Produced at less than $1 per watt, the panels will dramatically reduce the cost of generating solar electricity and could power homes and businesses around the globe with clean energy for roughly the same cost as traditionally generated electricity.

Columbia University Cozied up to Hitler and Nazis in the 1930s
Seventy years before this week’s invitation to Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Columbia rolled out the red carpet for a senior official of Adolf Hitler’s regime. The invitation to Iran’s leader may seem less surprising, but no less disturbing, when one recalls that in 1933, Columbia president Nicholas Murray Butler invited Nazi Germany’s ambassador to the United States, Hans Luther, to speak on campus, and also hosted a reception for him. Luther represented “the government of a friendly people,” Butler insisted. He was “entitled to be received . . . with the greatest courtesy and respect.” …-

  7. Kate, I think you should link to or copy Tom Flanagan’s Ten Commandments of Conservative Campaigning and whenever one of our conservative posters gets huffy and indignant about Harper and state they will not vote for him refer them to the site for its required reading.
Excellent anaylsis of how Harper is following the ground rules to properly establish the CPC for the long haul of becoming Canada’s dominant political party. Thanks Andrew, great link.

  8. I found The Third Commandment to be particularly insightful:

    3. Inclusion The traditional Conservative base of anglophone Protestants is too narrow to win modern Canadian elections. While preserving that base, we have to appeal to francophones, Roman Catholics (44 per cent of the population, according to the 2001 census) and other racial and religious minorities. The key to the long-term success of the Liberals has been their cultivation of minority groups. Conservatives have to take away that advantage.

Conservatives will not win a majority government simply by adding seats in Quebec, although that will be part of the formula. They also must add seats elsewhere and that means doing better with ethnic voters. The suburbs of Toronto, Vancouver and, to a lesser extent, other cities are now filling up with new Canadians who, based on their social values and capitalist work ethic, should be natural Conservative voters, but who are still emotionally tied to the Liberal Party.

Conservatives must break the Liberal hegemony over Italian, Chinese, South Asian and other ethnic voters. That doesn’t mean getting all their votes, but it does mean getting a bigger share, in order to win the suburban ridings that a conservative party would ordinarily expect to win.

“”Hundreds of thousands of veterans — from Vietnam through Operation Iraqi Freedom — are at risk of being banned from buying firearms if legislation that is pending in Congress is enacted.
How? The Veterans Disarmament Act — which has already passed the House — would place any veteran who has ever been diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) on the federal gun ban list.
This is exactly what President Bill Clinton did over seven years ago when his administration illegitimately added some 83,000 veterans into the National Criminal Information System (NICS system) — prohibiting them from purchasing firearms, simply because of afflictions like PTSD.””

  11. Kate,
If you haven’t already, take a peek at the online version of the latest issue of Maclean’s. It features a doctored photo of George Bush dressed up as Saddam Hussein. I perused the headlining article by Patrick Graham, and found it to be one of the worst pieces of journalistic garbage I’ve ever read.
The main thesis is that the Bush administration is making a huge mistake by “reaching out” to former allies of Saddam. The intent of the cover photo is demonstrate, graphically, that this strategy makes George Bush morally equivalent to Saddam Hussein. In the course of reading the article, I ran across the following statement:
“This was as great a mistake as disbanding the Iraqi army, which the U.S. did in May 2003, or perhaps even greater, since it led to the sectarian downward spiral that has destroyed the country.”
Amazing. In the same article in which Bush is taken to task for building bridges to former Saddam allies, he is then pilloried for not reaching out to the same allies that once populated the old Iraqi army. This isn’t the only instance in which the author contradicts his own thesis. One gets the impression that he couldn’t care less anyway.
A semblance of logic might get in the way of showing how the Bush administration has never, ever, ever, done anything right in Iraq.
The whole article is nothing but a stream-of-consciousness rant. Blatant editorializing disguised as “objective” journalism that redefines the meaning of shrill.
I had thought that Maclean’s had made significant strides in shedding its old image as a rag that catered to the Canadian left, but the latest issue indicates that they’ve abandoned that tack.
If you subscribe to Maclean’s, I’d consider cancelling. If you don’t subscribe, don’t bother.

