Tim Ball knew that GW was due to the Urban Heat Island Effect a long time ago —- CBC would only do ‘stories’ about Suzuki.
But, I am sure John Cross will “explain” it thus;
The air conditioner proximity proves that GW is much worse than we thought.
Therefore it is settled.
Because an air conditioner is a reverse Entropy machine, the negative consequences of GW are amplified.
It may appear that hot air is blowing on the tempometer but in actual fact it is proof of a negative because cold air, negative temperature change, is coming out the other side.
An air-con so close to a tempometer is proof of a thermodynamic device and also of Continuity — not to mention the Carnot Cycle. E=MC2
Also, because the air conditioner has been trying so desparately to counter the harmful effects of GW and yet the Earth continues to warm —- first time in 4 Billion years, ya see, — so it’s settled. Stop mentioning it 🙂

As I stood shivering at my daughter’s soccer game last night, putting on my hoody, all I could think about was those billboards of dr fruit fly holding a friggin light bulb in his hand. If this is glowball warming, I want a friggin refund. I do not know about the rest of the country, but this has been our coldest summer in a very long time. The only hot air we are experiencing is coming out of the mouths of leftard idiots(iberia and his ilk come to mind).

I gotta wonder what this picture has to do with the data collected and used for climate research. I also wonder wether Norcalblogs knows for sure those are the sensors, what data they are collecting (presumably temp recordings), and how relevant those data sets are to the overall work at NOAA, and finally, just who uses that data? They are only a small part of this consensus , and while it is interesting if any of the data, or groups compiling it, is suspect, we really only have a couple of photographs, labelled with image editing software, from an unknown, possibly unbalanced, ‘claimed’ observer.
Lots of questions, of relevance, and credibility, but don’t let that stop you all from sprinting to your preformed conclusions!

In the interests of good science, the air conditioner must be removed, the building demolished, the asphalt excavated, and the people relocated.

The whole USHCR system is questionable as Anthony Watts is demonstrating. The sad part is that the US stations are probably the best in the world, that should give us a great deal of confidence. It would be much easier if there was an orifice we could stick a probe into.
One scientist remarked that the average global temperature means as much to him as the average global telephone number. Rather, we should be loking at climatic changes that cannot be explained by natural causes.
I ran a statistical model, coupled and uncoupled over 2 days and determined that the average north american telephone number is 555-555-5555 plus or minus 10%, (p=0.5). That’s pretty alarming in my books. This number has risen over the past 100 years at an alarming rate and must be caused by the observed increase in CO2. My findings will be part of the next IPNC (Intergovernmental Phone Number Change) committee report in 2012.
Isn’t that odd that this and other flaky temperature monitoring stations manage to cause glaciers to recede worldwide, the Arctic Ocean ice to shrink and tundra villages to sink into ‘thawing permafrost’.
Maybe the Earth is not getting warmer after all, it’s just the freezing point of water that’s changing.
GreenNeck, no, this doesn’t prove that glaciers are not melting, it just proves that what we know about the cause may be in question.
And another thing, I’ve seen snow melt in direct sunlight even though the ambiant air temperature is well below the freezing point. Kilimajaro is a case in point, the sumit is below freezing and has been for decades if not hundreds of years, yet the glaciers are receding, not from heat, but from lack of snow fall.
As for glaciers receding worldwide, you must mean that some glaciers are receding in different parts of the world, just as others are advancing worldwide. I live within sight of a glacier and it hasn’t changed much in the last 18 years that I have watched it, in fact, this year it looks very healthy. I just did a drive through the Canadain Rockies and the glaciers seem to be pretty much as I remember them over the decades. One in particular, the Columbia is retreating, but it has been doing so for over 100 years, the biggest retreat was in the 1970’s when we were in a cooling phase. Go figure.
Let’s see who has their thinking cap on.
The exhaust fan. Is that for a crematorium? High temps? Nope, that’s a multiple inlet single exhaust style vent getting rid of air conditioned cold air from bathrooms on one floor. Not exactly a threat is it?
The air conditioners. Did anyone look at the overhead pictures? The nearest one looks to be about 30 feet away. Not exactly a threat is it?
What is unusual is the placing of a temp sensor on the roof! Normally these are placed about 5 feet off the ground. Not on an asphalt roof which should store some heat. That’s the real crime here.
These stations are supposed to be in nice grassy fields with no trees, buildings, incinerators, air conditioners or parking lots nearby. Too many of them are at airport surrounded by jet exhaust and concrete or at sites like the one shown in the picture. Putting the temp sensor on a roof is bad practice as you note.

For years I maintained MARS (Meteorological Automatic Recording Stations) equipment for Nav Canada / Environment Canada as well as manned sites.
I did this all across the prairies.
The old sites were all in fields and well exposed to the wind because that is one of the key measures to be recorded. How these people came to decide that the top of a building make a good installation for anything that measures temperature is beyond logic.
Seems to be indicative of the rot form the top down in our Government agencies.

John refuses to acknowledge that the satellite data is cobbled together from multiple sources, and that people argue about it. There’s no definitive, gold-plated observation anyone can hang their hat on, just differing opinions of indirect evidence.
He also can’t seem to encompass the idea that proper science can’t be done in an atmosphere of bad faith. This NOAA weather station is certainly evidence of bad faith in data collection. You can’t -accidentally- put a thermometer in the hottest spot available. Do I trust the satellite data, given this kind of thing?
Do I trust Arthur Kellerman’s data on the use of firearms?
Phantom: If I might be so bold, at least I acknowledge the data set I am using. You seem to be mixing up two very different data sets. The satellites that measure the temperature of the earth’s surface are the MSU.
What you seem to be referring to is the ACRIM satellites that observe the sun.

Ron: I don’t know. However I would ask: “are all the other planets warming?”
Each planet has its own climate that is governed by a lot of factors probably the greatest of which is its orbit. For example the orbit of mars has 5 times the eccentricity of earth. We don’t know everything about Earth’s climate and we know orders of magnitude less about other planets.

Ron: Another thought. Once we pass Mars the years start to get really long. We can safely ignore Jupiter climate for a hundred years or so and the year of Saturn is 29 1/2 years. Thus we would expect to see warming for at least 1/2 of that.

Increased storm activity on Jupiter and Saturn could be cause by them being at closest approach to the sun. I don’t know if they are or not (revealing in and of itself, you’d think someone would have mentioned it eh?), but that isn’t the point.
The point is when you ask Algor/Suzuki/name your Greenie about it, they shout at you and call you a “denier”. In that kind of environment, people who want to get funding will be sorely tempted to fiddle with their data. The picture at the top of this page is what that looks like.
Hence my distrust of satellite results of all sorts taken since about 1980. Its going to take really big balls for a guy to report a satellite observation that shoots down global warming. Like I said, there’s a buttload of money at stake here, as in trillions.
As an aside, while we and the Euros twitter about global warming and pollution etc., the Chinese are expanding their economy by 10%+ per year using the dirtiest 1950’s technology you could possibly imagine. In another ten years you’ll probably be able to walk across the Yangtze river on solid garbage and industrial waste. Check out pictures of the poison stink plume blowing off Asia some time.
I’d say that’s a eco problem to make global warming look pretty freakin’ minor. Don’t hear too many complaining about it, oddly.
