You’re all wearing your Irony Pants, eh? Good. Here we go:
“Gary Trudeau, creator of the ‘Doonesbury’ comic strip, says cartoonists should draw the line when it comes to offending people.”
Guess which people, though? Starts with an “M”…

Budd, really, how old are you? I was thinking 21 or 22, but now I’m leaning more toward 18 or 19.
Lew, is being “moral, intelligent and Conservative” denied to Christians?
Absolutely not. The only reason I brought up the point is because I am constantly being accused of being a ‘leftist’ on this site, because I am non-religious. I have also been called immoral for the same reason.
Crazy talk like that tends to rile me up because it is completely irrational. I have been a Conservative for all 40+ years of my life, I value my ethics and morals more than anything in my life and I take pride in respecting other people’s opinions.
Of course people are allowed to disagree and to be offended, and to stand up for what they believe in. The non-religious people in our society merely want the same respect.
Right on, BATB.
Lew,
I am in the same “non-religious” category as you … as are a lot of other posters. I have never been offended by the Christian posters – they share, with you and me, many of our ethics and morals. To deny that, at it’s base, our believes are not based in Judeo-Christianity is nonsense … we were not raised, by our parents, from nothingness.
“However, the oddities on the left like Lew and Budd constantly prove they don’t possess a brain at all – and often admit it – like david brown did several posts ago.”
I suppose I should take this as a complement then?
I grew up in a Catholic family and am proud to say that I learned a lot of my values from the experience. But most intolerance I witness in today’s world is practised by the ‘religious right’. I did not learn the value of intolerance in my Catholic upbringing.
Lew, you say, “…most intolerance I witness in today’s world is practised by the ‘religious right’.”
What ‘religious right’ would you be talking about: the Islamofascists who fly planes into buildings, killing thousands, who attack embassies and pillage, murder, and set fire to buildings because of a few cartoons, and who riot in the streets because they’ve been “offended,” or are you talking about Christians who do not fly planes into buildings killing thousands, and who volunteer for and support charities to feed the hungry, house the homeless, care for the unloved, etc.
Let’s get our priorities straight, please.
I’d appreciate your enumerating the “intolerance…practised by the ‘religious right’.”
The religious right’s intolerance of what, Lew? Abortion? I’m not particularly religious and find it deeply offensive. Intolerance of Jews? The Christian Right in American has consistently been Israel biggest supporter. They fund pro-Israel ads on tv regularly. Intolerant of gays? Maybe the marriage issue as a place where the state has no business defining it, otherwise, and I agree, most conservative Christians I’ve met could care less.
Lefties love throwing around that hackneyed “religious intolerance” meme which all falls apart when you examine the facts.
The most intolerant religion in history has been and is Islam by it’s own dogmas – jihad, dhimmitude, sharia, fatwas….and you’re focused on conservative Christians as the problem? Name one aspect in your life where the Christian Right has infringed on your freedom or quality of life? A trip to the an airport anywhere on the globe ought to be pretty empirical evidence as to whose religious intolerance is dangerous to all of us. Worldwide no one is screening for Christian zealots.
I just don’t get thinking like yours. It’s so illogical.
Hey, Lew. I’m waiting.
I asked you a question, and I’d sure appreciate it if you’d have the courtesy to answer it. If you can’t answer my question and that’s why you’re not posting, just tell the truth.
I’ll be lenient. I promise I won’t drive my car into the side of your house.
penny, the Supreme Court of Canada, misusing our Charter of so-called “Rights and Freedoms” causes much more intolerance than the “Christian right”, any day.
Is Lew aware of the huge restrictions on the rights of religious Canadians (including Roman Catholics)–well, if they’re not part of a certain religion? The “religious right” is a bogeyman: using it as a stick to make a point is, I believe, bigotry.
So what is this idiot GARY TRUDEADU blabbering about he was the one who created that nasty attack on REAGAN with his putrid DOONSBURY strip this guy has a conveintly short memory
