  6. Confirmation that the source of the Ignatieff allegation was legitimate
Only Jason Cherniak, a respected Liberal blogger and a key supporter of Stephane Dion, could deliver the news that the article was based on solid information, and be believed by Liberals, Conservatives, NDP supporters, and everyone else.
Now that the suspicion that the article was fundamentally untrue has been utterly dispelled, we can go back to considering just what a senior Stephane Dion confidante was thinking when he spoke to the press to make such serious accusations against fellow Liberals, and what Stephane Dion is going to do about it. …-

    U. of Arkansas’s Clinton School Returns Hsu Gift
Officials at the University of Arkansas’s Clinton School of Public Service, in Little Rock, have decided to return $75,000 that Norman Hsu, the financier who has come under fire for his questionable business practices, gave the institution last year, The Wall Street Journal reports. Mr. Hsu, a top fund raiser for Senator Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, had pledged a total of $100,000 to the Clinton School after hearing about it last year at the annual Clinton Global Initiative, in New York, which is organized by the William J. Clinton Foundation. Mr. Hsu became a “member” of the initiative after donating…-

European bigotry to Islam a concern.
    Sep 18, 2007 7:54 AM Reuters
United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour said that bigotry and prejudice, especially in regard to Muslims, were common in Europe and called on governments to tackle the issue.
The remarks from the former Canadian Supreme Court judge, which came in the wake of similar charges issued last week by a UN rights investigator, were quickly challenged by a leading global non-religious grouping.
The report by investigator Doudou Diene of Senegal documented what he called an alarming rise in intolerance, and in particular Islamophobia, in European countries, and Arbour said, “I have no reason not to share his concerns.”
Europeans “are shocked at times when it is pointed out that bigotry, prejudice and stereotyping is still sometimes very present in their attitude to others”, she said.
Diene’s work, she declared, highlighted “a challenge for Western countries that needs to be addressed”.
Roy Brown, past president of the International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU) which groups non-religious organisations around the globe said Arbour was “just plain wrong”.
“The little regrettable hostility that does exist among indigenous Europeans has not arisen in a vacuum, but as a reaction to Islamic extremism – demonisation of Jews, infidels and homosexuals and contempt for Western culture,” said Brown, the IHEU’s representative at the UN’s Human Rights Council.
Diene’s report said Islamophobia and equating Islam with terrorism created a climate favouring racial and religious hate.
But it also implicitly criticised Islamic states for their treatment of non-Muslim minorities and for refusing to recognise the right of people born into Islam to change their religion.
Diene pointed to the recent appearance of a cartoon in a provincial Swedish newspaper that governments of Islamic countries say offended their religion as an example of abuse of the right of free speech to sow suspicion of Muslims.
He also hit out at Switzerland over perceived anti-immigrant campaigning by the right-wing Swiss People’s Party (SVP/UDC).

  11. “Permafrost areas hold 500 billion tonnes of carbon, which can fast turn into greenhouse gases”
“What’s so insane about that?” — Well, Raphael, maybe I’m missing something here, but my first question would be how did all this organic matter get into the permafrost to begin with? It seems to me that it must have been a much warmer region many years ago — lending credence to the theory that humans and CO2 are not primarily responsible for whatever global warming is happening. Seems rather foolish to panic about ice melting if it appears that the melting is part of a normal cycle.

  12. Robert’s brain hiccups : “Drug Kingpin Mark Emery is supporting Ron Paul”
If Mark emery is a “Drug Kingpin” by that reasoning the Burmese Heroin cartels who supply the nation’s corporate drug cartels are harmless hippie communes.
Did you have an attack of leftard equivelence dyslexia?…selling pot seeds to retarded hippies is equivilent to feeding human misery with corporate heroine trade?
I suppose if Ron Paul is a “fringe weirdo” then they had a lot of fringe weirdos sign the US declaration and bill of rights…guess they left out the important parts like allowing the state to goon people and incarcerate them for getting stoned.

  14. Outrage of the Day
Officials in Dearborn deliberately withheld information about Hussein Zorkot, arrested with a loaded AK-47 and camouflage paint—because they were afraid of “stirring anti-Muslim sentiments” and “fanning the flames of terrorism.”
    This is bad craziness.
Hussein Zorkot is an open supporter of Hizballah. His web site has jihad music with sounds of explosions, pictures of Hizballah leader Hassan Nasrallah, and an image declaring the “start of my personal jihad,” dated September 8, 2007.
And the government of Dearborn hid this information from the public, at a time when the US was supposed to be on high alert for terrorist incidents, because they don’t trust the people who elected them. And because they’re afraid of stirring up more terrorism.
    Really bad craziness.
On Tuesday, a nation honored those whose lives were lost during the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001. But four days prior to the anniversary of the deadly terrorist attacks, a Wayne State medical student had city officials hoping that the event would not be marred by more bloodshed.
Houssein Zorkot, 26, was arrested Sept. 8 after he was observed wielding an AK-47 semi-automatic assault rifle in Hemlock Park, a popular destination for many Dearborn residents.
Zorkot, who is of Lebanese descent, was arraigned Tuesday in 19th District Court — the same day city officials sent out a press release about an event that had happened four days prior, and one day after the Press & Guide had contacted city officials seeking comment. …-
