Shreddin’ Annie

But of course it’s legal for an outgoing Liberal MP to shred documents.
Just who do you think was writing the laws this past decade or so?

Files sent to outgoing Liberal MP Anne McLellan are expected to be destroyed under the Privacy Act rather than being transferred into the hands of her replacement, Tory Laurie Hawn.
Hawn’s spokesman, Victor Marciano, said McLellan sent them notice saying that any constituent files in her possession as she moves out of office will be shredded.
He added it is entirely within her legal right to do so.
“Hopefully, people will have kept enough copies of their own stuff for us to move ahead with their file, otherwise we’ll have to start all over again.”
A spokesman for McLellan couldn’t be reached for comment.
The files include those for Edmonton Centre constituents with immigration, taxation or health-care concerns who have approached their MP for help.
“Politics is politics, but people who need help shouldn’t be held captive by it,” said Marciano.
McLellan could not be reached for comment yesterday.
Lesley Miller, whose husband Dougald was savagely beaten and left an invalid by career criminal Leo Teskey in 2000, said she is thrilled there is a new MP in place to lobby for the rights of constituents.
“Anne McLellan said she couldn’t help me, so now I can start lobbying the new federal government for proper compensation for what happened to Dougald.”
Hawn is asking constituents who had an open request for assistance with McLellan’s office to contact him immediately.

  1. Can you imagine the waste of time and tax payer money that Shreddin’ Annie is causing? All of the work that is residing in her files on various local issues is being destroyed.
Since when did those files, paid for by tax payer money become her’s to shred?

  2. This is just Anne showing her true self, she is so concerned about the people in Edmonton centre that she is willing to shred their files, forcing them back to square one, which in turn will make them suffer longer with any problems they may have. Well, I guess it’s about the same as if Annie would have won her riding, there are a lot of people coming forward now that are saying Anne never did **ck all for them when anyway. Like D.L says, were just glad she’s gone.

  3. KPMG. Remember them? They went bust when indicted for shredding documents related to the Enron scandal. Like I mentioned before, there is enough dirt out there on the Liberals that they will make Grant Devine’s Conservatives look like saints. The Conservatives had to re-label themselves as the Saskatchewan Party. Think this is why no one wants to run for the Liberal nomination? Bye, bye Liberals. What will the new name be? NDP?

  4. I’m rapidly beginning to wonder if Liberals are evil? Now read both links below and tell me what you think.
I have absolutely no idea if there’s anything to this ProudToBeCanadian.ca post that if you GOOGLE Lawrence Metherel, it [allegedly] demonstrates that Bill Graham, interim Liberal Party Opposition Leader (whom I respected about 40-minutes ago) had a 15-year old male child prostitute on a monthly retainer.
All I can say is I sincerely hope not. I’m sitting here shocked. Someone please tell me this isn’t true. I like(d) Bill Graham.
These aren’t actually our enemies… are they?
Please, someone, prove to me this isn’t true.
As a final thought, and again, I don’t know if those old allegations against Mr. Graham are true and I would way way prefer that they aren’t… my understanding is that while the age of consent in Canada is 14, it is against the law to pay for sexual activity or offer any kind of inducement such as lodging to a person 14 years or older, but under 18 years old. Has this changed?
I’m reading the Criminal Code of Canada and I can’t find it anywhere.
FinalER thought… if it has changed, can it be changed back now that the CPC is in power?

  5. Garth Turner was also affected by his defeated Liberal incumbant, Mr Carr, locking his office and shredding all his files, which included those of the citizens who were asking for assistance. The only thing passed on would be the furniture, equipment, that he was registered as having.. I think the Tories could add a ban on destroying documents, [not including the political party documents] as an illegal, unlawful act. As you pointed out, the people that are hurt, are innocent residents that placed their trust in their representative to help them.

  6. Re: Bill Graham, Interim Liberal Party Opposition Leader
Thanks to a research tip from fellow commentator, “Mac”, it appears that [at least since receiving Assent on April 25th, 1997] it is illegal to obtain the sexual services, for consideration, of any person under the age of 18.
See Criminal Code of Canada, Part VII, Section 212(4): Every person who, in any place, obtains for consideration, or communicates with anyone for the purpose of obtaining for consideration, the sexual services of a person who is under the age of eighteen years is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years and to a minimum punishment of imprisonment for a term of six months.
Well, that’s good news. The problem would appear to be that this may not have been a Criminal offence when Bill Graham was alleged to have engaged in it.

