  1. Weird and wasteful. We should invade North Korea, throw out KJI et al and turn this monstrosity into grain/rice storage for the starved citizens of North Korea.

  2. Let’s see, 2% of the GDP spent on that monstrosity, construction halted 5 years later because of “the prevailing famine”.
It pretty much sums up the insanity of Kim Jong-il and all of the notorious communist despots with their vanity public work’s projects before him.
I could kiss the ground I walk on that I was never so unlucky as to be born in a communist or Islamic country.

  3. 4 Finally, all the elders of Israel met at Ramah to discuss the matter with Samuel. 5 “Look,” they told him, “you are now old, and your sons are not like you. Give us a king to judge us like all the other nations have.”
6 Samuel was displeased with their request and went to the Lord for guidance. 7 “Do everything they say to you,” the Lord replied, “for it is me they are rejecting, not you. They don’t want me to be their king any longer. 8 Ever since I brought them from Egypt they have continually abandoned me and followed other gods. And now they are giving you the same treatment. 9 Do as they ask, but solemnly warn them about the way a king will reign over them.”
    Samuel Warns against a Kingdom
10 So Samuel passed on the Lord’s warning to the people who were asking him for a king. 11 “This is how a king will reign over you,” Samuel said. “The king will draft your sons and assign them to his chariots and his charioteers, making them run before his chariots. 12 Some will be generals and captains in his army,[a] some will be forced to plow in his fields and harvest his crops, and some will make his weapons and chariot equipment. 13 The king will take your daughters from you and force them to cook and bake and make perfumes for him. 14 He will take away the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his own officials. 15 He will take a tenth of your grain and your grape harvest and distribute it among his officers and attendants. 16 He will take your male and female slaves and demand the finest of your cattle[b] and donkeys for his own use. 17 He will demand a tenth of your flocks, and you will be his slaves. 18 When that day comes, you will beg for relief from this king you are demanding, but then the Lord will not help you.”
19 But the people refused to listen to Samuel’s warning. “Even so, we still want a king,” they said. 20 “We want to be like the nations around us. Our king will judge us and lead us into battle.”
I might add as an historical anecdote. This in no way was a theocracy at the time of the writing. It was a loose confederation of 12 tribes who elected leaders for military prowess & a kind of Priest Prophet, that was at times a judge or war leader for the clans.
This is what happens when you worship men. That or a political system. The end results are the same. You become slaves to the humans you count on as your leaders. On the ego’s of men who lust after riches or power. This is a perfect example of how men lose there liberty to tyranny. It also is an insight into God’s view on human politics.
Kim Jong-il is the embodiment of North Korea. As far as I am concerned you sleep in the bed you made. The bed of nails they have built, will kill them all. I hope they remember this when “Dear Leader” is sporting a hangman’s noose.
They have NO excuse. There whole economy is run by people from South Korea giving money to relatives in North Korea. With supplements from Western Nations as Dane geld, to these barbarians. Mostly the Government there confiscates the money sent. The people know this, but put up with it. Insanity.
That they are building this edifice to there glory, while their people die of want of food is typical of the narcissistic predation of these sick minds.
When men & Women take there minds off of what is just & true & put there treasures in the basket of human idolatry. What is happening in North Korea & other Nations threw history is inevitable.

As the world grapples with how to rein in the “axis of evil” state which this week conducted a nuclear test, this spectacular satellite photo unveiled yesterday by US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld shows in stark detail the haves and have-nots of the Korean peninsula.
The regime in the north is so short of electricity that the whole country is switched off at 9 p.m. – apart from the capital of Pyongyang where dictator Kim Jong-il and his cohorts live in relative luxury. But even there, lighting is drastically reduced …-

  5. “I could kiss the ground I walk on that I was never so unlucky as to be born in a communist or Islamic country.”
Funny, some people would like to kiss the ground of communist and Islamic countries (not to mention the ass of their respective disctators/Imams) and spit on the soil and citizens of a free country. Right, B and S?

  6. The fact that this building looks like the pyramids — which were built THOUSANDS of years ago — is clear evidence that this structure was built by aliens. Why they are here, now, at this time, I don’t know. I do know that the leader of N. Korea reminds me of a character in an Austin Powers movie. So it could be a time-warp thing.

  7. Exciting real estate opportunity! Premium Ryugyong condo units for sale with commanding exotic views over the land that time forgot. Especially attractive to potential investors with structural engineering knowledge and minor concrete repair experience. Units have unspoiled potential for unique window development.
This chance is not to be missed! Great access to each floor by no less than four luxurious staircases. Pricing for units above the 20th floor is negotiable. Minor inconveniences are expected for residents choosing to move in early while the Units are fitted with heating, plumbing and sewer services. As an added bonus, the buyer will be given a great selection of deep discount persian carpets to help warm the atmosphere of their private Pyongyang Palace!

  8. Penny I could kiss the ground you walk on too. Thank God for the U.S. of A. For now I will kiss our own ground and thank God for Stephen Harper.

