The press seems downright excited at the prospect of the first female president. The idea of the first black president has journalists all but giddy. But the first Mormon president? Whoa! That’s a different matter.

we used to call it pigmentally challenged 🙂
i like two or more wifes…prefer more
The issue with Mormons is an issue of general ignorance in the American population. Most Americans have never met a Mormon. Their knowledge of Mormons is indirect (i.e. reading Riders of the Purple Sage by Zane Grey – great western btw) or hearsay. They have never met Mormons or do they really understand their religion. Therefore Mormons seem exotic and spooky. This was once also true of Jews, Muslims, Catholics, etc.
Romney has to stand up and show that he is a leader, has a plan, and is not a spooky guy and will act in America’s interest (just like what Kennedy had to do for Catholics). I think this will happen.
Concerning Rudy, I saw him on Larry King the other night. He was much better than I expected. Romney is not going to beat this guy for the rep nomination.
Ironically Mitt has only had one wife, the other 2 guys , Rudy and McCain have had a couple each. This will be fun.
I still think it ends up being Rudy /Mitt President and VP by acclimation; the Democrats, like our Liberals, do not have serious contenders
Funny how we don’t see the same tut-tutting over Muslims running for office that we do for Mormons.
Frankly I think the Mormons and their sacred underwear are a lot less disturbing than the Muslims with their sacred C4 belts, but that’s just me.
Mitt Romney though, him I’ve got a problem with. He’s about as Conservative as Hitlery Clinton. The guy should be running as a DemocRat.
Having hung out with Mormons and visited Salt Lake City, I have to say I kind of like them, as a group.
Their religion based on, er, well let’s be kind and say “disputable historical antecedants” , but it’s basically a form of protestantism with an odd back-story. And it encourages clean living, work, preparing for the future, family, … basically nice people to have as neighbours. We should all be so lucky.
(And the multiple wives thing was kiboshed by the Mormon LDS church a long time ago, the “mormons” you hear about still practicing this are heretical as far as most Mormons are concerned.)

Senator Orrin Hatch is a Mormon. He’s been a fixture of principled reason and conservative values. I like Romney. He won in Massachusetts, liberal slob Kennedy’s state, so his Mormon roots weren’t an issue. I like Rudy too, but, his present wife comes across as a loose cannon. These are minor issues, I’m sure hoping, when you consider the frivolous, intellectually bankrupted candidates that the Dems serve up.
Better a morman than a muslim, who runs for office in the US and immediately demands to be sworn in with the koran. How many mormons have strapped on suicide vests, but a muslim did walk into a mall in salt lake city and open fires.
As for many of the mormans religious dos and donts, was it mormons that put into place all the no smoking laws, and many others. However, if it was known that mormons started the trend, how far would it have gone.
Americans and canadians have willingly passed many laws that come right out of the Book of Mormon.
This same argument was used years ago about JFK. Funny how the politically correct would never question practices of the terrorist muslims, might offend them, have to give them their own prayer room, prayer mats, korans, never insult their prophet, but have no qualms about insulting anything related to the christian religions and the jewish faith.
Someone commented on the funny underwear, how about the funny outerwear of the muslims terrorists.
And, I am not a mormon.

I’ve got nothing against individual Mormons (I used to be one), but their religion is a bit cracked:

Lots of interesting things to read there.
Good line nomdenent. I’m stealing it!
I Think years of abusing “Colorado Kool-Aid” has finally rotted Merle Haggard’s brain…how could a guy with his history of taking up with ambitious women who turned to catty vindictive shrews in divorce court, advocate saddleing the nation with the ice-water shrew who made Bubba Klinton’s married life a matter of separate beds and extra curricular activity.
Merle…your mind has finally snapped…get out of Northern California before that wacky ‘tbaccy takes the few brain cells you have left.
The Dems haven’t a credible candidate that passed as a real American since Harry Truman. The Dems are devoid of vision and moral direction…all their presidential campaigns come down to a superfical progressivist love in between politically correct minority groups, sexual politics and victim’s lobby poster boys.
Not a shred of integrity or authenticity amoung them and in practice, no difference in their house performance from the GOP.
Dem or GOP both have become so statist and aligned in statist agendas they have become flip sides of the same coin.
Okay, I’ll bite: What about Mormon underwear? I’ve known a lot of Mormons, as neighbours and co-workers but somehow their knickers never got into the conversation.
BTW: all of them (I’ve known) are good, honest, family orientated hard working people. I don’t recall seeing any of them collecting pogie or demanding x, y or z from the government because they were Mormon. Certainly no protest marches or barracades. But that is just my opinion.
Strict Mormons wear special “garments”, basically a t-shirt and shorts arrangement.

Just another example of LDS nuttery which keeps them from being accepted by main stream churches.
My point being though, that it is -harmless- nuttery, and that people can leave the LDS church if they don’t like the underwear.
Leaving can be a problem if you’re a Muslim and you don’t feel like being stoned for adultery or something.
