watching Breg Hume on Fox.
    CNN=CTV at best.
Sort of like watching PBS for the straight capitalistic goods because you used to watch WFB on Firing Line and Louis Rukheyser (RIP) on Wall Street Week.
    Heh.

  3. When Cooper was waving that card around, I made myself a promise to call Eastlink in the morning and order up FNC.
A guy has to have at least one news channel to watch, right?

Former Sask. NDP cabinet minister will run as Liberal in federal byelection
    1 hour ago
OTTAWA – A former Saskatchewan NDP cabinet minister has officially been selected to run as a Liberal candidate in one of four byelections to be held on March 17.
“Joan Beatty brings to the Liberal Party of Canada a strong mix of local knowledge, aboriginal expertise, political experience and a tradition of service to the people of Saskatchewan,” Liberal Leader Stephane Dion said in a news release late Thursday.
“I am confident that her passion for her home riding of Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River, coupled with her passion for her province and country, will make her a strong member of Parliament and I am so pleased to welcome her to our caucus.”
Beatty said her continued desire to make a positive change for the north, particularly the people of northern Saskatchewan, is why she decided to join the Liberals.
“Under Mr. Dion’s leadership, I believe that I can best represent the constituency at this level, in particular, the First Nations communities where the need is so great,” Beatty said in a news release.

  5. for the shortest of moments, I imagined Bill curling up close to Hillary later tonight, and just getting hooked in the eye with one of her talons…
it may be better to wait for her desperation to show on Tv.

offers the discerning sanitized Canadian predictions of one who gets his news from CNN without being sullied by the concept that there also a species know as Republicans in the race.

  7. Better than watching CNN reduced to low-rate communal hippiedom is to see Cooper fighting back the tears as he watches his gal go down in flames.

  8. Ya, I’d like to be following Hillary tonite to watch how well she can sit down after having her butt kicked this badly tonite.

  9. Now the fun REALLY begins.
The Clinton camp is going to pull out the long knives in NH, and the word from her camp is that the next week will be a full frontal attack on the American public with her detailed presentation of her promised Universal Health Care plans. That will be mixed with a whole lot of dirt flug at Obama.
CNN will be her partner in presenting the Promised Land while attempting to bury the upstart from Illinois.
Lay in lots of beer and popcorn. Seats on the 50 yardline.

  10. Do you people forget about the $100,000 Hillary made off of cattle futures, the first and only time she tried trading in them? We all wish that we had that kind of luck.

  11. So Obama kicked her butt, and Huckabee held up his. Hmmmmm, NH could be fun! Get out the beer and popcorn.

Vitruvius, that had me laughing for minutes. Thanks.
Any culture that cannot laugh at itself is a culture not worth having. Hmmm, might there be some other cultures that take themselves too seriously?
Humour is the smell test for budding democracies. If you can’t laugh at yourself you don’t belong.

I don’t type the following letters often, but LOL.
I also proudly wear a T-shirt that looks like Pi but when you get closer you’ll see that the image is made up of the thousands of digits.
I am a white, middle aged male nerd and make no apologies.

  15. Hillary’s only lead in demographics of those >65, she is in deep shit. The FOX (dem) production crew had switched travel arrangement from Clinton to Obama early in the day. They are flying with him to NH. (Hillary was DUMPED)
I wish the MSM would stop with the Corrupt polls to entice votes for Clinton (she is so close! NOT).
Bill will sleep with one eye open, least Hillary decides to “Bobbin” his Johnson.
    Third Party now Viable! Bloom’er/Gore?
The Huckster will win in a third party race!

  16. I simply refuse to believe that a Baptist Minister or Mormon will be permitted (by the MSM) to be President. I also refuse to believe that a black man with a Muslim background will be permitted to be President (by the people of America).
Am I being bigotted? I don’t believe so…I believe that I am being realistic.
I believe that Huckabee or Romney as VP would be acceptable, with currently lacklustre Fred Thompson as President. I believe that few people like the Hildebeast, so she won’t get the nod and Obama is too vulnerable on too many fronts. I predict a Republican win in 2008.
Of course, I am currently batting .000 in all my other predictions, so…

  17. I wonder where Carville was last night on CNN, as an expert for Hillory.
Listened to all the speeches last night.
Hillory had no emotion, and very lackluster. The other 3 were very upbeat and positive.
The CNN crew was stumped, I think, and I am sure boxes of tissues were in great demand.
    Serves them right.

  18. Things aren’t boding well for Miss Piggy. Iowa is a white state. When the primaries roll through eastern and southern states with large black populations, Obama will pick up those votes. She’s a hard sell to white male Democrats too.
Obama is an inexperienced guy that sure doesn’t deserve the White House, but, I thank God he surfaced to drive a stake in the First Grifters’ comeback plans. Normal Americans are so sick of those clowns.
I expect Huckabee to fade going forward. When you scratch past his bs, he has as much baggage as the Clintons. He’s the Republican equivalent of the Clintons, a guy that plays fast and loose with the truth and a record in Arkansas that is pathetic.

  19. The results were entirely predictable (e.g. consistent with the polls), so don’t let the media’s faked astonishment fool you (after all, the try to make everything exciting).
Dems: Obama may actually beat Clinton, although it will be difficult. But Obama is more electable than Clinton, which also dems know. He is, however, but a bit vague in his policies.
GOP: Huckabee will fade away, as will Romney. It will be McCain or Giuliani.