Churchill-FDR set up the UN hoping that worldwide tyranny would never again imperil humans.
Sadly, the UN has been subverted/stolen by the left-liberals/socialists/Muslim fascists and their fellow-travellers.
Today, the UN is leading the march on the shining path to a world government/tyranny. Mao Stlong’s dreams are becoming reality.
Will you join the parade to Gaia’s camps? Are you a sheep? Will you gather obediently on the ramp awaiting placidly for your extermination? Moonbat says dissent is dead; that means coercion/death is next for you if you dissent.
Moonbat is linking you to the unborn; Moonbat ignores the dead.
Moonbat says the UN is leading, is the vanguard of the movement. Will there be a point in time when Moonbat’s minions will no longer be leading? will they will be driving the people/sheep to the Gulag/death camps?
Down with the UN and Moonbat.

Future generations will judge us on climate change: UN chief
UNITED NATIONS (AFP) – UN chief Ban Ki-moon, opening a landmark summit on climate change, warned world leaders Monday they face condemnation by future generations if they fail to tackle greenhouse-gas pollution.
“Climate change, and what we do about it, will define us, our era, and ultimately the global legacy we leave for future generations,” the secretary general said.
He demanded a breakthrough at a key conference taking place in Bali, Indonesia, in December.
“The time for doubt has passed,” said Ban, as he noted the grim 4th assessment on climate change by the United Nations’ top scientific panel this year.
“If we do not act now, the impact of climate change will be devastating,” he added. “We have affordable measures and technologies to begin addressing the problem right now. What we do not have is time.” …-

  15. President Nicolas Sarkozy of France is sure taking a different stand than Chirac/UN/Maurice Strong/Desmarais did in dealing with Saddam. Perhaps it was not “The French” after all, just it’s Elite.

New tactic by terrorists on planes: greasing themselves up with Vasoline
Due to the multiple independent “hits” for traces of SEMTEX, TSA authorities emptied the luggage in a secured area, and were astonished by what they found. Authorities found 3 jars of Vaseline duct taped together to make one large cylinder. An inspection of this Vaseline-filled cylinder determined that someone had previously removed the Vaseline and replaced it back into the containers, something that was proven by air pockets left within the containers. Based on a thorough inspection of all the luggage belonging to these Middle Eastern passengers, authorities also found multiple strands of electrical wire with the ends stripped of the insulation, thus exposing the copper wire, small eyeglass screw drivers, clocks, cocoa butter, 2 tubs of butter, batteries of various sizes and types, a computer laptop, and multiple bottles of hydrogen peroxide – 144 ounces in all.
Even more disconcerting, TSA and security officials observed that two of the Middle Eastern men intended for the flight had smeared Vaseline on their arms and neck areas – a common tactic among hand-to-hand fighters who want the advantage in the event someone tries to grab them or put them in a headlock. Covered by the greasy agent, they are better able to extricate themselves during close-quarters, hand-to-hand fighting.

Presented at last week’s UN climate meeting.
Global Warming Hysteria or Freedom and Prosperity?
One can tell – with a high degree of confidence – what topics are expected to be raised here, this morning when it comes to discussing the key challenges of today’s world. The selection of the moderator and my fellow-panelists only confirms it. I guess it is either international terrorism or poverty in Africa. Talking about both of these topics is necessary because they are real dangers but it is relatively easy to talk about them because it is politically correct. I do see those dangers and do not in any way underestimate them. I do, however, see another major threat which deserves our attention – and I am afraid it does not get sufficient attention because to discuss it is politically incorrect these days.
The threat I have in mind is the irrationality with which the world has accepted the climate change (or global warming) as a real danger to the future of mankind and the irrationality of suggested and partly already implemented measures because they will fatally endanger our freedom and prosperity, the two goals we consider – I do believe – our priorities.
We have to face many prejudices and misunderstandings in this respect. The climate change debate is basically not about science; it is about ideology. It is not about global temperature; it is about the concept of human society. It is not about nature or scientific ecology; it is about environmentalism, about one – recently born – dirigistic and collectivistic ideology, which goes against freedom and free markets.
I spent most of my life in a communist society which makes me particularly sensitive to the dangers, traps and pitfalls connected with it. Several points have to be clarified to make the discussion easier: …-

  28. A tidbit here from the loony left city counsel in Vancouver that is considering banning all smoking of legal tobacco products inside and outside everywhere. If you take a cab from another city and pass through Vancouver it will be illegal to smoke tobacco in that cab even if everyone, including the driver, has no objection. Sadly this new law likely won’t apply to the illegal crack and crystal meth smokers on the streets of Vancouver. Why? My guess is it’s much easier to control and penalize the law abiding folk who tend to have known addresses, jobs with which to pay the fines and…they’re mostly good little sheeples.