  7. We Canadians are a bunch of saps when it comes to protecting our interests from the Libranos.
Watching an interview with an in-coming CPC MP on CPAC, it was obvious that there were dozens of cardboard file boxes stacked by various doors ready to go.
They were doing a walk about during the interview. There was some kidding about the boxes the jist of which was, *yes these are the out-going MP*s stuff.*
Where are the RCMP? Considering the Liberal record of 200 plus scams, why are these boxes not being checked. How does an MP get to take home six cartons of stuff, much less a dozen?
I recall a news story about Guite or somebody
in the Martinite gang found to have many boxes of files in the basement at home.
If I had any police authority in Ottawa there would be search warrants for government file boxes issued for every Liberal MP*s home in the country, just to clear all the innocent MPs and make everyone feel better.
Liberal motto: *Just like taking candy from a baby… eh*.TG

  8. Now back to Annie and Liberals shredding files of constituents who turned to them for help… rather than turn those files over to incoming Members of Parliament so they can help their former constituents:
    Bastards

  9. I thought that the Liberals had destroyed all the shredders in Ottawa for fear that Stephen Harper would use them to shred the Charter of Rights & Freedoms.

  10. What a vindictive little bitch! Yet another example of Liberal values? Stomp on your constituents to spite the incoming MP? Or simply stomp on your constituents for having the gall to vote you out of office? What a rotten, stinking cabal the Liberals have become. Hopefully this past election will have drained some of the puss from this festering haemorrhoid of a party.

  11. Don’t forget when Graham is reported to have bought and paid for this young boy the age of consent was NOT 14–it was 18 for boys, wasn’t it?

  12. mcdonald “KPMG. Remember them? They went bust when indicted for shredding documents related to the Enron scandal”
They’re an international company and still very much in business. http://www.kpmg.com

  13. Kate,
We would all be appreciative if you could spend the time to see if this story about Graham is true.
Even if he didn’t break the law “at the time of the events” he stands to lose all credibility.
    Are the Libs that dumb?

  14. I can’t remember from going to the Google page link from Proud Canadian yesterday if this report was one of the links, but here’s one that I read years ago:
“Bill Graham: Canadas Latest Shame” by Jamie Glazov; FrontPage Magazine; February 14, 2002
Funny how the MSM didn’t mind covering this up, but got all hot under the collar for gay rights and attacked the conservatives (Canadian Alliance, I think) when during Question Period a conservative MP told Graham to ‘tell it to [his] wife’ or similar.

  15. I am sure this is happening in constiuenies (sp?) all over the country which says to me that all the retoric about how much they had done for their voters and how much they had helped people was simply that – words.
This proves it has always been about the power! It will take a magnifying glass and one of those giant earth movers from Fort Mac to get to the bottom of the “possible????”(I am trying to not be slanderous) corruption that has happened over the past 12 years.

  16. For the record, I have absolutely no clue if the Bill Graham story is true.
I absolutely hope not, since I’ve always respected him. My take on him as a Minister was that he made several initial ludicrous statements when he took over Foreigh Affairs, but then seemed to hit the books hard and at least tried to master it.
He appeared to improve with time and clearly gave Defence his best shot.
Now I have doubts and would like to have them cleared up.

  17. Chris from Victoria: You asked about Canadian Laws about the age of consent. This is how it works:
Under 14: Can’t have sex with anyone who is more than 2 years older or younger.
Between 14 and 18: Can’t have sex with anyone who is in a position of power or authority. ie: (teacher, police, elected official, clergy, etc etc.) Anyone normally placed in charge of people, or you own boss is considered in power or authority. (This would include Bill Graham)
18 and older: Open Season. Prostitution is legal, but you can’t “communicate” for the purpose of prostitution.
Sex by definition is: (undressing, fondling, kissing, intercourse,)

  18. is anyone really surprised about the shredding? i gauranty that recycling boxes on capital hill are over flowing with incriminating evidence

  19. this Bill Graham story is highly disturbing, i suspect that we’ll never really know the truth, if it was [possible to prove his guilt i would hope that he would already be in jail. maybe this explains the liberal resistance to raising the age of consent.