  20. “I simply refuse to believe that a Baptist Minister or Mormon will be permitted (by the MSM) to be President. I also refuse to believe that a black man with a Muslim background will be permitted to be President (by the people of America).”
It means America is at a crossroads. Either they pick the semi-retarded hick who believes a ghost created the world in 7 days, and has no connection with reality whatsoever… or they pick the black dude who actually seems to have his head screwed on right.
My bet is on the hick. That, or Obama wins and gets shot shortly thereafter by some rightwing nutbar.

  21. I hate to burst your deluded bubble, John, but apparently Obama believes in the ghost who created the world in 7 days, too…he attends Trinity United Church of Christ. Either that or he’s a liar and hypocrite.
So much for the guy who’s got his head screwed on straight, eh? Moron.

  22. Eeyore – Romney has been a successful conservative governor of a very liberal state, the MSM can’t negate that obvious fact. Huckabee is whatever you want him to be, a Slick Willy in Republican clothing. It will catch up with him.
The big news out of Iowa is that the Clintons have lost their grip on the Democrats, the only trough they can feed from. The MSM herd will now annoint Obama. He’s not electable being a neophyte in the correctly perceived dangerous world to live in. The Dems have no one left standing to win with unless the Republicans have very bad luck.
John – Are you suggesting that leftwing moonbats don’t have homical attitudes and access to guns? Perhaps you aren’t noticing the incidents of lefty loons vandalizing and getting physical the past few years. Scurry over to Michelle Malkin’s site, she has catalogued dangerous little moonbats in action.
Just curious, John, want to give us a short synopsis on the most compelling Obama policy agendas in domestic or foreign affairs? The substance that will get Obama to the WH?

  23. Penny, I’m not really in tune with American politics…I’m just calling them as I see them. I like the way that Romney and Thompson talk…Huckabee seems too slick, though Baptists are generally straight arrows. McCain is carrying too much baggage…I heard Guiliani speak and I agreed with (practically) everything he said, but he has some womanizing history, as I recall, that will be exploited.
I’m very glad that Clinton is falling and that Obama is rising. Race SHOULDN’T be an issue, but it will be in some places…and his lack of experience and Muslim heritage will be obvious targets. I don’t know about his policies, but I disagree with the Democratic mindset, so I’m sure that I would disagree with his policies.

  24. I sure hope that wasn’t meant as a dig at local curling club scoreboards — they’re the cultural icon that holds this fragile dominion together, from coast to coast, to coast, to, er, border.

  25. The two network news floggers are just flip sides of the same corporate distraction news coin…both trivialized the real news in the Iowa caucus….they guy who all the pundits said had no hope (Ron Paul) pulled 10% of the vote…so much for MSM objectivity…they have doe everything they can to marginalize and omit Paul from the MSM candidate chatter…their “pundits all poopoo him and discount him as a serious candidate but he still pulls a swing vote…and he still out paces other candidates in grass roots fund raising and campaign work…go figure.

  26. Re Hillory’s lackluster speech last night. A poster on an american blog referred to her as the ice-queen, no emotion, and just waiting to explode on someone in her organization.

  27. I don’t especially like Hillary Clinton, but I hate to see criticisms like ” A poster on an american blog referred to her as the ice-queen, no emotion and just waiting to explode on someone in her organization.” and “getting hooked in the eye with one of her talons.” . . . reminds me of the “cold Stephen Harper” idiocy. I can’t help but think that some of this is anti-female candidate stuff.

  28. Wow! 4 postings by the enlightened Vitruvious on this topic. One in nine. Impressive!

  29. I can’t help but think that some of this is anti-female candidate stuff.
LindaL, any criticism of the Hildabeast as an “ice queen” stands outside of feminism. Lots and lots of women have been elected to public office at this point in time in our history, those that have gone down as losers weren’t defeated because of gender, but, by the content of their ideas. That’s the reality with no need to spin it as a gender issue.
Hillary gamed every female in America when she decided that Bill, the serial adulterer, was more usful to her than cutting the bum loose. She’s not the role model I’d advice for my daughters. The Ice Queen might have picked up a few more votes if Bubba’s clothes had been thrown across the WH lawn.

In her youth, Billary wuz a good conservative(republican), after meeting willy she turned democrap and mused (before marrage) that willy would one day be president. As one democrap stated, ambition is not enough to qualify one for the nomination to run for POTUS
Her whole life is guided by her ambition, morals, scrupples, diginty, honour and honesty be damned

    GYM & Penny,
Its the f*ing JR factor (JR in the Dallas show) pll loved that SOB. The Tony in Sopranos draws the same groupies! I hope pll have moved on to “some” substance.
Penny is right that Oboma will get creamed against any Republican but he is going to win the primaries. The moderate, or real Dems, can’t let the left take over the party or it will be a trifecta in Nov. I see Oboma has big time SS protection in NH
The UN group Bloom’r & Gore want the center but they will be “Found” and rejected
Penny! I would guess you have connection with NYC. Its just the way you insert the Knife & twist, all in one sentence.