  9. NK is one of those things
    1) Congratulations you now own North Korea and you have liberated 10 million people, please take a bow
    2) I am sad to say you now own North Korea and 10 million people are asking what to do, where to get fed and how they will be housed. ANd they will exercise their new found freedoms if you dont meet their outsized expectations.
Just need to remember that before you invade, which isnt going to happen, one hopes. Someone is going to put a bullet in Kimpossible’s head, likely a Chinese funded agent, and there will be new leadership put in place, likely a Chinese funded agent, to bring about change over the 10 years or so ensuring a Chinese like change from communism to capitalism as well as ensuring NK remains a Chinese sattelite.
Unfortunatley, North Korea will still be used to cause some issues. The West needs to watch where the nuclear and missle scientists go after they are given freedom. Either they be given tastey positions in Western, Japanese or South Korean universities and research institutes or they will need bullets in the brain as well.
Very nasty stuff….but sadly very necessary.

  10. However, it really isnt clear if they set off a bomb….no radiation anywhere, small explosion and now sattelite pictures of the techs playing volley ball within 100 yards of the tunnels…..
Now nobody said they would follow safety protocols, wouldnt shock me if they didnt…but there really hasnt been anything confirming a nuclear explosion, only an explosion.
    Weirder and weirder.

  11. Funny (if it wasn’t so tragic) cartoon from the Australian: theaustralian.news.com.au/photogallery/0,9493,^^26779,00.html.

  12. Ok has the whole thread gone sarcastic or am I being a bit dense?
Is there a military aspect to this building?
Are there rooms in this building or is it a big hangar for something else?
Have I been reading too much Tom Clancy stuff.

  13. Looks like the Dear Leader decided to take up architecture.
After all this is the same Kim who North Korean publications describe as a renaissance man who has flown fighter aircraft, written operas and shot 11 holes-in-one in his first try at golf.
Perhaps Kim designed it in the morning prior to enjoying his record setting 38 under par round of golf.

  14. Actually, sources now attribute the recent siesmic activity in North Korea to a serious bout of gas Kim Jong Il had after one of his dinner parties…

  15. Although it is intriquing and mystifying , the building seems significant to me in only one respect: The people of NK will put up with anything from the DL-KJI: Did anyone see the report from Lisa of National Geographic and her hidden camera visit to NK?
It is scary in this respect: The people have been brainwashed into thinking they wish to die for their Dear Leader if that be a requirement, and according to KJI, it just may.
Starvation and more to the point starvation of the brain leads to weird hallucinations and the entire people of NK are willing to die for ….what? More of the same from their Dear Leader…
I wonder, if they knew the truth … coming out of their extreme isolation…if that were made possible… if it would not result in the same fate for KJI that the leader and his wife of Romania fell to during the European revolution of 1989-1991…??

  16. The little bastard was put in the position by his Daddy and he is kept there by the military and only by the military.
As soon as some bright lights in the NKA get the idea they’d be better off without him he will disappear……..and that will be that.

  18. I’m actually a little confused. What *is* that?
And can anybody else see an incomplete Star of David on the left, or am I just seeing things? (I’m not trying to say anything, I just find the occurrence weird.)

  19. this points out the occassional extreme absurdity of communism; no one speaks of the hotel yet it is the largest structure in the country….
right out of Orwell’s 1984 where cadres of bureaucrats spend years revising the historical record to suit the times.

  20. qwerty, if only the “extreme absurdity” were really “occassional”. This kind of real “social injustice” is absolutely common in regimes championed by the International Socialist Left.

  21. USSR built all their ‘colonies’ (Poland, Estonia, Bulgaria etc) ‘Bithday Cakes’ after the last war: ugly massive structures of concrete to mock the people that were under Soviet control. The USSR also built massive apt complexes to ‘house’ the minions aka Marice Strong – habitates for humanity’. Each soul had six square feet in a ‘cell’ provided by the head haunchos – as long as the pitiful people kept their heads down and their mouths closed; otherwise – the gulag or death – killing a living soul ment nothing to the Soviets – there were never any ‘Arar – type inquiries’ in the USSR. Canada has miles and miles of uninhabitated land but the minions choose to live in ‘cells’ high and far away from the ‘filthy earth’ – we scorn ‘dirty’ vegetables from the earth for the washed packaged versions, we will not buy meat from a rancher because it is not wrapped in celopane and dyed red….how different are ‘we’? Our pioneers would turn their heads in shame if they could see how we have flushed the freedoms they worked for down the socialist toilet. We even agree to pursecuting people who smoke cigarettes because they ‘offend’ the senses of the over sanitized populace of the righteous, socialist driven ‘stupid’. A fine line is all that separates the ‘luckey’ from ‘them’. How is it that the ‘lucky’ are fine with marginalizing free markets and cigarette smokers but not fine with stuctures that say exactly the same thing; that is; ‘you are small, we are big: we control you and your ilk’?

  23. Ok… not sure when the data in the pictures was last refreshed, but here’s a headshake for you…
Try counting the number of cars within 1 mile (or km, or whatever) — there are major roads leading off in every direction. There’s a domed structure off to the N.E that could easily be a Sam’s club or Wal*Mart; a fair sized sports stadium by a traffic circle further off; and then an even bigger stadium in the same direction. I counted 87 cars in total (all of which are parked in a block within about 200 feet of each other). Other than that there are NO cars on the roads. The roads are simply empty.
I assume this has been done so that KJI’s morning commute is an easy one…