  20. Well, well, well. Why is one not surprised to hear that Anne McLellan is shredding evidence of Liberal (wrong-)doings in her riding over the past few years?
On the bright side, it should become pretty clear to her constituents that neither she nor the Liberal Party were very interested in forwarding their claims or causes.
Sometimes the exposure of dastardly doings, while damaging at first (and this makes Laurie Hawn’s job that much more onerous), end up by completely turning things around for the better. Mr. Hawn doesn’t have to say how disorganized and unattended-to things are in this riding after years of Awful Annie, because her present actions make the point for him.

  21. After reading things like this about landfill Annie I can hardly wait for Parliament to start and to see QP–what questions will the Liberals come up with? How will the CPC be able to answer anything other than that the previous administration shredded everything so perhaps the Government should be asking questions of the Opposition? Should be very interesting

  22. You know, with the Liberal government activities of the past 12 years – the scandals, the arrogance, the obvious play of the Canadian people for power, and now the shredding – I’m starting to wonder if we’ve become a third-world country politically and haven’t realized it.
Considering how far we’ve fallen in the world rankings for standard of living, plus the lack of presence on the world stage, one may have an argument for bringing foreign observers to watch over our democracy.
We may be economically and socially civil, but in the Liberal political realm, “We’ve gone savage.”

  23. Sore Loser?

Anne McLellan has shown her true colors by shredding all her constituancy documents instead of passing them on to her replacement Laurie Hawn. Anyone who had anything “in the works” with the government will now have to start over at step one to see a…

  24. Canadians will have to take the blame themselves because the voters of Canada (and those too lazy to vote) who voted Liberano/Dipper voted FOR these crooks because they (voters) were PART of the greedy, seedy, Liberano culture. I don’t think the Liberanos are OUT, they still own the ‘sival cervise’, and those boys and girls will not co-operate with the new guys who won’t excuse them AND THEIR ‘TAKEN FOR GRANTED’ CORRUPT WAYS. We will be ‘treated’ to the spectical of underground maggots trying to ‘drain’ the host (Conservative government) when Ottawa re-opens. The greasy ‘paule’ will be waiting in the wings to land on top of the stinking offal heap that the sival cervise will create.
This country should have a new batch of civil servants ASAP if we are ever to hope for ANYTHING good to happen here.

    Exhibit #
Dingwall: … $417,780, as well as associated pension benefits.
Arbitrator George Adams has ruled Dingwall’s departure as head of the mint was involuntary and the government has a legal obligation to pay him. The government says it has respected the decision. >>> via cnews

  26. “How will the CPC be able to answer anything other than that the previous administration shredded everything so perhaps the Government should be asking questions of the Opposition? Should be very interesting”
    I can see it now:
Question Period, two months from now —
Member of the Opposition: And will the honorable Minister please tell me why these files have not been acted upon?
Member of the Government: Perhaps the honorable Member for the Opposition would like to ask his colleague who is currently Opposition critic of my Ministry, and was Minister immediately preceding me. Because we haven’t been able to find the files within the Ministry, and she won’t talk to us about it. [Muted laughter, shouts of “hear, hear” from Government benches.] In fact, maybe you should just talk to her, and then why don’t you let me know what you find out? [Minister sits down, loud laughter from Government benches, muted “boo”s from Opposition benches.]

  27. just so glad that the fine people of Edmonton skidded her before we got the full brunt of the Lib musical
    “Annie Took yer Gun”

  28. Is it any surprise that the people who have been using the Canadian tax payers earnings as a personal piggy bank would choose to selfishly and spitefully remove the records of their efforts?
Shows you exactly who and what these people are and where their priorities lie!
You know it is possible to stop this by going to a judge for an injunction.

  29. Now you guys are all assuming that there would be something in those boxes. I think it is quite possible that due to the fact that the liberals succeeded in doing absolutely nothing for the last 13 years, that there is nothing to shred or take home at all. Unless of course there are little brown envelopes full of cash?
